GLENVALE NEWS The Newsletter of Glenvale School

the

Dear Glenvale Community,

Well, here we are well into Term 2 and this is the

first chance at a normal newsletter in a long time.

The past months have presented many challenges

to students, families and schools across Australia.

Our society has had to manage anxiety, significant

change and learn new ways of acting and living.

Whilst our mainstream school colleagues were able

to transition to online learning relatively easily, the

same was not the case for our students and

specialist schools and settings across Australia.

Our school, like many other specialist schools,

developed physical resources and packs to send

home, utilised online platforms such as SeeSaw and

other apps in an attempt to try to provide some

consistency of learning during these first phases of

the Corona virus.

I apologise if there was any confusion regarding

communications or messaging during this time.

There were numerous messages from the

Commonwealth government, then each state and

territory government. Initially we were informed

that there would be a three phase approach to

returning students to school, but phase two was

skipped and we were told that all students could

return on May 25. Since that time the majority of

our students have returned to classroom learning

and it is great to see their excitement and have

them back at school.

I am conscious that many parents and carers are

still concerned about Covid and what the school is

doing to provide a safe and secure learning

environment. The school has had increased cleaning

hours with surfaces being constantly disinfected

and cleaned. Our staff are assisting in this routine

cleaning as well. We have good supplies of sanitiser

and students are being assisted to keep their hands

clean. We are temperature testing all students as

soon as they arrive each morning.

As we head into winter, the normal colds and

flu become more prevalent. It is extremely

important that parents and carers do not

send your child to school if they are unwell.

The Covid crisis is not over but entering a new

phase where constant monitoring and

awareness is required. If there were to be any

cases detected within our school, the

Department of Education and Health have

strict protocols for the management of any

confirmed cases. In any instance, the school

will immediately text and email every parent

and carer with information.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank

you all for your patience and support during

the last period and hope that the school has

been supportive and has communicated

effectively with you to keep you informed.

I would also like to acknowledge the incredi-

ble effort of our staff during the last months.

The innovation, dedication and efforts made

to keep programs and learning occurring and

working in new ways has been outstanding.

Finally, an update on works across the school.

The new contractor for the big building at The

Entrance North has been engaged and the

fit-out is underway. Once this is complete and

the old administration building gone, we can

work on making our playgrounds the best

they can be.

Approval has been given for a Wi-Fi install at

Narara with the proposed date being July this

year. Air conditioning will be installed in the

hall at Narara, at long last, over the next

week. New heating and fencing is also being

installed across the grounds.

Let’s hope that the worst of the crisis is in the

past and that no more disruption occurs and

that the ‘curve’ continues to decrease.

Regards as always. Matt

Voluntary School Contributions Voluntary Contribution

Every public school asks for a small contribution towards the many costs

associated with education programs.

At Glenvale, we ask that parents contribute $35 per child each year. This has

not changed for many years and is very small in comparison to other schools,

even though our costs can be much higher.

Please consider sending in the $35 as soon as you are able to do so; a payment

can be made via our webpage www.glenvale-.schools.nsw.edu.au. Go to the

‘Make a Payment’ tab and follow the links.

Many thanks to those who have already done so.

All donations to the school over $2 are tax deductible as Glenvale is registered

with the Australian Tax Office as a deductible gift.

Please return permission notes and information regarding students ASAP.

Full return to school from Monday 25th May

Term 2 ends Friday 3rd July. Term 3 starts Tues 21st July for students.

Important dates

Please sign your child in/out

Department of Education guidelines state ’school staff, as part of their duty of care, must

record and monitor part and whole day absences.’ This information is also essential in

the case of an emergency evacuation/lockdown. Therefore, please ensure when

dropping your child off late or picking them up early that you first sign them in/out at the

office. Thank you.

Please ring or e-mail us to let us know if a student is not attending school. As

the Covid-19 learning from home period is over, all students who are not at

school are marked as an unjustified absence unless we are advised of the

absence reason. Thanks for your co-operation.
