Windellama WebsiteStats In March we had a total of 1618 hits. So far in April up to the 22nd we had 1067 hits. Various search words were used, with Windellama being the primary word.

With an average of over 1500 visitors to the Windellama community website each month, we are now certainly on the world map. Also saving quite a lot of paper and ink with people reading on-line and also in colour.

Four new community representatives were welcomed to the last monthly meeting of the Goulburn Health Service Advisory Committee on 27 March and congratulated on their two-year appointments.

The new representatives are Rhoda Poulton, Isobel Heaton, Susan Hannan and John Wiggan, who now join continuing representa-tives Marie Heath, Julien Vanslambrouk and Ian Cameron, who were recently reappointed for two years.

Kerry Hort, Anne Collins, Judith Hallam, Lyn Lace and Dr Gabriel Kolos are continuing members and represent various elements of the local health service. Cr Maureen Eddy will continue as the Goulburn Mulwaree Council representative.

The positions of Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson were vacated during the meeting and the election process for 2008 then proceeded. Marie Heath was elected unopposed to the Chair and Julien Vanslam-brouk as Deputy Chair. A new position of Media Liaison Officer was filled by Ian Cameron who was elected unopposed.

Redevelopment work have now commenced at the Giles Court Confused and Disturbed Elderly Unit (CADE).

A number of staffing vacancies are being actively advertised, particularly in the areas of occupational therapy, physiotherapy, health information management and a physician for the Emergency Department, along with vacancies in general nursing.

It has been necessary to re-advertise the Social Worker and Sexual Assault Worker positions for the Community Health Centre and filling of a number of other vacant positions including a Cancer Care Coordinator and a Drug and Alcohol Worker is being actively pursued.

On a brighter note, replacement dentist Dr Joel Soriano commenced two weeks ago and we hope to recruit a Dental Officer to support Dr Soriano in the near future.

Nurse Monique Gorham has recently joined the Gunning team, and we look forward to welcoming Nurse Melissa Rawle to our local team in April. Our new Podiatrist, Justine Kenny, commenced last month and will service Goulburn, Marulan and Crookwell clinics in her rounds.

During July 2008, 2,500 young pilgrims representing the International Youth Forum will be domiciled in and around Goulburn. The Area Health Service has recently developed strategies to cope with any medical emergen-cies and ongoing patient care requirements that might arise during the stayover. A number of local health professionals and other allied organisations were consulted during the planning process.

Goulburn’s Local Health Service Advisory Committee next meets on Thursday 1 May in the Tartan Room at Goulburn Base Hospital.

WINDELLAMA HISTORICAL SOCIETY Inc.

Recently the St Bartholomew’s cemetery was classified by the National Trust of NSW as part of our local heritage. The trust defined that the cemetery fell into the following classification, ‘Those places which are components of the natural or the cultural environment of Australia, that have aesthetic, historical, architectural, archaeological scientific or social significance for future generations, as well as for the present community.’

Over the last few years I have carried out a good deal of research into the burials at the cemetery. So far I have listed about 240 burials in the cemetery while only about 130 have headstones.

From the time Windellama was settled about the 1830s there would have been a need for a cemetery. There are probably a number of graves on private property. In 1954 Matilda Mary Cartwright, daughter of Thomas and Susan Cartwright died and was buried on the Cartwright property. Her burial started the present cemetery. Her parent soon joined her, Susan died in 1858 and Thomas died in 1859.

The foundation stone for the church was laid on 27th October 1859. Richard Cornelius Cartwright (brother of Thomas) was the instigator of establishing a church at Windellama but only two months after the foundation stone was laid, he died and was buried in the Cartwright plot.

In February 1998, the history of the church was published in the ‘Windellama News’, but some interesting facts can be written about the cemetery and the people buried there.

The oldest person buried there is Henry Bryant, aged 100. He was born 14th March 1873 at Lake Bathurst and died 29th April 1973 at Canberra. Henry (Harry) married Caressa (Chris) Halloran, my mother’s half-sister. My mother and Chris both married Bryant men who were no relation to each other.

James Godber, the second oldest person

buried in the cemetery died in 1888, aged 98. He has the earliest birth year, 1790, of anyone in the cemetery.

The most common name in the cemetery is Croker with36 burials, followed by McGaw with 21, Hockey with 16 and Muffet with 11. There are possibly 6 convicts in the church yard. • Amos Crisp, died 1881, aged 90. Arrived

• Jane Swainton (nee Butler) died 1878, aged 65. Arrived 1833.

As well as the headstones there are memorials in the church and on the war memorial for people not necessarily buried in the cemetery.

MOTHER After 21 years of marriage, my wife wanted me t o t a k e a n o t h e r w o m a n o u t to dinner and a movie. She said, "I love you, but I know this other woman loves you and would love to spend some time with you."

The other woman that my wife wanted me to visit was my MOTHER, who has been a widow for 19 years, but the demands of my work and my three children had made it possible to visit her only occasionally.

That night I called to invite her to go out for dinner and a movie. "What's wrong, are you well," she asked? My mother is the type of woman who suspects that a late night call or a surprise invitation is a sign of bad news. "I thought that it would be pleasant to spend some time with you," I responded’, "Just the two of us." She thought about it for a moment, and then said, "I would like that very much."

That Friday after work, as I drove over to pick her up I was a bit nervous. When I arrived at her house, I noticed that she, too, seemed to b e n e r v o u s a b o u t o u r d a t e . She waited in the door with her coat on. She had curled her hair and was wearing the dress that she had worn to celebrate her last wedding anniversary.

She smiled from a face that was as radiant as an angel's. "I told my friends that I was going to go out with my son, and they were impressed," she said, as she got into the car. "They can't wait to hear about our meeting."

We went to a restaurant that, although not elegant, was very nice and cozy. My mother took my arm as if she were the First Lady.

After we sat down, I had to read the menu. Her eyes could only read large print. Half way through the entries, I lifted my eyes and saw Mom sitting there staring at me. A nostalgic smile was on her lips. "It was I who used to have to read the menu when you were small," she said.

"Then it's time that you relax and let me return the favor," I responded.

During the dinner, we had an agreeable conversation, nothing extraordinary but catching up on recent events of each other's

life. We talked so much that we missed the movie. As we arrived at her house later, she said, "I'll go out with you again, but only if you let me invite you." I agreed.

"How was your dinner date?" asked my wife when I got home. "Very nice. Much more so than I could have imagined," I answered.

A few days later, my mother died of a massive heart attack. It happened so suddenly that I didn't have a chance to do anything for her.

Some time later, I received an envelope with a copy of a restaurant receipt from the same place mother and I had dined. An attached note said: "I paid this bill in advance. I wasn't sure that I could be there; but nevertheless, I paid for two plates - one for you and the other for your wife. You will never know what that night meant for me. I love you, son."

At that moment, I understood the importance of saying in time: "I LOVE YOU" and to give our loved ones the time that they deserve. Nothing in life is more important than your family. Give them the time they deserve, because these things cannot be put off till "some other time".
