Ways that you can

serve: Pray for the ministry and the children and staff of La Casa

de mi Padre.

Share the ministry and story of La Casa de mi Padre with your family, friends, or church. Support our missionaries, the Powell family. Participate in our capital campaign in El Salvador. Meet Kelly Moreton

Kelly poses with Ericka and Graciella.

After lots of prayer and wise counsel, Kelly made the decision to go forward with her call. She spent months in preparation and, on Valen-tine’s Day, she boarded a plane with three suitcases of belongings to begin a new chapter in her life. Kelly’s official role is Mis-sion Team Coordinator, mak-ing preparations for the many teams that visit La Casa every year. She hit the ground run-ning when, in early March, she managed two teams visit-ing on the same week. Kelly’s passion, however, is for ministry with the older girls. She hopes to establish relationships and serve as a mentor to these young women who have experienced diffi-cult childhoods. She knows that this will be difficult work, and she covets your prayers as she seeks to share the love of Christ.

La Casa de mi Padre has experienced God’s perfect pro-vision on numerous occasions. The most recent has been the arrival of Kelly Moreton in February 2013. Kelly’s jour-ney to La Casa began in June 2012, when she accompanied a team of young adults from her church in Atlanta on a mission trip to El Salvador. God began to speak, using one of the young girls at La Casa to touch her heart and call her to ministry in Central America.

Getting Closer to the Move to La Finca The excitement is growing as the staff and chil-dren of La Casa de mi Padre anticipate the move to La Finca. Most of the permissions have been granted, and our ministry has entered into a rela-tionship with Third Lens, an organization based in Atlanta which provides oversight and expertise for facility development in underserved regions. The founders of Third Lens seek to view the world and its problems not just through the lenses of social/political issues and economic concerns, but also through a “third lens,” that of Scripture to reveal God’s plan for the world. (Check out their website at www.third-lens.org for more information.) The ministry of La Casa is privileged to be working with this organization on our project at La Finca. Fund-raising for construction is almost com-

plete, and grading to the sites of the two houses has begun. A Third Lens team recently completed con-struction of a retaining wall to protect the neighbor-ing properties from runoff once building begins. The existing house at the top of the property has been remodeled to house construction teams on-site. Please continue to pray for this project.

Introducing Students to Missions Each year, My Father’s House International partners with the Richmond Virginia chapter of the Christian Medical and Dental Association (CMDA) to provide medical and dental care to the people of El Salvador. This year the team served in three locations, providing a caring touch and a listening ear to those who seldom receive either. While the care and attention surely served to meet the needs of the people, it was the members of the team who were truly transformed by the experience. One student said, “We came to give but were given so much more by God who filled us to overflowing.” Another student related: “I could not be more thankful for this week and the profound impact it has had on my faith. I look forward to return-ing to classes with renewed confidence and enthusiasm regarding my call from the Lord to this profession.” We are grateful to the staff of La Casa de mi Padre for hosting these teams and providing opportunities for service.

Our Own Missionary

The Journey to Independence

Our transition home, The Bridge, opened a little over a year ago. As with most new adventures, this first year has been a learning experience. We have moved from having house parents on site to al-lowing the young people to live more independently. Missionary Kathy Porter oversees the house, but the young adults are responsible

This year God has called one of La Casa’s young men to serve as a missionary. Salvador originally felt called to join a group of young people serving with Youth with a Mission (YWAM), entering a training program culminating in a mis-sion journey to the Dominican Republic. This experience was life-changing for Salvador, and

as he searched for his next ser-vice opportunity, he was invited to work with YWAM for an additional year, training other young people to serve as he has done. Salvador has raised his own support, both for the initial ex-perience and for his year of ser-vice as a trainer. He shared with his donors: “I have always had the desire in my heart to give my life in service for the Lord. I truly want to be a missionary to share the immense love of God and all that He has done in my life.” Please keep Salvador in your prayers as he serves with YWAM this year.

for the care and upkeep, cook-ing their own meals and doing all the chores. Five people currently live at The Bridge, four who have graduated from high school and one who is attending adult learning classes to obtain her high school diploma. Soon two more girls will turn 18 and be eligible to move from La Casa

to The Bridge.

Our vision has been to assist our young adults in reaching their full potential as they discover God’s will and di-rection for their lives. As part of this journey to independ-ence, these young people have begun to look for work experience. They have at-tended workshops to help them think through life goals and to apply for job opportu-nities. Three of them cur-rently work either full– or part-time and are contributing to the expenses of the house.

On February 1, 2012, the Lord called Lydia (Puschel) Holmer home after a long battle with cancer. Lydia lives on in the hearts of the children at La Casa de mi

Padre Padre, and she is re-

membered each time the bell at the chapel rings. Lydia came to El Salvador in March 2006. She worked with the children and oversaw their healthcare. The children loved her, and she cherished her time in El Salvador. During her stay, she developed nagging back and leg pain and returned home to Germany early in 2007. In April of that year, she was diagnosed with chondrosar-coma and began a lengthy treat-ment process involving surgery, chemotherapy, and rehabilita-tion. Lydia remained upbeat despite many setbacks, and the children of La Casa remained close to her heart. She created a fund to raise

money for a bell to be housed in the chapel at La Finca. She and her family arranged to have the bell cast in Germany and transported to El Salvador. To the end, she was pas-sionate about the ministry of La

Casa and its children. And in El Salvador, Lydia’s memory lingers on, a sweet savor of remembrance, whenever the bell is rung.
