New 2018 Parish Calendar This weekend!

Merry Christmas Eve! He was born in an obscure village, the son of a peasant woman.

He grew up in another village, where he worked in a carpenter's shop until he was thirty. Then for three years he became a wandering preacher.

He never wrote a book. He never held an office. He never had a family or owned a house. He didn't go to college. He never visited a big city. He never travelled two hundred miles from the place where he was born. He did none

of those things one usually associates with greatness.

He had no credentials but himself.

He was only thirty-three when the tide of public opinion turned against him. His friends ran away. He was turned over to his enemies and went through a

mockery of a trial. He was executed by the state. While he was dying, his executioners gambled for his clothing, the only property he had on earth. When he was dead he was laid in a borrowed grave through the pity of a

friend.

Twenty centuries have come and gone, and today he is the central figure of the human race and the leader of mankind's progress. All the armies that ever marched, all the navies that ever sailed, all the parliaments that ever sat, all the kings that ever reigned, put together, have not affected the life of man

YOUTH HUMOR OF THE WEEK

During the priest's sermon one Sunday, there was a loud whistle from one of the back pews. Johnnie’s mom was horrified. She pinched him into silence.

After Mass she asked, “ Johnnie, whatever made

you do such a thing?”

Johnnie answered quite excitedly, “I asked God to teach me to whistle...And He did just at that moment & you always told me to use

the talents God gave me!” And Mom could only sigh and smile :)

Fr. Adam’s Corner

Dear Parishioners, Tomorrow we enter together into the joyful season of Christmas. The Christmas season will last until the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord, which this year, is celebrated on Monday the 8th of January. The season begins with Christmas itself and it is such a great and solemn celebration, that we celebrate an Octave of Christmas, that is, a celebration of eight days. During the octave we have some special feast days of saints. December 26th is the feast of St. Stephen, the first disciple to be martyred after Pentecost. December 27th is the feast of St. John, the beloved apostle and evangelist. December 28th is the feast of the Holy In-nocents, those babies and young children massacred by Herod in his attempt to kill the Christ-child. The octave of Christmas concludes on January 1st with the beauti-ful Solemnity of Mary, whom we rightly can call the Mother of God. This year that feast is not a holy day of obligation, yet what better way to begin the New Year than by going to Mass on this great feast of Our Lady. Another beau-tiful feast day of the Christmas season is that of the Holy Family, celebrated this year on December 31st. On this day we recall the lessons of the family life of Jesus, Mary and Joseph in Nazareth. Through their simple yet joyful life we see the blessing that family life is supposed to be and can be in the plan of God for humanity. Also during the Christmas season, we get to celebrate the feast days of two American saints, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, the founder of the Sisters of Charity, on January 4th and St. John Neumann, the 4th bishop of Philadelphia, on January 5th. Both of these saints helped to lay the foundations of the Catholic school system here in the United States. Of course, during the Christmas season is the feast of the Epiphany, the visit of the Magi to the infant Jesus. From the magi we learn how to be aware of God’s presence and of what true worship of God consists. The Christmas season wraps up with the beginning of the Lord’s public ministry with great signs and wonders at the Jordan river as He is baptized by John. Wow, Christmas is a season of many feasts and not only do we learn from each one of them, but as we celebrate each of them in the sacred liturgy of the Church, they are made present to us, each one offering to us a unique grace that draws us ever deeper into the very life of Our Lord Himself. Peace- Father Adam
