Dear Friends—
Most everyone has gone through times in our lives when we feel we’ve lost our way. Part of New Harbinger’s mission is to publish books for people who want to get their lives back on track. To that end, we’ve published hundreds of books that offer compassionate, immediate help to people struggling with a variety of life problems. The New Monogamy is one of those, designed particularly for readers who find themselves in the difficult position of being in a relationship with a part-ner who has been unfaithful. This book shows how a relationship can be rebuilt by creating a new “monogamy contract” that explicitly outlines the new monogamy agreement between the couple.
For those who are not struggling with a major crisis, but nevertheless feel that their lives could use a lift from the worries and troubles of daily life, I recommend The Joy Compass. This little book teaches eight unique mindfulness strategies that are essential for redirecting the brain away from stress and toward the joy that is in the present moment.
Finally, we’re proud to introduce Bipolar: A Guide for the Newly Diagnosed, the fourth book in our successful series and, I think, a much-needed one. One kind of life-changing moment that many people experience is being on the receiv-ing end of a mental health disorder diagnosis. I have seen many of my therapy clients come to terms with new diagnoses in adulthood. The experience can be immensely healing or devastating—but in any case, it helps to have a guide. Our Guides for the Newly Diagnosed series offers answers to the many questions that come to mind to a newly diagnosed person.
Every one of our books is designed to help make our readers’ lives better, whether they need professional advice or just a daily dose of perspective. Thank you, as always, for supporting New Harbinger’s life-changing books and helping us to put these resources into the hands of people who need them.

Anxious in LoveHow to Manage Your Anxiety, Reduce Conflict, and Reconnect with Your PartnerCarolyn Daitch, PhD, and Lissah Lorberbaum, MA
■ This is the first relationship book specifically for
people with anxiety disorders.
■ 75 percent of general anxiety disorder sufferers feel
that their disorder affects their romantic relationship.
■ Anxiety disorders are the most common mental
health disorders in the United States.
Anxiety doesn’t only affect the person who has it, but everyone who interacts with him or her—and in a relationship, its effects can be even more damaging and profound. No matter how supportive the partner, anxiety disorders can wreak havoc on a relationship, increasing conflicts, misunderstanding, and tension. Anxious in Love is a relationship guide for partners who have an anxiety disorder that offers readers proven skills for calming their anxieties and communicating with their partners.
First, readers learn to self-soothe when their anxiety is triggered so that they can calm and center themselves when faced with their worries and fears. Second, readers learn to understand their anxiety from their partner’s perspective and develop new skills for handling anxiety-related conflicts that may arise. This section will be especially helpful for readers whose anxiety is triggered by disagreements in the relationship. Lastly, readers practice self-sufficiency and work on not relying on their partners to ease their worries or calm their anxieties. This can create an unfair burden on the partner that can lead to tension and conflict. This section emphasizes that it is the reader’s responsibility to take care of himself or herself in order to maintain a healthy relationship. The strategies in this book can help reduce conflict in any relationship that is affected by anxiety and increase communication and understanding between partners.
Carolyn Daitch, PhD, is a licensed psychologist and director of the
Center for the Treatment of Anxiety Disorders in Farmington Hills, MI.
Lissah Lorberbaum, MA, is a psychotherapist living and practicing in the Los Angeles
area.

The Two Truths about LoveThe Art and Wisdom of Extraordinary RelationshipsJason B. Fischer, MA, LPC, with Sabrina Kindell, LPC-S,
LMFT-S
■ This book explores the two agreements that can
transform average relationships into extraordinary
relationships—even if only one partner agrees to
follow them.
■ Jason Fischer is a licensed psychotherapist and former
ordained Buddhist monk.
■ Similar relationship books by New Harbinger, Couple
Skills and Emotional Fitness for Couples, have sold a
combined total of more than 200,000 copies.
Some relationships last, others fall apart, and still others seem to thrive and grow as the years go on. The Two Truths About Love is a guide to creating this third type of relationship—an extraordinary partnership wherein each partner feels fully accepted and loved as they are. Designed over the course of thousands of hours conducting face-to-face counseling sessions with clients, psychotherapist and former Buddhist monk Jason B. Fischer’s unique approach has already improved the lives of countless individuals and couples.
The two secrets to creating extraordinary relationships are simple: partners must 1. Give permission for the other person to be who they truly are while also 2. Taking responsibility for their own reactions, behaviors, assumptions, and expectations of their partner and the relationship. This book gives readers the tools to start giving permission and taking responsibility in their own relationships and offers strategies for letting go of dissatisfaction and habitual conflicts. In short, accessible chapters, readers learn how to put these seemingly simple rules into practice to regain balance and peace in their partnerships.

thriving counseling practice in Austin, TX. He is the clinical director and
owner of Plumeria Counseling Center.
Sabrina Kindell, LPC-S, LMFT-S, is a dual licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and

DBT Made SimpleA Step-by-Step Guide to Dialectical Behavior TherapySheri Van Dijk, MSW
■ New Harbinger excels in publishing accessible and
practical books on dialectical behavior therapy (DBT),
with over 200,000 books on DBT sold.
■ Sheri Van Dijk’s previous books have sold a combined
total of over 30,000 copies.
■ This book offers professionals a skills-based manual
for applying DBT in therapy.
Originally developed for the treatment of borderline personality disorder, dialectical behavior therapy, or DBT, has rapidly become one of the most popular and most effective treatments for all mental health conditions rooted in out-of-control emotions. However, there are limited resources for psychologists seeking to use DBT skills with individual clients. In the tradition of ACT Made Simple, DBT Made Simple provides clinicians with everything they need to know to start using DBT in the therapy room.
The first part of this book briefly covers the theory and research behind DBT and explains how DBT differs from traditional cognitive behavioral therapy approaches. The second part focuses on strategies professionals can use in individual client sessions, while the third section teaches the four skills modules that form the backbone of DBT: core mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. The book includes handouts, case examples, and example therapist-client dialogue—everything clinicians need to equip their clients with these effective and life-changing skills.
W Sheri Van Dijk, MSW, is a mental health therapist in Newmarket,
Ontario, Canada. She is the author of a number of dialectical behavior
therapy skills books.

The Mindfulness and Acceptance Workbook for Social Anxiety and ShynessUsing Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to Free Yourself from Fear and Reclaim Your LifeJan E. Fleming, MD, and Nancy L. Kocovski, PhD
Foreword by Zindel V. Segal, PhD
■ 13 percent of the general population has a lifetime
diagnosis of social phobia.
■ Mindfulness and acceptance approaches have been
proven effective for the treatment of social anxiety.
■ New Harbinger’s two previous books on social
anxiety, The Shyness and Social Anxiety Workbook
and 10 Simple Solutions to Shyness, have sold a
combined total of over 75,000 copies.
Shyness is a common problem that comes with a high price. People with shyness or social anxiety tend to avoid social situations and may have trouble connecting with others due to their extreme fear of humiliation, rejection, and judgment. Shy people may also experience panic attacks that make them even more likely to avoid social situations. With The Mindfulness and Acceptance Workbook for Social Anxiety and Shyness, the authors’ acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) program for overcoming shyness has become available to the public for the first time. This program has been found to be highly effective in research studies for the treatment of social anxiety disorder and related subclinical levels of shyness.
In the first section, readers confront performance fears, test anxiety, shy bladder, and interpersonal fears—fundamental symptoms of social anxiety. The second part helps readers learn psychological flexibility to improve their ability to accept the feelings, thoughts, and behavior that may arise as they learn to work past their anxiety. By keeping their values front and center, readers gradually learn to move beyond their fears and toward greater social confidence. The book also includes a companion CD featuring additional guided mindfulness exercises and worksheets.
Jan E. Fleming, MD, is a psychiatrist who divides her time between a private practice
devoted to individuals suffering with social anxiety and her work as consultant in a hospital-
based anxiety disorders clinic. Nancy L. Kocovski, PhD, is a clinical psychologist and
associate professor in the department of psychology at Wilfrid Laurier University. Foreword
writer Zindel V. Segal, PhD, is professor in the departments of psychiatry and psychology
at the University or Toronto and head of the cognitive behavioral therapy clinic of the mood
and anxiety disorders program in its clinical research department.
