From Probate Judge Marty Landgrebe:

During National Senior Center Month, the Housatonic Probate Court recognizes and celebrates the lives of our seniors.

Senior centers are recognized today as one of the most widely utilized services in our communities. Connecticut has 164 centers and nationwide, there are currently 11,000 centers serving approximately 1 million senior citizens every day. Today’s senior centers are evolving to reflect a new view of aging that empowers the people they serve. They are connecting older adults with meaningful work and

volunteer opportunities. Senior centers provide access to valuable benefits and resources, including health insur-ance information and financial assistance programs. Senior centers are helping older adults manage their health and finances so they can continue to live in their homes as long as possible. We are very pleased to work with these great centers: Hilltop Farm Senior Center, Bridgewater, CT, Brook-field Senior Center, New Milford Senior Center, and Sherman Senior Center. Probate Judge Marty Landgrebe and the Clerks at the Housatonic Probate Court congratulate our local senior centers this month and every month. We recognize them as the resources and inspiration in our communities for wellness, lifelong learning, and access to benefits and opportunities. Judge Landgrebe is available for questions

every 2nd Friday morning of the month right at our Senior Center.

From the Desk of Cindy White, Director of Social Services …

It’s that time of year again. As summer turns into fall, we can expect to feel cooler days and nights. Unfortunately, our pockets will also be strained due to the high costs of heating our homes. Fortu-nately, thanks to great programs in your area, including Energy Assistance offered by The Com-munity Action Committee of Danbury, Inc. (CACD) you may be able to receive some help with heating costs this winter.

CACD’s Energy Assistance program helps income eligible participants with their primary source of heat. This includes assistance with the costs of obtaining fuel, utilities and solutions to energy costs.

To find out if you qualify, contact me, Cindy White, at the New Fairfield Department of Social Services. Office

hours are Monday through Thursday 8:30am-5pm and Fridays from 8:30am-12pm. I can be reached by calling
