MS Mighty Swim hit a fantastic milestone this year as it marked its 10th year of swimming to fight MS. The event didn’t disappoint with 381 participants joining in for the celebrations! Held on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 February at the Unley Swimming Centre, the swim was a huge success, raising over $100,000. The atmosphere was electric as volunteers, families and friends cheered the teams on. Teams also had some star power to keep them going with MS Ambassador and Adelaide 36ers player Mitch Creek showing his support by jumping into the pool to swim a few laps. Channel 9 presenter and Watch Around Water Ambassador Brenton Ragless also attended, cheering participants on and chatting with them along the way. Team MS were the highest fundraising team, raising over $13,000 which was a great achievement. All the money raised will go towards providing support to people living with MS in South Australia. ACT Crowdfunding Campaign

People with multiple sclerosis experience a range of symptoms that can be difficult to manage with conventional pharmaceutical treatments. The MS Society of SA & NT recently held an ACT crowdfunding campaign to raise money to enable us to offer a chronic pain management program to our Clients. Drawing upon extensive psychological research and best practice, this program is designed to help people living with MS to better cope with the challenges they face by re-focusing and re-setting goals. Importantly, this program will provide essential skills to help participants better manage symptoms such as chronic pain. Thanks to your generous donations, a total of $1,500 was raised which will enable 20 people with MS to benefit from the four week program.

THE MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS SOCIETY OF SOUTH AUSTRALIA & NORTHERN TERRITORY MS.ASN.AU

Dana and Carlie were only eight and two when I was diagnosed with MS in 2008. When your mum has MS, your life changes, and you miss out. It’s not fair, I never wanted this for my children. My youngest daughter, Carlie, is still struggling to understand what having MS means for me. She believes every medication I take will lead to a cure. My oldest daughter, Dana, is fiercely protective of me, and instinctively takes my arm if we are near steps. I was only 36 when I was diagnosed with MS. I was scared; scared for myself, my husband and our future as a family. I was sure I was going to end up in a wheelchair, unable to work or parent. My life crumbled around me.The MS Society was very helpful during this time. I saw one of their counsellors who helped me come to terms with my diagnosis. Thank you for supporting the MS Society. Your generous donation might make my daughter Carlie’s wish come true and gives us hope of a future without MS.
