FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NEW CHILDREN’S BOOK INSPIRES TINY ACTSOF KINDNESSCan we build a kinder world? New children’s book says we can . . .one tiny act at a time.
SARATOGA, California, May 2019—We all want a brighter, kinder world but many wonder how to get there.
A new children’s book, Tiny Acts of Kindness published by Beaver’s Pond Press, shows us how we can create a
kinder world, one tiny act of kindness at a time.
“When my children were born, my only wish was for them to grow up to see the brightest world possible. I
believe that acts of kindness are the seeds from which a more loving world can emerge,” said author-illustrator,
Thuy Ha. “With Tiny Acts of Kindness, I want to emphasize how kindness can be found in the tiny things that
we do. When we smile at a someone or give a heartfelt ‘thank you,’ the impact of these gestures go far
beyond what our minds can dream of.“
Tiny Acts of Kindness is a charming picture book that inspires us to find the tiniest of ways to be kind to one
another. Through poetic verses and dreamy illustrations, the book takes you on the journey of one small act of
kindness as it travels, grows, and spreads—becoming much more than one could ever imagine.
In keeping with the book’s message, the author has donated more than 65 books, some of them to Pajama
Program, an organization that creates loving bedtime rituals for children living in shelters by offering magical
gifts of pajamas and books. The rest of the books will be donated to local schools and libraries. “My dream is
for Tiny Acts of Kindness to be on bookshelves and nightstands everywhere. I envision parents and caregivers
snuggling up with their little ones for an uplifting bedtime read. I see it being read to students in libraries and
classrooms,” says Ha.

What inspired you to write Tiny Acts of Kindness?
For many years, I made Tiny Acts of Kindness calendars with monthly themes to inspire myself and others to do one act of
kindness each month for a year. I received great responses about the art style and the idea of spreading kindness and was
urged to write a children’s book. It took me a while to figure out how to turn the calendars into book form. One day while
I was on a flight, the first few lines came to me. I wrote them down and the rest of the words quickly flowed in. I finished
the entire first draft on that short flight.
My deeper “why” behind the calendars and this book comes from my heartfelt belief that kindness is the antidote for
much of the suffering and separation in the world. I truly believe that when we choose to be kind—even in the smallest of
ways—something magical happens beyond what our eyes can see. And if more people do more tiny acts of kindness, I’m
certain we could create a brighter world.
What was your favorite part of becoming a published author?
My favorite part by far is having a platform to speak about topics that are meaningful to me. When I’m at events
promoting my book, I can talk about the magic of kindness, the significance of small moments, self-care, and a myriad of
other things I’ve always cared for, but never had much opportunity to speak about. In this way, the book has given me a
chance to be more of my authentic self.
What is your work schedule like when you're writing?
I have two little ones so finding time to write and illustrate means getting up before dawn. This also happens to be the
most creative time of the day for me so you’ll find me writing, sketching, and dreaming up ideas long before the sun
comes up. Early waking hasn’t been an easy habit to cultivate but I told myself that I would never create anything if I don’t
carve out some time in the morning. I’ve had to sleep a lot earlier, which means I cut out TV altogether. To me, the
sacrifice is well worth it.
What’s the next book?
The next book is called Tiny Acts of Bravery. It’s about showing up and being brave in small, everyday moments. It’s about
viewing bravery in a different way than what we’ve been shown in movies and books: fighting dragons, going into battle,
or saving the world. Tiny Acts of Bravery are things such as: saying no when you don’t want to say yes, standing apart
from a crowd to be yourself, or speaking out at the risk of being unpopular. While kindness should be at the center of our
hearts, I feel that bravery is what we need to truly affect change.
What was your favorite book as a child?
The Ugly Duckling by Hans Christian Andersen. I loved the story as a child but it wasn’t until recently that I read it again. It
hit me in such a profound way. I’ve always felt different and it took me a while to learn (and I’m still learning) that the very
things that make me feel different are actually my gifts, my strengths, my superpowers.
