I hope that everyone had a good holiday period, and I know that the staff appreciated a chance to recharge before launching back into another busy term. All of our staff attended the Special Education Principals’ and Leaders’ Association state special education conference in Sydney. This was a great professional learning opportunity where special schools present to each other a range of the projects and initiatives that they are developing or implementing in their schools. Unlike much of the professional learning in the state, this conference focuses on special education. It also includes our valued learning and support staff who usually don’t get the opportunity for targeted days like this. Over 1,400 teachers, leaders and support staff from special schools and settings around the state attended. Thanks to staff who had an early start and late arrival home from a long day of work. Back to the ongoing matter of student health, if your child requires an asthma management plan, epilepsy plan or anaphylaxis plan can you please ensure that these are prepared and updated by your GP and returned to the school. Some GP’s are choosing not to use the appropriate forms, if you can insist that would be appreciated, but if they don’t use the PEN forms please ensure all information is included if they provide it in another form. It is essential that if we have an emergency that our staff have the most current and in-date health care management advice to ensure correct procedures are followed and that we minimise risk to students. Another important factor in reducing risk and ensuring student health and safety is that the school has at least one primary and two additional secondary contact phone numbers in case of an emergency. It is a Department of Education prerequisite of enrolment that at least three contact numbers are available and working. We have had the unfortunate and distressing situations where the school has had to arrange an ambulance when we have been unable to contact any parent, relative or carer. Please ensure that the numbers you provide work, are able to be answered during the school day and that any contact listed is aware that they are an emergency contact. We celebrate the hand-over presentation of our new bus this week so there will be some photos at last for the next newsletter in a fortnight. The work at North Entrance campus continues with most of the ground clearing and cottage move complete. We are now awaiting the environmental assessments before our new buildings arrive.

Dear Glenvale Community,

Welcome back to Term 3. I hope that

everyone had a good holiday period,

and I know that the staff appreciated a

chance to recharge before launching

back into another busy term.

All of our staff attended the Special

Education Principals’ and Leaders’

Association state special education

conference in Sydney. This was a great

professional learning opportunity

where special schools present to each

other a range of the projects and

initiatives that they are developing or

implementing in their schools.

Unlike much of the professional

learning in the state, this conference

focuses on special education. It also

includes our valued learning and

support staff who usually don’t get the

opportunity for targeted days like this.

Over 1,400 teachers, leaders and

support staff from special schools and

settings around the state attended.

Thanks to staff who had an early start

and late arrival home from a long day

of work.

Back to the ongoing matter of student

health, if your child requires an

asthma management plan, epilepsy

plan or anaphylaxis plan can you

please ensure that these are prepared

and updated by your GP and returned

to the school. Some GP’s are choosing

not to use the appropriate forms, if

you can insist that would be

appreciated, but if they don’t use the

PEN forms please ensure all

information is included if they provide

it in another form. It is essential that if

we have an emergency that our staff

have the most current and in-date

health care management advice to

ensure correct procedures are

followed and that we minimise risk to

students.

Another important factor in reducing

risk and ensuring student health and

safety is that the school has at least

one primary and two additional

secondary contact phone numbers in

case of an emergency. It is a

Department of Education prerequisite

of enrolment that at least three

contact numbers are available and

working. We have had the

unfortunate and distressing situations

where the school has had to arrange

an ambulance when we have been

unable to contact any parent, relative

or carer. Please ensure that the

numbers you provide work, are able to

be answered during the school day

and that any contact listed is aware

that they are an emergency contact.

We celebrate the hand-over

presentation of our new bus this week

so there will be some photos at last

for the next newsletter in a fortnight.

The work at North Entrance campus

continues with most of the ground

clearing and cottage move complete.

We are now awaiting the

environmental assessments before

our new buildings arrive.

The Narara campus is still waiting for the installation of air-conditioning for our school hall and heating in the

student muster areas. Unfortunately all these works need to go through a centralised asset management sys-

tems which is extremely slow.

Finally, I hope that all parents and carers appreciated the new report formats that came out last term. I am al-

ways happy to get feedback.

Voluntary School Contributions

Every public school asks for a small contribution towards the many

costs associated with education programs.

At Glenvale, we ask that parents contribute $35 per child each year.

This has not changed for many years and is very small in compari-

son to other schools, even though our costs can be much higher.

Please consider sending in the $35 as soon as you are able to do so;

a payment can be made via our webpage www.glenvale-s.schools.nsw.edu.au. Go

to the ‘Make a Payment’ tab and follow the links.

Many thanks to those who have already done so.

All donations to the school over $2 are tax deductible as Glenvale is registered

with the Australian Tax Office as a deductible gift.

Term 3

Please return permission notes and information

regarding students ASAP.
