For Love of Lakes – September 17Minnesotans have a love for our many lakes. Come learn more about our treasured lakes from Darby Nelson, a native Minnesotan, freelance writer and conservationist. For Love of Lakes weaves a delightful tapestry of histo-ry, science, emotion, and poetry for all who love lakes or enjoy nature writ-ing. It’s an affectionate account docu-menting our species long relationship with lakes – their glacial origins, Tho-reau and his environmental message, and the major perceptual shifts and advances in our understanding of lake ecology. Learn more about the stew-ardship void and gain an improved understanding of our most treasured natural feature. Books will be for sale with all royalties being donated to Conservation Minnesota. Register by September 12.

Yorkville Twins – October 15Crystal residents and retired Robbins-dale teachers Joe and John Gindele will talk about their childhood memories and immigrant experiences growing up on the rough streets of Yorkville on Manhattan’s ethnic Upper East Side, over 60 years ago, in Post-WWII America. They will also read excerpts from their award-winning book, York-ville Twins. Full of humor, wisdom and frank talk, it is an endearing collection of stories involving immigrants, sur-vival, growing up, coming of age, and learning what it is to be an American. More than a memoir, it’s an experi-ence, a love story of family, friends, neighbors, and the Yorkville of yore! Their book, Yorkville Twins will be available for purchase. Register by October 10.

Bald Eagle Basics – November 19With nests as big as small bedrooms and acrobatic aerial courtships the national bird of the United States is impressive beyond their white heads and large size. With a boun-ty of amazing photos and personal accounts, you’ll see bald eagles with new eyes. Register by November 14.

This summer, staff has been meet-ing with neighbors in the Little Acre Park neighborhood to gather input for some park improvements including a new playground design. This proposed plan has a variety of components that will include a new swing set (with a chair swing, a baby swing, and three traditional swings), an Omni Spin (merry-go-round), a double slide, a Clatter Bridge, a Spiral Tunnel Climber and a Watermill Climber (climbing nets). Over-all, this

new playground will promote mo-tion and exercise for kids. The pro-posed plan will be brought to the City Council on August 11 for final approval. Construction should begin in early September with completion later this fall. Funding for this project is from the Park Infrastructure Fund and Water Fund.
