Hilltop Hanover Farm, originally founded in the 1700’s, was purchased by Westchester County in 2003: to preserve open space, support the environment, and protect the NY watershed. In 2010, with the farm’s future in doubt, the Friends of Hilltop Hanover Farm, an all volunteer group, was formed and has been managing this working farm ever since. The farm, open Tuesday – Saturday from 10 to 4, offers something for every age group. School children come for tours while adults attend weekend classes or are enrolled in the Westchester Community College/Hilltop Hanover Farm’s Certificate in Sustainable Agriculture program. Everyone appreciates the sights and sounds of the free-range chickens, goats, and the three cows roaming the pastures once occupied by over 200 dairy cows. Recognized as a TasteNY site, the 187- acre farm, which also has two walking trails, offers a vegetable share program (CSA) and sells its own organic vegetables at the farm stand. In addition to its own vegetables, products from over 10 local artisans are also available for purchase Fri-Sun. On Saturdays and Sundays (during the growing season), the “You Pick It” fields are open. Call to find out what may be picked. Yearly events include “Farm Fest,” “Farm to Table Dinner,” and “Pancake/Maple Syrup Weekends.” Call (914) 962-2368 or visit the farm’s website: www.hilltophanoverfarm.org

John Recchia DAS Auto Parts

DAS Auto Parts & Battery Center now has locations in Yorktown Heights, Mohegan Lake, & White Plains. We've been in business for over 50 years. Our mission is to bring exceptional customer service & value no longer found in this industry. We believe in building relationships with our customers before anything else. We have thousands of name brand items in stock with millions more available to us. From Wiper Blades to Batteries to Bulbs and everything in between, we have it all. We look forward to you stopping by or give us a

call. Where do you go when you need efficiency and accuracy when it comes to your car? The answer is fast and simple, DAS AUTO PARTS! Our business has been in Westchester for over 50 years! Our amazing customer service has rated us number one in Westchester County. But we're not just another "part store", our inventory ranges from Wiperblades, Truck & Auto batteries, Floor mats, Nerf bars, hitches, stereos, HID lights and ALL of your Truck & Auto needs. For our customer’s convenience we are open 7 days a week. Get your family where you need to go safely with DAS Auto Parts!!

John began working since he was 13, when he was employed at a golf course. At 15, he got into the car business because he wanted to purchase a Mustang and was told by his parents he would have to earn it. His current career started at a local auto parts store in Greenburgh.

Recchia outlined what he felt were the keys to his success. “We know our product lines. We’ve been hands-on. We can tell you from start to finish what the problem is or what needs to be done as opposed to a lot of these new stores that have come in. If their computer doesn’t know it or doesn’t show it they’re lost in the woods,” he said. “We figure things out. We get things done. We’re passionate about what we do. Obviously, that’s why we able to continue to grow in a time when every independent out there has gone by the wayside and has been eaten up by the large chains. We continue to thrive. Why? Because we have a model that works.”

“We consider ourselves the Ritz Carlton of retail auto parts,” Recchia added. Contact: 373 Downing Drive, Yorktown Heights, NY 10598, 914-352-6127.

Membership Committee Seminar– Update

As part of the Chamber’s effort to provide valuable information and meaningful guidance to the membership in running our businesses, your Membership Committee held a great seminar on Wednesday January 31st at Yorktown Town Hall on dealing with sexual harassment in the workplace. The program, sponsored by the Albert Chapman Insurance Agency Inc., provided insight into this important issue facing all business owners and managers. Attendees were enlightened about the Federal and State laws and regulations that apply to this area, the steps we must take to prevent claims from arising, and if they do arise, how to protect ourselves from the devastating costs and risks of litigation.Based upon the response from those who attended, the program was a resounding success, with excellent speakers and handouts (and a delicious breakfast provided by Little Sorrento’s). All of you are urged to read the fine articles in the Feb. 8th edition of the Yorktown News and the February 13th edition of The Examiner, both of which covered the program. For those who could not be there, you will see what an important program this was. The Committee believes that this is a topic which affects each and every member – from the largest multi-national corporation to the neighborhood pizzeria with one employee – but we realize that unfortunately, many of you cannot make it to a morning program. Therefore, we are considering presenting the program again, at an evening dinner meeting, within the next few months. If you want this program repeated (or if you have ideas for similar business forum programming) please contact the chamber office at [email protected] or call 245-4599.–Your membership Committee Feb 15, 2018
