Dear Parents, Guardians, Students & Community members, Graduation, graduation, graduation! Everyone is getting very excited about this upcoming event and our Year 6 students are busily planning their hall decorations. Invitations will be sent home shortly as well as a note for our year 5 and 6 parents regarding the set up. Bush Fires As we all know, we are in the midst of an extreme bush fire situation, with many places continuing to go through these horrific events. On Monday, a directive was sent out from the De- partment of Education regarding students in the current smoky conditions. A copy of this letter sent to us attached. Due to this directive, we will be assessing the con- ditions each day and making careful consideration of whether the students will be playing outside whilst at school. Melbourne Cup Free Dress It was wonderful to see most of our students in their finery for our Melbourne Cup Free Dress day. Please check out the photos further on in the news- letter. Remembrance day On Monday the 11th of November, our school leaders, Claire and Logan led our Remembrance Day parade. Thank you to all our students for the wonderful respect they showed during this parade. Charlies visit. Yesterday Charlie, the Darwin Carpet Python ,came for a visit to school to assist us with our snake safe- ty talk. Everyone, even Mrs Schimke, was very brave and either held him or gave him a pat. Pre-Prep and open days Our last pre-prep and open wil be held on Wednes- day the 20th of November, from 9.00am to 11.30am. These days are open to any age student who may be interested in joining our school community in 2020. Year 6 High School transition. Claire, Logan, James and Bradley all had a fabulous day at their first Year 7 orientation. I know they are all looking forward to the second, to be held on Friday the 29th of October. Olympics Unleashed. Next Monday, the 18th of November, we will be having a visit from Hannah Joye (high jumper, as part of the Olympics Unleashed program. This program is taking our Olympians, Paralympi- ans and athletes aspiring to Tokyo 2020 out to pri- mary schools throughout Queensland to inspire and motivate students to be their personal best. The aim of the program is to encourage young Australians to pursue their passion, set goals and overcome challenges. The AOC have asked that parents sign a photog- raphy permission form, so that they may use pho- tos they take on the day. This form is attached to this newsletter. Swimming We have had a slight change to our swimming ses- sions for this term. The session that we were to miss on the 28th of November, due to a High School event, has been reinstated. Please remember to send your child swimming items on this day, as well as all others. Monto State High School Awards night. I was lucky enough o be invited to attend the Mon- to State High School award evening last Monday. As always it was wonderful to see so many of our past students. 14 of our 18 former students that remain at Monto High receiving awards. With Jes- sie Moscrop being named Cook Sports captain for 2020. On page 2 of this newsletter is a full list of students and their awards. A special mention also to Ethan Grubb. Ethan is currently attending the Queensland Academy of Creative Industries and received and Artistic Excel- lence Award at their recent awards function Congratulations to all these students for their 2109 awards. getting very excited about this upcoming event and

our Year 6 students are busily planning their hall

decorations.

Bush Fires

As we all know, we are in the midst of an extreme

It was wonderful to see most of our students in

Remembrance day

On Monday the 11th of November, our school

Bottle Recycling Keep the bottles coming, this is a really simple way we are earning a little extra for camp etc.

Next P&C Meeting Our next meeting will be Wednesday 27 November , 6.00pm, and, as is tradition, will be at the Albert Hotel. RSVP to the school by the 22nd. Please come along if you can.

Pot Luck Raffle As the end of the year approaches we are starting to prepare for our progressive raffle held at our Pot Luck dinner. All families are required to donate to the prize pool for this raffle and these donations can start coming in anytime from now on.
