PRINCIPAL’S COMMENTS: This week…. Bravehearts On Tuesday the Daycare students came along to our Bravehearts presentation. Ditto the Lion Cub and presenter Donna talked and sang about student protection and safe behaviours. They reminded students about private body parts, what to do if they are feeling unsafe and who they can talk with if they need to report something. All students from Years Prep to Year 6 heard the message and have been reminded about the importance of talking to an adult if they are feeling threatened or unsafe. Bookfair We are continuing our Bookfair until Friday lunchtime. If you are unable to come in this afternoon between 2.3pm and 4pm, you can come in from 1pm each day. Bookfair has been well supported. Public Holiday Monday is a public holiday. We have another short week next week. It is really important that students are at school on time each and every day, ready for learning. NAPLAN Students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 will be doing NAPLAN (National Assessment Program of Literacy and Numeracy) in the week of May 14. All students will need to be at school by 8.30, ready for the assessment. Tonia Smerdon, Principal DEPUTY PRINCIPAL’S NEWS Welcome to week 3! This is our first full week of term 2 with Monday also being a holiday. This is a reminder of why it is so important for our children to attend every available day of school. So many interruptions to the term means that teachers are continually assessing and teaching new content to ensure that results are ready for report cards at the end of this term. Students with poor attendance may also have lack of available testing and learning time, resulting in no marks on their report card. Please ensure that you are reminding your children that Everyday Counts! This afternoon our school team leave for Croydon with the hope of bringing home some wins for Normanton State School in the touch tournament. We wish all our players well and thank Mr Randall and Miss Cherese for giving up their time to take out students away for the next two days. Students that achieve are those that attend school as learners that are respectful, responsible and safe! “Normanton School is a Great School” Phone 47697222 Fax 47451322 [email protected] No. 13 2/5/2018/7/2017 Normanton State School Newsletter

HEAD OF DEPARTMENT NEWSThis week our 7/8 students have swapped Rotations. Design Technology swapped to Food Technologies; Food Technologies moved to Digital Technologies and Digital Technologies came to Design Technologies. The Design Technology students have nearly completed their first out of four projects. All students participating in practical subjects are required to wear varying PPE throughout the subject. PPE is supplied to the students by the school.

Work Experience for our 9/10 students has been scheduled for the last week of term. Work Experience is an excellent opportunity for our students to link what they are learning in the classroom with the real world.

Good luck to our students traveling today for the Croydon Touch Carnival. Please remember in order to attend carnivals, an attendance rate of 85% or higher is required.

Feel free to contact me at school to make an appointment to discuss any issues.

NORTH WEST RUGBY LEAGUE The 11-12 Years North West Rugby League Carnival was held in Normanton over the weekend. It was a very successful carnival with teams from Central West, Mid West and Mt Isa District in attendance. Shakana Casey, Jaiden Warradoo and Kailan Rainbow represented Normanton State School in the Gulf District Team. Our students put in a great effort against some tough opposition. Kailan Rainbow was fortunate enough to be selected in the 11-12 Years Girls Presidents Team that will compete in Chinchilla in September. Well done Kailan!
