Module Aims Learning Outcomes Learning Outcomes Assessment ELECTIVES FAIR 2009 carnegie faculty of sport and education Museums For Children: Play and Learning In A Museum [Semester 2: 15 Credit Points] This module aims to engage students in: Critical analysis and reflection on the historical and international development of museums for children; Critical review of developmentally and culturally appropriate provision, design and resourcing of museums for children; Research and critically reflect on appropriate strategies, knowledge and understanding for working with or for children in a museum setting. This module is hosted at Eureka! The National Children’s Museum which is located adjacent to the rail station in Halifax. There are six afternoon sessions which will run towards the end of the semester. Each session will include an opportunity to investigate the museum environment and work alongside museum staff. The sessions are delivered by a multi- disciplinary team that includes managers of Eureka! On completion of this module, students will have: Critically analysed and reflected on the historical and international development of museums for children; Critically reviewed developmentally and culturally appropriate provision, design and resourcing of museums for children; Researched and critically reflected on appropriate strategies, knowledge and understanding for working with or for children in a museum setting. Formative: Presentation using multi media to a selected audience in Eureka! The National Children’s Museum Peer and tutor assessed. Pass/fail. Summative: (100%) A written report. The title and format is student negotiated. The equivalent of 2000 words for 15 CATs Level 3 undergraduate.

This module aims to engage students in:

• Critical review of developmentally and culturally appropriate provision, design and resourcing of museums for children;

• Research and critically reflect on appropriate strategies, knowledge and understanding for working with or for children in a museum setting.
