Volksmarch As part of the 17th annual Oktoberfest Celebration, Fort Belvoir and Northern Virginia Volksmarchers sponsor a sanctioned 10K with an alternate 5K Volksmarch 6-7 Oct 2012. Volksmarch is German for “all people’s walk”. This Volksmarch is non-competitive and the

route takes you through North Post trails, the golf course and sidewalks. The Volksmarch is open to the public and walkers can start anytime between 10 AM and 2 PM but the route must be completed by 5 PM both days. The Volksmarch start/finish area is outside the fest grounds near Goethals Road. The event is free, however, since it is a sanctioned event, each participant has to opportunity to pay for credit and an award. Pets are allowed on the Volksmarch route but not on the fest grounds. Garrison Field Day – October 12 The following DFMWR facilities will have altered hours of operation during the Garrison Field day on October 12: CYSS will be closed all day Community Center will be open 8 to 10 a.m. and 3:30 to 8 p.m. Graves Fitness Center will be open 5 to 10 a.m. and 3 to 9 p.m. Body Shop will be open 5:30 to 10 a.m. and 3 to 8 p.m. Specker Field House will be open 6 to 10 a.m. and 3 to 8 p.m. Benyaurd Pool will be open 6 to 10 a.m. and 3:30 to 8 p.m.

Kawamura Center Wood Shop Closed The Wood Shop is temporarily CLOSED due to safety issue with the dust collection ventilation system. Although repairs are underway, it is unclear when the Wood Shop will be able to reopen and resume normal operating hours. All scheduled classes are cancelled until further notice.

Van Noy Library Closed The library will re-open once all renovations have been inspected. Please return checked-out Van Noy Library materials to the book drop at Van Noy Library Building 1024, 5966 12th Street

Travel Camp Construction Area Safety The new travel camp construction is underway between Johnson and Morrow Roads. Construction signs are posted. Runners and other pedestrians must remain on the

pedestrian walk way around the construction area. It is very important that individuals stay on the designated path and out of the way of the heavy equipment. We thank everyone for their compliance in the name of safety. If you have questions about the pedestrian walkway or the project, call 703-806-3940.

Twilight Golf hours Starting Monday, 1 October, and ending Wednesday, 31 October, the Golf Course changes the start time of Twilight golfing to 4 p.m. Beginning on Thursday, 1 November, fee revert the winter rates. Call 703-806-5878 for details

ACS Symposium October is the Domestic Violence Awareness month. Join us on October 2 at ACS for a free Symposium with Col. Gregory Gadson from 1 to 3 p.m. Bldg.200. For more information, please call 703-805-1832.

Tools for Organization Workshop ACS is hosting an new EEMP workshop is designed to teach you how to organize your important documents and stay prepared for the many demands of military life. The workshop is on Friday October 5 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. For more information, please call 703-805-5435.

New Functional Fitness Training Session A new 8 week Functional Fitness session is starting October 29. The class times are the following: M/W/F 5:30, 6:30 and 11:30 a.m. and Tues/Thurs 6p.m. Pre-registeration is required at Graves or Bodyshop. Active duty registration opens October 8 and Civilian registration opens October 15. For more information, please call 703-806-5368.

New Classes at Frame Shop New Basic Stain Glass class scheduled to start Thursday October 11 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. It is a 7 session class. The cost is $100 plus supplies. The Frame Shop is also offering a Basic Framing Class on Saturday October 20 from 8 a.m. to Noon. The cost for this class is $65 and includes all materials.
