MULYAN PUBLIC SCHOOL NEWSLETTER Dear Parents, We are quickly heading towards our triennial Art and Craft Show - “Mulyan By Hand”. The amount of quality work that is being produced by all classes is outstanding, such as: venetian style masks, fruit bowls, one off designed T-Shirts, photo frames, wall clocks, jewellery and many more. The quality of work the children are producing has to be seen to be believed. Each child in each class is preparing 2 or 3 pieces of work for display and for sale. The total cost of all items that your child produces will be no more that $10-12. In many cases the cost of producing them is a lot more. This year there is only one viewing and selling day and this is on Friday, 5th September. The Show opens at 2pm and will continue until 7pm. When you come to see your child’s magical work, you will be able to purchase it and then collect it from 6.30pm or on the following Monday. We are doing it this way so that all visitors, whether they come early or late, are given the opportunity to see the high quality creative work that the students and staff at our school have produced. We hope to see you there! Congratulations to the boys’ soccer team who finally had the opportunity to travel to Orange to take part in the second round of the State Wide PSSA Knockout. They came up against a very well drilled and skilful team from Eglinton Public School. In a very close and exiting game, they unfortunately lost 2-1 but the game could have gone either way. Well done, boys. Thank you to those parents who helped transport the children to and from Orange, to Mrs Johnson for managing the team and, in particular, to Trish and Ewen Dun who gave up many, many lunchtimes to coach the boys. This is greatly appreciated by all the boys. Good luck to all our athletes who are off to Dubbo this Friday to take part in the Western Area Athletics Carnival. I know that all the boys and girls will represent our school with great pride. We look forward to hearing your results. Another exciting event that took place last week was the finals of our Spelling Bee. The winners in each stage for the event will now compete against other top spellers from across the western part of the state to find who will represent the Western area in the state finals in Sydney later this year. Thank you to Mrs Ryan for organising this exciting event. Congratulations to: Kyle O’Brien who is a Senior winner and Harley Day who took out the junior section. Congratulations to all the boys and girls who took part in the Olympic/ Commonwealth Games Day last week. Over 800 students from schools in and around Cowra took part and had a fabulous time. In true tradition of the games, the students competed fiercely, fairly and in friendship. Thank you to Mrs Johnson who organises this event for our students as well as the other students and schools of Cowra. Congratulations to the overall winner, “Canada”. Last week, I had a visit from the Schools Road Safety Officer as well as representative from RMS and the Cowra Council in relation to the crossing of Lachlan Street and the safety issues around end of school time. Some areas that were examined included moving the crossing up closer to the school gate, restricting parking and the safe crossing of the road by all students. Please be aware that students should not be crossing the road at the bus bay area and that if you are parked on the opposite side of the school, hat parents should collect their child from the school side and walk with them across the road. On the 10th and 11th September, 25 students from Stage 2 and 25 students from Stage 3 will be travelling to “Riverslea Station Woolshed” to take part in a new and exciting project called “Archikidz Goes Bush” . Archikidz in the city program has been running for the past few years. What this program is, is a chance for our student along with other students from Cowra and district to design and build a structure for the future. Students who go along to this project will work with architects, landscape architects, engineers and urban designers to design and construct a built environment for the future. This is a fabulous chance for our students to participate in a creative workshop with a focus on the future and built environment and to work with experts in this field. During the last week of this term, 21 of our students will be travelling to Sydney to take part in the State Dance Festival. They will join with students from right across NSW to dance up a storm. Our school, along with students from Cowra High, are the only schools from the Western part of the state to be selected to take part in this festival. Thank you to Alison Buckley who has been teaching and rehearsing the dance that our students will perform. Thank you also to Mrs Apps, Mrs Statham and Mrs Baratto who have also been involved in training our dancers. The Dance Festival will be from Thursday, 18th September at the Seymour Centre in Sydney. Soccer Congratulations to our boys’ soccer team, who defeated Canowindra and Bathurst to go through to round 3 which was held in Orange as part of a Gala Day. Unfortunately, the boys lost 4-3 against Eglinton and then 4-2 against Lithgow Public. The boys are to be commended on their skills, positive attitude, great team work and sportsmanship. A really great bunch of athletes. A massive thankyou to Trish and Ewen Dun for your countless hours of training the boys. Your dedication and commitment does not go unnoticed and Mulyan P.S. is truly grateful. We look forward to another great season of soccer in 2015! Mrs B. Johnson

Canteen News Lasagne will not be available until next term. We do have a lovely home made spaghetti bolognaise for $3!

Thanks to our wonderful parents, carers, volunteers and teachers, the canteen had a very successful day at our Commonwealth Games Day. It was a beautiful day, the kids had lots of fun and they still remembered to use their manners at a very busy canteen. Thumbs up to our Mullygrubbers!

Cans of fizzy drink will be available this Thursday (tomorrow) for $2!

Cheers Trish
