Issue 5 Term 2 Monday 29 June 2020
PrinciPal’s rePort
Dear parents/carers,
Term 2 2020 has been a very different school term compared to previous years. I want to congratulate
the students and the community at Goulburn West for how they adapted to the changes of learning
from home and face to face learning. I also would like to acknowledge how the community has worked
with the school and stayed off the school site to assist with the safe health practices.
The staff have been tremendous in their efforts to plan and teach remotely and face to face. They have
had the children’s wellbeing at the forefront and this has not waivered as they returned to full face to
face learning.
I want to remind our community that next term you will receive a modified school report for
Semester 1. We are also working on having parent/teacher interviews via a remote method, I will
keep you informed on this once we have worked out the logistics.
With the uncertainty of what is still to come with restrictions, unfortunately we have made the tough
decision to cancel all overnight camps. We are thinking of ways of how we can still provide great
learning experiences for all children in line with the NSW health guidelines in Term 3 and 4.
For me personally, I have enjoyed my first 8 weeks here and I can see what a great school we have. I
have been able to visit classrooms, talk in stage assemblies, meet community members at the gate or
via the phone and have discussions with all staff members.
The executive team are already looking towards the future as we start to plan and create a new 4 year
School Improvement Program. Over the next 2 terms I will share information and ask for community
feedback in regards to this document. It is an exciting time for Goulburn West as we prepare to make
short and long term goals for our students and school.

or further information.
Sick Students should stay home – winter coughs and colds are here
Thank you for keeping students at home who are showing symptoms of cold or flu. If they are
coughing or sneezing, they should not be at school and will be sent home as per our Infection Control
procedures. Please continue to send COVID test results to the child’s class teacher if you have your
child tested. As we recommence some of our extra-curricular activities it is vital that only students who
are healthy and well are at school participating in classes. Regular handwashing and sanitising is still
important and coughing and sneezing into an elbow helps prevent the spread of illness.
I appreciate your cooperation.
Head lice
We have had a case of head lice at school in Stage 3, please check your child’s hair for nits/lice tonight using the methods recommended in information from NSW Health (http://www.health.nsw.gov.au/environment/headlice/Pages/treatment.aspx) a copy of which is attached. If you find any eggs or lice please commence treatment as recommended.
Further information on head lice is available on the NSW Health website (details above) or through the Department’s website at http://www.schools.nsw.edu.au/studentsupport/studenthealth/conditions/headlice/index.php.

Grants
Goulburn West has received a couple of grants recently. One is for a new bus shelter to be installed
and the other in partnership with our OOSH provider is a sensory garden to be landscaped. These 2
areas will be of benefit to our students for years to come.
I wish everyone a safe and happy break, I hope that you are all able to enjoy your family time during
these holidays.

Due to some very generous donations from , and some of our
