INSTITUTION – INDUSTRY CONNECTS Outreach Training Program for Airport Authorities of India Ltd (3 Batches)

A major CSR Initiative

"Project Delight Your

Passenger (DYP)" -

Training Program for

120 Ground Staff, was

done by the HR center

for Airport Authorities

of India Ltd. The Project

included identification of

training need for eight

departments (Counter

staff, Vendors, House

Keeping, Trolley Staff,

Car Parking Staff,

Commercial Staff , Security) of AAI. The project started in May 2014, where a team of five students

were a part of the training need identification. A one month internship at the airport helped the team

understand the need and a training module was developed for the same. The HR centre designed the

content and the training program based on the approved modules. This work submitted to the AAI

received appreciations. The first program for the top level executives of Airport Authority of India was

delivered on Leadership on October 1, 2014. The consecutive program for housekeeping and loading

staff was delivered by Dr. Hemanalini on October 8, 2014. This session emphasized on Self Esteem,

Commitment at Workplace and more importantly Time management for improved work performance.

A session on handling customers was delivered by Mr. Senthil Prakash to the team of vendors on

October 15, 2014. A few more sessions will happen in the coming weeks for the other batches.

Training Program on Leadership for the IPO & ASP’s of India Post on October 31, 2014

KCT Business School conducted

One Day Training Program on

Leadership for the IPO & ASP’s of

India Post on October 31, 2014.

The training program was

inaugurated by Mr.T.Murthy, Chief

Post Master General, Tamilnadu

Circle Chennai. Accompanied by

Ms.Manju P.Pillai, Postmaster

General, Coimbatore and

Mr.G. Natarajan, Director Postal

Service.

The participants enjoyed and

learnt various leadership qualities & managerial skills. The platform provides various inputs for the

development of behavioral skills. The trainers encouraged the participants to actively participate in

various activities of the training programme and also to implement the outcomes of the programme at

the work place.

Dr. Vijilla Kennedy, Director - KCT Business School & Dr. Kirupa Priyadharshini, Associate Professor &

Head of HR centre – KCT Business School were the resource persons for this training programme. The

Online Trading through ICICI Direct Online Trading Software on October 8, 2014

hands-on experience to the participants.

Research Paper Writing on October 15, 2014

The Centre of Marketing, KCT Business

School was proud to conduct the workshop

on research paper writing to motivate first

year MBA students and initiate the habit of

research paper writing. Thirty students

from I MBA participated in this workshop

facilitated by Dr.P.Suresh Kumar, Mentor &

Director (Research),Knowledge Business

School. Participants were encouraged in

creative thinking and research through

various games and videos. The students

were introduced to step in research paper

writing through a live demonstration of the

steps for empirical research. Research using

secondary data was also demonstrated in the workshop followed by the methodology for research

paper writing. The workshop was highly interactive and motivating for students to attempt research

and paper presentations in student conferences. This workshop was coordinated & organized by

Faculty Coordinator B.L.Lakshmi Meera, Assistant Professor and Student Coordinator –

A workshop on Enhancing

Interview Skills was

organized on October 25,

2014 for the final year

students of ECE Department.

The workshop focused on

the techniques to crack the

Final round of interview for

placement. The session gave

the participants hands on

practice sessions in

interviewing and therefore

enabled them to understand

the recruiter’s expectation.

Pre-interview, during

interview and post

interview intricacies were

elaborated and tips on body

language and grooming was included in the session. Dr. Kirupa Priyadarsini. M Associate Professor

and Mr. Sridhar Babu, Lead Corporate Relations facilitated the session.

INNOVATIVE TEACHING - LEARNING METHODS Real Time Online Share Trading Workshop (ROSTP) 2014 on

October 8, 2014

The Centre for Excellence in Finance launched

the Real Time Online Share Trading Workshop

(ROSTP) 2014 for the batch 2013-15 on October

8, 2014. Thirty Three students have enrolled

for the ROSTP and participated in the

programme. ROSTP is a year-long application-

oriented learning initiative whereby the

students invest Rs.5, 000 of their personal

money in the stock market. ICICI Direct Limited

is the trading and banking solutions provider

for the ROSTP 2014. The learning from the

finance elective courses is expected to come

handy for the ROSTP participants in investment

decisions. Mr.A.Senthil Kumar, Assistant Professor (SRG) and Student Coordinator Ms.Padhma Priya,

batch 2013-15 coordinated the launch.

Focus Group Discussion on October 13 & 14, 2014

motives, perception & personality

that influence the purchase of

Mobile phones & Watches.

Fourteen students using apple

iphone & Fast Track watches from

first years were shortlisted as

customers, for the conduct of

Focus Group Interview.

The Organizers of M1 Batch discussed various aspects of buying behavior with the customers of Apple

iphone & while the Organizers of M2 batch discussed with the customers of Fast Track Watches to

assess the buying Motives. The session provided a practical exposure to the participants to associate

various theoretical concepts of Motivation, Perception & Personality to describe the Individuals. The

event was coordinated by Ms. Latha A, & Dr.Poongodi B, Course facilitators of Consumer Behavior

Faculty enhancement Ph.D Conferment

Ms. Gokilavani R, Lead Trainer defended her Ph.D title "Impact of

service Quality on Customer Satisfaction in State Bank of India in

Coimbatore District” in the Viva Voce conducted on October 16, 2014

the external examiner was Dr.E.Sulaiman from Mahatma Gandhi

University and he recommended for the award of Ph.D degree

Teaching" which was organized by Case Research Society of India and Madras Management

Association @ Chennai on October 10 & 11, 2014

Knowledge Sharing with KCT

1. Dr.B.Poongodi Assistant Professor delivered a guest lecture on "Agriculture and Farm

Mechanization” at TIPS Global Institute, Coimbatore on September 12, 2014. She addressed I

year students of MBA Integrated Programme. She deliberated on the general features of

present status of Agriculture labour, farm mechanization and its impact on Indian Rural

Economy ; She also deliberated on the role of Green Revolution and food production in Indian

Agriculture.

2. Dr.Kirupa Priyadarsini. M Associate Professor served as a resource person for a Guest Lecture

on "Instrument Design for Surveys" for III year B.Tech students in the department of Fashion

Technology, KCT. The lecture held on October 16, 2014, addressed on the applications of

survey based techniques in fashion and retail industry. The focus of the lecture was on the

purpose of the survey, method and mode of administering the survey, identifying the

parameters for the study and it concluded with some tips of administering the survey to the

participants. There were 60 students who benefited from the survey.

3. Students from the Fashion Technology department, KCT are working on Development of

designer wear with an inspiration from fishing line. The project adopted a survey methodology

to find the extent of preference for the new range and the reasons for the choice. Dr.Kirupa

Priyadarsini Associate Professor helped the projects in the survey and analysis stages. A series

of discussions with students and Dr.Shanthi .R, Associate Professor, Fashion Technology,

ensured the work brought out exceptional results.

4. Mr. Senthil Kumar A, Assistant Professor (SRG) facilitated a workshop on Fundamentals of

Financial Accounting for Batch 2014-16 students of M.Kumarasamy College of Engineering,

Karur on October 27, 2014. The workshop aimed to deliver the knowledge and skills required

in preparing the financial accounting statements. The participants will be able to individually

prepare the financial statements as the outcome of the participative and interactive sessions.

RESEARCH & PUBLISHING

Research Forum Meet The research forum meeting for

the month was organized on

October 18, 2014.Dr.Subha,

Associate Professor, Anna

University was the external

subject expert for The B: OK

(bytes of knowledge session for

the month) session. She

addressed the scholars on the art

of writing and publishing

scholarly articles. The ideas

about using different reviews for

different sections of the paper,

identifying the journal before

writing and using the publications

from the same journal were some

of the novel tips given to

researchers. Her elaborate discussion on annexure and the quality of writing was very informative to

participants who were keen on publishing. Prof. Swaminathan thanked Dr. Subha for her inputs and

presented her a memento as a token of appreciation.

Publications by faculty Dr. Jaisankar S published a book titled “Quantitative Techniques and Operations Research”

published by Excel Books Private Limited as study material for Indian Institute of Materials

Management. September 2014

Ms.S.Sangeetha and Dr. K.Chitra published a paper titled "Assessment of Credit Risk and Financial

Shadow Program

Ms Deepa Manickam, Assistant Professor, conducted a Shadow program on Emotional Literacy for

Personal and Professional Success on October 8, 2014. Emotional literacy is very important as it gives

the ability to recognize, understand and appropriately express ones

emotions.

Dr. Kirupa Priyadharshini & P.Senthil Prakash conducted a shadow

program on “Understanding Business processes through typical Case

Studies”. This program was delivered based on the take a ways from an

FDP program organized by DoMS, IIT Madras, scheduled from

September 22-26, 2014. Learning outcome of this FDP was that we had

a detailed insight on a systematic process of handling the case

discussion in the class room.

Dr.V.Kannan, Associate Professor, conducted a shadow program on Best Practices for Manufacturing

Excellence, being followed at LMW – Advanced Technology Centre (ATC), Ganapathy, Coimbatore' for

the faculty members of KCT.BS. October 14, 2014

Mr. A. Senthil Kumar, Assistant Professor (SRG) and Dr. Kirupa

Priyadarshini M, Associate Professor, conducted a shadow program on

SPSS Online Training Programme (SOTP) for the KCTBS faculty on

October 14, 2014. The learning and outcome from the program was

presented to the KCT.BS faculty as a part of the Peer Assisted Learning

(PAL).

Mr. V.Kaarthiekheyan, Associate Professor organized and

conducted a shadow programme on "Legal Literacy program

on Cyber Law and Security" on October 28, 2014. The session

broadly covered the aspects of Cyber Security and Cyber

Safety for individuals and organizations.

Professor (SRG); Mr. V.Kaarthiekheyan Associate Professor; Ms.

DeepaM and Ms. Sarasvathi T.A Assistant Professors conducted a

Knowledge & Information Sharing Session

Dr.R.Hemanalini Assistant Professor(SRG) shared knowledge and information on “LIFE COACHING

and PARENTING” during the KISS session on October 14, 2014. 8 faculty members of KCT.BS

participated in the KISS session. It involved good learning

and knowledge sharing with the team.

Sarasvathi.T.A, Assistant Professor-systems, conducted a

knowledge sharing session on "How to write a blog" on

October 16, 2014. Session focused on reasons to start

writing a blog. Advantages of writing a blog. Hands on

training on creating a blog in free blog publishing platform.

CENTRE FOR CORPORATE RELATIONS

An alumni interaction session with Mr.Karthi,

Sr.Analyst of BEROE was organized on October 6, 2014

to interact with students of batch 2013-15 and give

them necessary inputs for the students appearing for

placement during BEROE Drive.

Investiture of Student Association

Student Association Inaugural & investiture 2014-15 was held on October 16, 2014. Mr.Arun Kumar,

Show Producer at Radio City 91.1 fm was the chief guest and he enlightened the office bearers &

students with the speech on “how student should react to the options in the world”. Presidential

address was given by Shri Shankar Vanavarayar Joint Correspondent, KCT. His thoughts were vibrant

and inspiring, he also quoted that “lion grows into the role and it’s not coronated as the king”. The

program ended with an oath taking by the office bearers of 2014-15 led by the CEO of the association

Internal Test for Batch 2013 The II Internal test for Semester III was conducted for II MBA students of batch 2013- 2015 from

October 24 to 30, 2014. A total of 180 students appeared for the internal test. The seating

arrangements and conduct of test was organized by the faculty exam coordinator Mrs. Mohanamani.P,

Assistant Professor assisted by office staffs Mr. Paulraj and Mr. Krishnamoorthy .

Mid Term Test for Batch 2014

The Mid Term Test for Semester I was conducted for I MBA students of batch 2014- 2016 from

October 24 to 31, 2014. A total of 169 students appeared for the Midterm test. The seating

arrangements and conduct of test was organized by the faculty exam coordinator Mrs. Mohanamani.P,

Assistant Professor assisted by office staffs Mr. Paulraj and Mr. Krishnamoorthy .

FORUM / CLUB ACTIVITIES

Marketing

KCT Business School organized JSW ANGADI 2014-

a trade fair organized by the students of Center of

Marketing on October 17 & 18, 2014.

JSW ANGADI 2014 is the third edition of the trade

fair and this year’s theme was ECO_CHIC -

Environment Friendly and Trendy. This is an event

which is ideated, planned and organized by the

MBA students of KCT Business School. Each year

Angadi hones the knowledge and a skill of the

students in three ways – One, it nurtures the

entrepreneurial spirit of the students through

investments and running a small business. Second,

it develops the marketing skills of the students

through positioning their products, understanding

the competition, promotion schemes and pricing.

Thirdly, it advances the event management skills

of the students.

The title sponsor for Angadi 2014 was Jindal Steel

Works (JSW), Co-sponsor was Balamurugan

Bronze Arts Works, Salem, Voucher sponsor was

Mukil’s Donut World and Radio sponsor was

Radio City. There were 31 stalls and 100 plus

products of leather, apparels, handicrafts,

accessories, games and food. Shri. Shankar

Vanavarayar, Joint Correspondent of KCT visited the

stalls and appreciated the students of KCT Business

School for this exuberant venture .The event turned

out to be a great success with more than 6000

footfalls at the exhibition ground. The students of

KCT, Faculty, Administrative staff, IT professionals

from the Tech Park inside the campus visited the

trade fair and made the event a resounding success.

LEAGUES & CLUBS

The leagues & clubs had a very active month. Various activities were organized and conducted by the

students.

COMMUNITY LEAGUE

Be Bothered – Community League of KCT.BS was part of” SWACH BHARAT ABHIYAN” –Clean India

Movement. The first level activity happened with KCT on October 2, 2014 .The continuation of the

activity of cleaning Chinnavedampatti village will be in the month of November 2014.

SPECIAL DAYS at KCT.BS

World Standards Day

As a part of the World Standards Day Celebrations, operations specialisation students of 2013-15

batch visited industries of repute in Coimbatore (Sharp industries, Sakthi Auto Components, Deccan

Industries, Rajtharun Textiles India (p) Ltd,

Valarmathi Hatcheries to name a few) on

October 13, 2014 with an objective to

understand the product / process standards

being adopted by these companies and to

acquire practical insights of the various

standards applicable to the industry.

Students had an opportunity to study standards

like ISO/ DIN/ BIS/ QMS/ EMS being followed

for their product / process and their relevance.

A presentation on the various standards being

followed by the industry visited was made on

October 14, 2014.

The above program was coordinated by

Dr.V.Kannan , Mr.R.Vinayagasundaram, and

Dr.S.Jaisankar, Associate Professors, KCTBS.

World Food Day

October 16, 2014 World food day was celebrated at KCT.BS with the theme “Feeding and Caring“. To

mark this occasion a POT LUCK lunch was organized within our faculty team with all homemade

delicious, healthy and hygienic food .This event was organized by HR Centre faculty team.

PEST Analysis

I & II Batch Students of II MBA have done a PEST analysis as a part of training program. Students have

selected companies such as HUL, PEST analysis P&G, Maruti Suzuki, Micromax and Adidas for their

PEST analysis

Placement Specific Training

Ms.Lakshmi Meera conducted a Short case / situational analysis to the students who were attending

the campus recruitment of Beroe Inc on October 8, 2014,

Regular Training Classes were conducted for I MBA students (batch 2014-16) on Self Management as a

part of Life skill development.
