STAR TSA HLTA Programme This programme is for teaching assistants who wish to be assessed against the national HLTA standards, leading to the award of HLTA status accredited by the HLTA Assessment Partnership via HLTA North of England.

Delegates enrolled on the programme Cost £1100 per person which includes the £180 registration fee and £250 assessment fee.

Outline of Programme

Running over a six month period (January 2018 – June 2018) candidates will be required to:

Attend 4 full days and 8 twilight sessions over the duration of the course. These sessions will focus on developing the candidate’s ability to teach whole classes of children across the primary age range.

Compile a portfolio of evidence and written assignments which demonstrates their learning against each of the assessment criteria for the course.

Undertake a final assessment. This comprises of a half day visit to the candidates school by an HLTA assessor and normally takes place 2-3 weeks after the final day of the course. During the assessment visit the assessor will meet with the candidate, teaching colleagues and the Headteacher. The assessor will also spend time looking at the candidate’s portfolio of evidence.

Support expectations for candidates

It is important that candidates have the facility to develop and practice their skills. It is imperative therefore that they have the full support of their Headteacher and are given the opportunity to teach each week in their own school during the course. Candidates will also be allocated an in school mentor who is an experienced teacher. In addition to this candidates will receive two visits from a course tutor who will watch them teach and offer support.

Minimum requirements

Candidates must have a Level 2 qualification in both Maths and English e.g. GCSE grades A* – C or Adult Literacy or Numeracy.

In supporting a candidate’s application for this course, headteachers will be asked to confirm that the candidate has the ability to achieve the HLTA standards. The standards can be found on the HLTA National

Assessment Partnership website.

vital role in ensuring the best possible education for every child by creating robust accountability for school leaders.

Crucially, that means using and being familiar with objective data on the performance of pupils, teachers and finances

to ask the right questions and ensure resources are allocated to school priorities. It also meansensuring that schools

prepare pupils for life and the workplace by building their character and resilience and by implementing their Prevent

headteachers in 10 primary schools to develop pupils’ metacognition and self-regulation skills.

The project primary schools serve forces communities around Catterick Garrison and the neighbouring RAF

bases at Leeming, Dishforth and Linton-on Ouse.

This project seeks to improve outcomes for all pupils through the development of pupils’ metacognition and

self-regulation - empowering pupils to understand their own learning and to develop skills to enable them to
