HAPPY FATHER’S DAY !!!!

Prayer for Our Dads! We give our thanks, Creator God, for the fathers in our lives. Fatherhood does not come with a manu-al, and reality teaches us that some fa-thers excel while others fail. We ask for Your blessings for them all and forgiveness where it is needed. This Father's Day we remember the many sacrifices fathers make for their children and families, and the ways--both big and small--they lift children to

achieve dreams thought beyond reach. So too, we remember all those who have helped fill the void when fathers pass early or are absent; grandfathers and uncles, brothers and cousins, teachers, pastors and coaches and the women of our families. For those who are fathers, we ask for wisdom and humility in the face of the task of parenting. Give them the strength to do well by their children and by You. In Your Holy name, O God, we pray. At this time of year, with it being “ordination season”, I natu-rally find myself reflecting on the gift of the priesthood. It is, as St. John Paul II wrote, both gift and mystery. While it is a challenging life, it is also the greatest adventure one could ever undertake. What could be greater? Well, nothing. That in no way is to look down upon other vocations, for I have the highest regard for both religious and married couples. But the priesthood is exceptional, not because of who we priests are in and of ourselves, but precisely because of what God does in and through us, who He makes us to be, though we are most unworthy of this awesome dignity. As I think about the priest-hood, I cannot also help think about the sacrament of the Holy Eucharist. They are bond so intimately together that we can even say the priesthood exists for the Holy Eucharist and the Holy Eucharist would not exist without the priesthood. Of all the blessings of being priest, and there are many, none of them can quite compare with celebrating the Mass. To speak the words of our Lord as if they were my own! To hold and look upon the sacred host as it becomes the true Body of Christ, and likewise to hold and gaze into the chalice as the wine becomes His Precious Blood, is beyond my poor ability to adequately describe. It is a moment of awe, of fear, of be-ing overwhelmed by love. I share this for a couple reasons. One, today, the Feast of Corpus Christi, is our parish feast day! I invite you to really take some time this week to think about the Holy Eucharist. Has the Lord’s true presence be-come “commonplace”, something perhaps taken for granted or are you in total awe of the mystery? Does thinking about His presence in this great sacrament make you want to fall on your knees before Him and bow you face to the ground in adoration? If so- good! Come into His presence and do that! If not- why not? Come and visit Him in the Blessed Sacrament and let His Sacred Heart open up your heart. Now today is also Father’s Day. As I wish all our father’s a very happy day, and I offer you my prayers today, I also want to encourage you and challenge you to lead your family in a growing devotion to the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. Bring your children to the church each week, not just to Sunday Mass, but stop in one other time during the week and lead your children in prayer before the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. It will be one of the greatest fatherly acts you can do for them. On this Father’s Day I also want to encourage and challenge you to do something else. Encourage your sons and grandsons to consider becoming a spiritual father, a priest of Jesus Christ. As I said above, it is a life filled with many blessings. Is it a life of many challenges and sacrifices? Yes it is. Any-thing worth doing is. But the blessing of being so close to the Lord at the altar far surpasses everything else. It is also true that there is no greater way of making a difference in the world than offering the sacrifice of Christ in the Holy Mass and forgiving sins. The last son of this parish ordained to the priesthood was in 2011, Father Jeremiah of the Friars of the Renewal and the last son ordained as a diocesan priest was in 2000, Father Andy Gehringer. That’s seventeen years ago, far too long for such a great parish! Let’s get praying and encour-aging our young men to be open to the Lord’s call. Good fa-thers will do that best by bringing them to church to visit the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. Peace! Fr. Adam

In 2016 Most Blessed Sacrament parish celebrated a year-long commemoration of our 275 anniversary. The legacy of Fr. Theodore Schneider S.J. was a prominent part of that anniversary year because of his evangelization efforts in this region of Pennsylvania as well as New Jersey, New York, Delaware and Maryland. Fr. Schneider credited fellow Jesuits, St. Ignatius of Loyola and St. Francis Xavier as having inspired him and influenced his own missionary zeal. Fr. Schneider left his beloved Germany never to return again, and arrived in the US around 1738. The highlights of the trip included a walking tour of Fr. Schneider’s hometown, including his parish church, Saint’s Peter and Paul and a wonderful barbecue at his ancestral home. We also spent a day at the University of Heidelberg where Fr. Schneider was educated, served as a chaplain at the local hospital and was the rector of the university. We also enjoyed a trip to Speyer with its enormous, beautiful, and historic cathedral. GREAT MEMORIES!

Please come to Fr. Schneider Hall to view a slide show about the trip and plaza dedication following the

10:15 Mass on July 9th.

WATCH AND PRAY! Throughout the Gospels, Jesus calls us to vigilance and prayer. The “Liturgy of the Hours” is one important way to honor this command, praying in unity with the Church throughout the world at various times of the day. On Saturday, June 24 at 8:45am (after the 8am Mass), our seminarian John Maria will have a short talk that will ex-plain the Liturgy of the Hours, its history and how to get started. No prior knowledge is needed, all are welcome!

Week of June 19-22 2017

Vacation office hours will be 9 AM to noon.

Closed Friday, June 23rd.

YOUTH HUMOR FOR THIS WEEK An exasperated mother, whose son was always

getting into mischief, finally asked him, 'How do you expect to get into Heaven?'

The boy thought it over and said, 'Well, I'll run in and out and in and out and keep slamming the

door until St. Peter says, 'For Heaven's sake, Johnny, come in or stay out.'

Yep—St. Peter was smiling!
