PRINCIPAL’S REPORT On the October 5 past students and staff celebrated 50 years of public education at Narromine High School where we reflected on the many changes which have occurred across the school and community. The school continues to evolve with constant updates to the physical environment to meet the demands of an education system that is forever growing and changing. As a school our goal moving forward is to increase the academic needs of all. Our focus will be on the skills and learning needs of our students in the 21st century. With this there will be new challenges and teaching pedagogies that will develop exciting and new learning opportunities for all. The plaques and trees, as you enter the admin area, acknowledge the contribution and role that public education has played in the history of our shire. The past is important as it teaches us lessons, while the present helps us to form our decisions and the future helps us dream of what could be. With this I leave you with something to take away and consider. We are all responsible for leaving a footprint in the past, we all have a role to play in the present and we can all dream of the future. Invest in your local public school and teachers to help develop and improve the community we live in and make the next 50 years something to be proud of. 2019 Wudhagaragarra Awards

Remembrance Day was acknowledged with a whole school assembly where we observed a minutes silence to remember those who gave their lives in war. Our leaders for 2020 (pictured with Ruth and Dick Carney) attended Narromine’s official ceremony at the cenotaph.

GRIP LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE On Monday 28 October our SRC and some of our AECG members attended the GRIP Leadership Conference along with many other future or current student leaders from New South Wales.

Thank you Mrs Mallon for accompanying us and thank you to Erin Payne for driving us. We all got in and gave all the activities a shot. We had the chance to learn about the four most important things when it comes to leadership: Generosity Responsibility Integrity People I believe we came away with a fresher mind and lots of ideas on what we can do to make our school better. YEAR 11 PDHPE OUTDOOR RECREATION TRIP – WOLLONGONG

Earlier this term, members of the Year 11 PDHPE class made their way to a very sunny Wollongong for their Outdoor Recreation Excursion. They participated in a number of activities including rock climbing, ziplining and tree top walks through the Illawarra Forest, go karting and one very steep hike up to the top of Mount Sublime. The students thoroughly enjoyed the experience and took away with them many new skills. The highlight for the students would have definitely been the go karting with Elissa managing to lap everyone (including Miss Stace) and the highlight for Miss Stace was the very leisurely hike (for her) up to the top of Mount Sublime. UPPER HUNTER BEEF BONANZA Eight students and five steers travelled to Scone to attend four days of beef cattle presentations, live steer judging, parading and junior judging. Even though there were 70km/h winds and a dust storm that ended up in a mud storm because of the rain, our students were engaged the entire time. We came home with some exciting results: 14 Years Paraders – Thomas Rose 4th 15 Years Paraders – Connor Callan 5th 15 Years Junior Judging – Justin Walsh Highly Commended Unfortunately, the competition was tight in the steer classes and they came away with great feedback from the judges but no ribbons. We placed 5th over the hook in the carcass competition. The show team would like to thank The Girls Academy, Chris Walsh, Forbes High School Show Team, The Cattle Shop, Jeremy Gill and Bruce and Melinda McColl for their support. Miss Mrowka Agriculture Teacher CLONTARF NEWS Term 4 already, where did the time go? The end of term 3 was super busy for the boys in Clontarf, finishing with reward days in Dubbo, our official opening, Ross Kelly Cup in Sydney and the end of term camp to Luna Park. Term 4 is another busy one. We have our Year 12 boys completing their HSC which we are super proud of, we’ve been to Bourke for a cricket carnival and Newcastle for a leadership camp and its only week four! The term will finish off with a massive trip to Cairns with the Year 12 boys once their HSC is done and then the reward camp to Jamberoo Action Park in Wollongong. Our program keeps growing and growing and we thank everyone for their support. Rob Burns and CJ Smyth Clontarf Academy

CAREER NEWS Year 10 Work Experience Narromine High School has a long standing Work Experience Program that allows Year 10 students the opportunity to undertake a week of Work Experience in an area of their choice. Work experience provides students with the opportunity to explore the workplace. It is designed to assist them in the transition from school to work, develop a greater awareness of their abilities and interests and to make appropriate, well informed and realistic career decisions. Many of our students gain employment through work experience. Dates - 25 – 29 November or 2 – 6 December. Students have to complete at least ONE week of work experience. Students who have a role in the School play are encouraged to complete work experience from 2 – 6 December. The choice and arrangement of placement is primarily the responsibility of students and their parents. Many families choose to use family or business contacts and it is great opportunity for students to practise job application skills by approaching employers. However, if you need support in any way, please feel free to contact me Tuesday - Friday on 6889 1499. Procedure:

1. Student contacts employer to seek confirmation of placement 2. Once employer has agreed to the placement - students lodge their placement with Careers

Adviser 3. Student Placement Record will be issued, which is the official form that must be signed by

student, parents, employer and the school 4. Students who are living away from home whilst on work experience will require an

additional form 5. No placement can take place until the completed documents have been returned to the

Careers Adviser It is important that students allow sufficient time for these events to take place prior to the time of placement. Amity’s Work Experience Amity Gordon (see photos below) completed her work experience over the school holidays at FremantleMedia. She was able to organise this through ex-student Paul Millgate who is a series producer with FremantleMedia. White Card Training Students have the opportunity to participate in Workplace Health and Safety Induction training for the construction industry, a qualification more commonly known as White Card Training. The training is to be completed over one day, Thursday 21 November at a cost of $50. All notes need to be returned before the course day.

NARROMINE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS TO GET DAIRY CREATIVE IN THE KITCHEN 25 of our students have been whipping up a storm in the kitchen this semester, thanks to the Great Ocean Road – Careers Made Here – Cheese Your Own Creation Program. The program involves students in a uniquely creative way: in teams of two, students design their own imaginative dairy creation to bring to life. The student chefs then develop and make the recipe and submit a photo of the creation to be judged. Twelve lucky recipes will be selected for inclusion in the 2020 Great Ocean Road Calendar – unfortunately we were unsuccessful! The program is encouraging our students to use their imagination to bring amazing creations to life out of everyday dairy products. I am so impressed with the nutritious meals they have created with simple ingredients like milk and cheese. Through the program, students gained an understanding of the dairy industry, the nutritional value of its products and the importance of the industry to regional economies – all while having lots of fun in the kitchen. At the conclusion of the Cheese Your Own Creation program, each student will be awarded a certificate in recognition of their hard work and creativity. Miss Googe Food Technology Teacher
