The landscape invites us to lose all notion of time and to relish the beauty of these settings. This is a new tourism product dedicated to the medieval origins of Catalonia which takes in the region of the Pyrenees from Cap de Creus to Vall de Boí by way of two main networks and 13 local trails that bring together monuments and churches, villas and museums. Modernity Modern Catalonia is the product of industrialisation, the revival of traditions and a cosmopolitan spirit. Around the year 1900, Modernisme (Catalan Art Nouveau) became the style of the great civil works and the learned middle class, and it particularly left its mark in the field of architecture by way of the work of the great masters: Gaudí, Domènech i Montaner and Puig i Cadafalch. In the 20 th and 21 st centuries, Josep Lluís Sert, Ricard Bofill, Enric Miralles and Benedetta Tagliabue have taken the baton. Catalonia is internationally renowned for its artists who have played a role in shaping the sensibility of the 20 th century: the melancholic world of the early life of Picasso, born in Malaga and trained in Barcelona; the luminosity of Miró; the surrealism of Dalí; the matter painting of Tàpies and his beginnings in the Dau al Set group. Architects, designers and writers lend their support to place Catalonia at the avant-garde of contemporary creation. Geniuses of Catalonia Living heritage In Catalonia, culture means people. Catalonia plays host to the latest trends in museology while popular culture is undergoing a moment of revival. It joins up with Vilabertran, home to the canonical church of Santa Maria, and leads to El Pertús. Vestiges of the medieval past can also be seen in Figueres and Girona. Montserrat represents another of the important stages. The 14 th -century Llibre Vermell (Red Book) of Montserrat brings together the songs of the pilgrims and testifies to the age of these routes. The old Universitat de Cervera and La Seu Vella in Lleida constitute other important monuments on the route, combining architectural works and sets of monuments with sites of natural interest such as Ivars Lake, which boasts an interesting birdwatching facility. Trenches and fortifications have been restored around the Ebro River, the site of a devastating battle.

The Way of St James in CataloniaSets out from the Monastery of Sant Pere de Rodes in the Cap de CreusNatural Park. It joins up with Vilabertran, home to the canonical churchof Santa Maria, and leads to El Pertús. Vestiges of the medieval pastcan also be seen in Figueres and Girona. Montserrat represents anoth-er one of the important stages. The 14th-century Llibre Vermell (RedBook) of Montserrat brings together the songs of the pilgrims and testi-fies to the age of these routes. The old Universitat de Cervera and LaSeu Vella in Lleida constitute other important monuments. The route

comes to an end in Alcarràs, where it joins the Aragonese route, which continues on to Logroño.
