M oulds are neither plants nor animals but are in a Kingdom of their own called fungi. This Kingdom includes mushrooms, both edible and toxic, which grow in New Brunswick, as well as mould found on food and building materials. It is esmated that there are over one million species of fungi on the planet. Mould spores are everywhere and can be beneficial (i.e. Penicillin, cheese) or harmful depending on where they are growing and how much is present. Mould/Fungi Tesng RPC’s Air Quality Group has over 20 years of experience in the idenficaon of mould in buildings. We are accredited by the Standards Council of Canada for idenficaon of fungal spores by the Spore Trap method. We also parcipate in Proficiency Tesng through the American Industrial Hygiene Associaon. Services Types of analysis include bulk, tape liſt, swab and air samples. Spores are idenfied on bulk, tape liſt and swab samples either by direct examinaon of the material or by incubaon of the sample on an agar plate, followed by idenficaon of any colonies present. On-site air quality invesgaons for mould are available. Indoor air samples are collected and are compared with outside samples to determine if there is a fungal amplifier present.
