NOAA Program Review NOAA Program Review Recommendations:Recommendations:

Item 34:Item 34: …. a holistic approach to research that will consolidate activities, avoid duplication and provide the best results….….NOAA research be organized into weather, climate, coastal/ocean and living marine resource themes….

Item 35Item 35:: Science is critical to NOAA’s future.Recognize that NOAA must develop a corporate framework for science to insure....the optimum mix of in-house and external scientific capability….

Item 39Item 39:: ….increase engagement in interagency cooperative agreements…identify opportunities to apply successful models

Science DirectionsScience Directions– Relevance to NESDIS’ and NOAA’s mission – Addressing the longer term science directions– Developing our future workforce– Coordination of efforts via annual retreat

Leveraging University Research & CollaborationLeveraging University Research & Collaboration– Transitioning academic R&D to NESDIS– Opportunity to develop joint proposals with research and

academic faculty– Working with/developing graduate students– Hiring visiting scientists
