MULYAN PUBLIC SCHOOL NEWSLETTER Term 4~ Week 7 www. [email protected] Wednesday, 19th November 2014 Dear Parents, What a night our Spring Fair turned out to be! It was a wonderful night with a lots of great community spirit, lots of activities for all age groups and a lots of hot but happy faces. Thank you to everyone who came along and supported the school and the P&C. It was a great night. Thank you to the organisers and the P&C committee who put together this huge event and have spent many months ensuring that everything came together on the night so very, very well. From early on Friday morning, a group of parents were busy working setting up , organising, running stalls and then finally dismantling stalls, cleaning up and counting money. A huge thank you to everyone involved. After the count on Friday night a sum in excess of $5,000 has been raised, all of which will come back to the students to purchase classroom resources, sports equipment etc. Well done. Last week, our Year 6 students travelled to Cowra High School and met up with other Year 6 students from Cowra Public School, St Raphaels and the small schools to spend a full day getting to know the school, its teachers and the other students who will be their peers in 2015. Then, on the next night, they had a Years 6 & 7 social at the High School. According to all reports, both events were extremely successful and have allowed our Year 6 students to experience what they can expect in 2015. On the same day, our Year 2 students were given the opportunity to spend recess in the primary playground and then a session with the Year three teachers . The students impressed the Year 3 teachers and the other primary staff. Recently, our Stage 3 students went away on their 3 day excursion to Sydney and the South Coast. They have come back to school with lots of great stories and many happy memories of their time away. Some of the highlights included meeting the Premier of NSW, a tour of the SCG and the Football Stadium, paddling at the beach and time spent at Jamberoo. Many of our students had the opportunity to meet some of the South Sydney Rabbitohs as they were there on the same day. What a treat that would have been!! Thankyou to Mrs Statham who organised the excursion and to Mr Ryan, Mrs Apps, Mrs Wilson and Mrs Knight who accompanied the students on the excursion. This Friday, at 11.45am, the Year 6 students who were in the Public Speaking will compete in the final to determine the Public Speaking Champion for 2015. The students involved are: Maegan Carroll Tahli Holmes Bella Pangas Topia Ryan-Sutherland Ava Spratt Lucy Sutherland Chelsea Apps Maddy Niven Kyle O’Brien Parents and friends are more than welcome to come along and listen to our future leaders and aspiring politicians. The VTS is the venue. Good luck to all our speakers. Starting next week and running for a fortnight, the special swimming scheme for students in Years 2-6 will take place at the Cowra Pool. This scheme is for students who are non swimmers or poor swimmers only and is conducted with fully qualified swimming instructors. There is no cost for the lessons. The only charge is for bus and pool entry. Please take advantage of this scheme. If the weather stays as hot as it has been, a dip in the pool would be fantastic and knowing that your child is confident in or around water would be comforting. Next week, Mrs Murray, Mrs Jeffries and 8 Aboriginal students will be travelling to Sydney to take part in the Aboriginal Dance Ensemble at this year’s Schools Spectacular. They will be rehearsing from Monday through Thursday with a matinee on Friday followed by Friday and Saturday evening performances. Our students will join up with others from right across NSW in this ensemble. For those who have never been to a Schools Spectacular Performance I strongly urge you to go and see for yourself the talent of public school children. At the recent P&C meeting the following proposals were discussed:

1. Changing the hat to one with a wider brim and larger fitting options. We have been to Mr Embroi- dery and there are other hat options that come in larger sizes with a wider brim. The cost remains the same. The hats will no longer have red piping around the edge, however will still be embroidered the same.

2. Proposal to remove bib from girls uniform - After speaking with Mr Embroidery there is an option to remove the bib from the girls winter uniform.

3. Changing the white shirt- There has been a proposal to change the white sports shirt to a different colour-this will add to the cost of the shirt.

All proposals will be voted on at the next and final meeting for the P & C which will be held at 7.30pm on

Wednesday 26th November. If you would like to vote on these proposals then please be at the meeting.
