RETIREMENT OF MWO CINDY J. MARCHE, CD, SUPPLY TECHNICIAN After 32 years of service, Cindy will be hanging up her military uniform on May 29th, 2015. Since, enrolment numbers were high at the time and getting a desired trade was difficult, Cindy initially agreed to join the Armed Forces in May of 1983 with the Military Police trade. (Yup, even back then we were told that we could always change our trade later!) However, once she arrived at boot camp, the medical team discovered that someone goofed and signed up a “blind” cop! Eyesight as bad as hers required an immediate trade reassignment. Luckily, Cindy was assigned to her original first pick and left Cornwallis, NS for Borden, ON to CFSAL (Canadian Forces School of Administration and Logistics) to start her career as a Sup Tech. With luck still on her side, Cindy’s first posting was to CFB Summerside, PEI. After almost 5 years of walking on beaches and regular Surf and Turf dinners, it was time to get back to reality with her second posting. She was quickly whisked away in the spring of 1988 to Borden, ON; this time as staff at CFSAL. An educational tour at the school was rewarded with a posting to 2 Svc Bn at Petawawa, ON for her first taste of the Army. After 3 years with 2 Svc Bn, she was posted to Medical Depot before another external posting and back to the Air Force. Cindy’s return to the Air Force in 1996 was a posting to Cold Lake, AB where she completed the first 2 of her 3 tours to OP Danaca in the Golan Heights. The first was as a Cpl with Maintenance Company and the second as a MCpl with Supply Company. Both on the Israeli side in Camp Ziouani. With her promotion to Sgt, and almost 20 years to the day, Cindy was posted home as a Recruiter to CFRC Calgary. Considered one of the true highlights of her career, Cindy attended recruiting events all over central and southern Alberta and had the privilege of providing presentations at many area Elementary and High Schools. 2 years later, she went back to the Middle East in what turned out to be the final tour of Op Danaca. This time posted to UNDOF HQ in Syria at Camp Faouar. After the close out of the Canadian Contingent in the Golan Heights, Cindy headed back to Canada and to a yearlong French course in Kingston, ON. After successfully completing the course, she remained in Kingston one more year as the RQ of CFSCE before being promoted to Warrant Officer and earning a posting to Sup Coy, 1 Svc Bn in Edmonton, AB. A year into her posting to 1 Svc Bn, she moved over to Task Force 3-09 for training to go to Afghanistan. Upon her return in the spring of 2010, she was moved to Admin Coy as the FSG CQ to provide 1st line support to the close-out tour. In May of 2011, Cindy was promoted to her current rank and posted to 1 Area Support Group (1 ASG) as the G3 Sup; which transformed to the 1 ASG G4 Sup; which transformed to the 1 ASG BTSO G4 Sup; which transformed to the 1 ASG BTSO Ops MWO; before she was moved to 1 ASG

G3 Resources; which transformed to the 3 Canadian Division Support Group (3 CDSG) Ops Resources…whew, she went through a bit of an identity crisis during the Army’s transformation but weathered it well. During her posting to the formation, she deployed to the Manitoba Floods on OP Lustre and was engaged as the Materiel Management SME for the establishment of the Canadian Armed Forces Artic Training Centre now fully operational in Resolute Bay, NU. 3 CDSG Operations Branch is where Cindy is ending her military career; however, she is not going far as she successfully competed for a warehouse supervisor’s position at 7 CFSD. This new phase of life keeps Cindy in Edmonton with her beautiful daughter Jessica, faithful puppy Jasper, and close to her family and friends alike. As per Cindy’s wishes; there will be an informal DWD Ceremony luncheon held at the Edmonton Garrison WOs’ & Sgts’ Mess @ 1200 hrs on Tuesday, 16 June 15. A small fee will be collected for those partaking in the meal but the actual amount won’t be determined until the numbers attending are known. DÉPART À LA RETRAITE DE L’ADJUM CINDY J. MARCHE, CD, TECHNICIENNE EN APPROVISIONNEMENT Après 32 années de service, Cindy accrochera son uniforme militaire le 29 mai 2015. Comme le nombre d’inscriptions était élevé et qu’obtenir un poste au sein du groupe professionnel souhaité était difficile, Cindy a initialement accepté de s’enrôler dans les Forces armées canadiennes en mai 1983 au sein de la police militaire (on nous disait déjà qu’on pouvait changer de groupe professionnel plus tard!). Cependant, lorsqu’elle est arrivée au camp d’instruction, l’équipe médicale a découvert que quelqu’un avait fait une erreur en acceptant une policière « aveugle »! En raison de sa vue médiocre, elle a dû immédiatement changer de groupe professionnel militaire. Heureusement, Cindy a été assignée à son premier choix et a quitté Cornwallis, en Nouvelle-Écosse, pour se rendre au Centre d’instruction de logistique des Forces canadiennes (CILFC), à Borden, en Ontario, où elle a entamé sa carrière à titre de technicienne en approvisionnement. Une fois de plus, Cindy a eu de la chance. Sa première affectation a eu lieu à la BFC Summerside, à l’Île-du-Prince-Édouard. Après près de cinq années de promenades le long de la plage et de soupers pré et marée, le moment était venu de revenir à la réalité en vue de sa deuxième affectation. Au printemps de 1988, elle a été transportée rapidement à Borden, en Ontario, cette fois en tant que membre du personnel du CILFC. En récompense de cette période de service éducative à l’école, Cindy a obtenu une affectation au 2 Bon Svc à Petawawa, en Ontario, où elle a goûté à l’Armée. Après trois années au sein du 2 Bon Svc, elle a été affectée au dépôt médical avant d’obtenir une autre affectation externe et de retourner à la Force aérienne. En 1996, Cindy a été affectée à Cold Lake, en Alberta. Au cours de cette affectation, elle a participé à deux de ses trois déploiements sur le plateau du Golan dans le cadre de l’Op Danaca, le premier en tant que caporal au sein de la compagnie de maintenance et le deuxième en tant que caporal-chef au sein de la compagnie d’approvisionnement. Les deux déploiements ont eu lieu du côté israélien, au Camp Ziouani. Cindy a été promue au grade de sergent et, après près de 20 ans jour pour jour, elle a été affectée à sa ville natale comme recruteuse au CRFC Calgary. Un véritable point culminant dans sa carrière, Cindy a eu l’occasion d’assister à des activités de recrutement partout dans le centre et le sud de l’Alberta et le privilège de présenter des exposés à diverses écoles élémentaires et secondaires de la région. Deux ans plus tard, elle a participé à son dernier déploiement au Moyen-Orient dans le cadre de l’Op Danaca. Cette fois, elle a été affectée au QG FNUOD, au Camp Faouar, en Syrie. Après le départ du contingent canadien du plateau du Golan, Cindy est rentrée au Canada et a suivi une formation linguistique en français d’un an à Kingston, en Ontario. Après avoir réussi le cours, elle est demeurée à Kingston pendant une autre année en qualité de QMR de l’EECFC.

Elle a ensuite été promue au grade d’adjudant et affectée à la Cie Appro du 1 Bon Svc, à Edmonton, en Alberta. Après une année au sein du 1 Bon Svc, elle a effectué l’entraînement de la Force opérationnelle 3-09 en vue d’un déploiement en Afghanistan. À son retour au printemps de 2010, elle a assumé les fonctions de QMC GSA de la Cie Admin afin de fournir un soutien de première ligne à la mission de clôture. En mai 2011, Cindy a été promue à son grade actuel et affectée au 1er Groupe de soutien de secteur (1 GSS) à titre de G3 Appro, puis de G4 Appro 1 GSS, puis d’OSTB G4 Appro 1 GSS, puis d’Adjum Ops OSTB 1 GSS, avant de passer au G3 Ressources 1 GSS, qui est devenu Ressources Ops du Groupe de soutien de la 3e Division du Canada (GS 3 Div CA). Ouf! Elle a traversé une crise d’identité durant la transformation de l’Armée, mais elle s’en est bien tirée. Au cours de son affectation à la formation, elle a participé à l’Op Lustre lors des inondations au Manitoba et a été embauchée comme EM de la gestion du matériel lors de l’établissement du Centre d’entraînement des Forces armées canadiennes dans l’Arctique, qui est maintenant entièrement opérationnel à Resolute Bay, au Nunavut. Cindy terminera sa carrière au sein de la Branche des opérations du GS 3 Div CA, mais elle ne s’en ira pas loin puisqu’elle a obtenu un poste de superviseure d’entrepôt au 7 DAFC. Cette nouvelle étape de sa vie lui permettra de demeurer à Edmonton avec sa fille Jessica et son chiot Jasper, en plus d’être près de sa famille et de ses amis. À la demande de Cindy, une cérémonie informelle de départ dans la dignité aura lieu au mess des adjudants et des sergents de la garnison d’Edmonton, à 12 h, le mardi 16 juin 2015. Les personnes qui souhaitent prendre de la nourriture devront verser une somme minime (le montant exact sera déterminé après la confirmation du nombre de participants).
