My Father’s House International 2010 Annual Report
Our Mission
We are a Christ-centered ministry to children and families in crisis which: promotes the ministry of reconcilia-tion, reconciling people to God and families to each other. 2 Corinthians
5:20
provides opportunities for those called to serve. Matthew 25:35-36
partners with other ministries whose goal is to facilitate hope and healing.
Our 2010 activities Child care– We raised funds in support of the operations of La Casa de mi Padre, averaging over $30,000 per month. Outreach to families– Through our financial support, we contributed to counseling and language education for the families of our children. Mission teams– We sponsored four medical and construc-tion mission teams with nearly 100 team members. Community service– We continued to work in the home-towns of the children God has placed at La Casa de mi
Padre, providing medical care and hosting a Christmas party for the neighborhoods around La Finca.

The New Pavillion at La Finca This pavilion was built at La Finca in August thanks to a Matching Gift program by Vision Communications of Roanoke, Virginia and teams from Faithbridge United Methodist Church of Spring, Texas, Christ the King Presbyterian Church, and Cave Spring Baptist Church, both of Roa-noke, Virginia. The pavilion (pictured right) overlooks the soccer field and the site for the houses in Phase 1 of the building plan. It serves both as a starting point for sharing the vision of La Finca with potential development part-ners as well as a shelter for gatherings and events. This structure served as the site for a Christmas party for the children who live in the commu-nities around La Finca.

The Jon Read Memorial Tree House
In March of 2005, the Read family traveled to El Salvador to be part of a medical mission team. Ed, Debby, Kristi, her husband Ben, Kim and Jon were deeply touched by the people they met as they served there - especially the children of La Casa de mi Padre. Jon felt an instant attachment to several of the kids and was drawn by God to change his education direction. He began to pursue a graduate degree that would allow him to assist in providing clean water through wells and water purification to help prevent many of the illnesses the kids suffered. More importantly, he desired to use this means as an outreach to point people to the One who gives the “living water” of eternal life. Tragically, the Reads lost their beloved son and brother, Jon, in June of 2009. In praying about a memorial in Jon’s name, Ed and Debby felt nudged by the Lord to build a tree house in Jon’s memory for the children of La Casa. It seemed a fitting tribute to Jon’s adventuresome spirit and his love for the children. Ed then traveled with a team of 10 men, who were dear friends of the family and of Jon, to construct the tree house in March of 2010. One of the friends shared: “This has been an amazing week. It was such a joy to see kids
running around all over the tree house today. Sharing in such a simple, purposeful week has been a real
blessing. Such a fitting way to celebrate Jon.”
Jon had written this quote on his Facebook profile page, “the world can make us wealthy and can take
away, so i hold nothing.” Undoubtedly Jon was speaking of this world’s material wealth, not what truly makes us wealthy in this world – our relationships. He talked of this world being broken, and what really mattered is our relationships because they are eternal for all who find their hope in Christ. Jon found his deepest fulfillment in his relationship with God and showed others how to live life rich in self-giving, not self-satisfying relationships. Construction of the tree house was healing for Ed and the other men as in their grief they gave pleasure to the children. Ed said the week was a taste of Heaven for them all. But, in Heaven, Jon will be a part of the “team.” Praise God for His awesome plan of redemption. Praise God that Ed will again serve on the medical mission team in March of 2011 when he will show Debby the memorial in person. There will be tears of joy and tears of sorrow shed that day…bathed in the sweet sounds of children playing.
Christy on the steps at Tia Ana’s Hogar in April 2002
Christy Larson and her hus-band Dale were among the foun-ders of La Casa de mi Padre.
While they moved from El Sal-vador several years after the home opened, the ministry and the children were never far from her heart. Christy’s family and friends wanted to throw her a big party to celebrate her 50th birthday in December; she wanted her birth-day to “count for something much bigger that myself” and used Facebook to make people aware of the ministry and to en-courage them to donate to La
Casa de mi Padre in honor of her 50th birthday. More than 50 people responded and over $5,000 was contributed to assist in the operations of La Casa de
mi Padre. Christy Larson is an example of how the children of La Casa
de mi Padre and the work of family restoration touches hearts. It touched her heart in such a way that, eight years ago, she was among those who stepped out in faith to begin the ministry. And, despite years and miles, the ministry continues to touch her heart today.

Salvador, one of the oldest boys at La Casa de
mi Padre, graduated from high school on Novem-ber 25, 2010. That in itself is a big deal. But, the fact that he graduated first in his class is truly ex-citing, especially considering his story. This young man has had many struggles in his young life. He and his sister, Eliza, and brother,
Alejandro were among the first children to enter La Casa de mi Padre in 2002. Salvador struggled at La Casa and at school for many years. After several years, he was diagnosed with ADHD and placed on medication. But, he remained unmoti-vated, didn’t do his homework, frequently lost his books, and even refused to take his medications. The staff at La Casa became used to unpleasant teacher conferences. At the beginning of the 2009 school year, how-ever, Salvador decided to make a change by dedi-cating some quality time to study. He used the counseling area in the evenings so that he could study in a quiet environment, and the next report period found him on the honor roll. His effort and determination had paid off! Since then, he remained on the honor each se-mester. He has discovered a passion for music, leading worship at school and at La Casa, and plans to enroll in a Christian music institute. This young man’s story is a testimony to his hard work and to God’s provision. Many faithful servants have influenced Salvador’s life, encouraged and supported by your prayers and donations.
