All RBK institutes are in sync with this vision statement and the same can be witnessed in the culture and pedagogy of these schools. Rupal Kanakia, Director, RBKEI elucidates, “We are committed to holistic development of students. While every school has a different curriculum, underlying principles are same as we do not compromise on them. True test of a school is how it provides overall personality development without ignoring academics. And true reward for a school is that its students not only perform well in their careers but also emerge as wonderful human beings. I believe that we are doing extremely well on these counts, special credit for the same goes to our excellent teaching and support staff.“ A BRIEF LOOK AT THE RBK SCHOOLS: RBK School, Mira Road is affiliated to ICSE and ISC. In the year 2008, it obtained affiliation with the Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) and now offers International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE). School's vision for its children is to develop new learning skills, driven by its credo, 'Knowledge is light. From its inception, the school has grown into a premier institute. School's infrastructure, technology driven pedagogy and focus on sports, performing arts & other co-curricular activities make it a favoured school in Mira Road.

PYP
Gingerbread Cooking Activity
As part of their U.O.I on ‘Stories’, K2 children were made to do a fun activity on the classic fairytale
‘Gingerbread man’. They cut little gingerbread men out from bread slices with cute little cookie cutters and
then decorated them with chocolate sauce and sprinkles. Soon after they were made, the children turned
into foxes and gobbled up their little gingerbread creations!

Today’s day was allotted for visiting a space centre Cité de l'espace at toulouse. We watched a movie
at IMAX where we were shown a very descriptive video about the formation of nebulas and other facts
to add to our knowledge and the planetarium (360° screen and astronomical simulator), so visitors, like
us were no longer spectators of the sky, but actually in space! There were lots of other activities in
simulator mode where we actually had a hand’s on experience of being in Mars, Moon etc.

MYP T he NCO (National Cyber Olympiad) is a global search competition that aims
at identifying and nurturing cyber talent amongst the youngsters. The students from Grades 2 - 12 are eligible for appearing in it. It is conducted in two levels. In the 1st level, there are 15 questions in Section-I (Mental Ability), 15 questions in Section-II (Logical and Analytical Reasoning) and 20 questions in Section-III (Computers and IT). The students are required to answer a total of 50 questions in 60 minutes, with each question carrying one mark and no negative marking for incorrect answers. They are Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) type and the students are required to supply their responses on OMR answer sheets. All the students participating in NCO (1st level) are awarded a 'Cyber Quotient (CQ)', giving their score, school rank, city rank, state rank, international rank and percentile, as well as a 'Certificate of Participation'. SOF also generates a performance report for all participating schools, known as 'School Cyber Quotient (SCQ)'. On the basis of the 1st level exam, a 'School Whiz kid Medal' is awarded to every class topper (two or more divisions together with minimum 10 enrollments in the class concerned) in each participating school. Selected students appear for a 2nd level examination and according to these 2nd level ranks, the prizes are awarded. The criteria for selection to the 2nd level are- the student should have secured International Rank from 1- 500 (both inclusive) and/or State Rank from 1 - 10 (both inclusive) and/or School Rank 1 (where minimum 10 students have appeared) All students participating in NCO (2nd level) are also awarded a 'Certificate of Merit'. The respective school of each student with International Rank from 1 - 3 (both inclusive) is awarded a 'Cyber Intellect Trophy (CIT)' for having the winning students on their rolls. Today, the NCO exam (National Cyber Olympiad) was conducted in our school. Soon after the morning prayers, my class mate, Pavan Radhakrishnan and I were directed to reach Room No.406. With us, our senior Shravya Gowda from Grade 7, joined us to write the examination. It was the first time for me writing an Olympiad Examination and this was indeed was a good experience! The instructions were that we were not supposed to answer the questions on the question paper but to write on a separate sheet given to mark the answers. Also, we were asked to use an HB pencil or a black or blue ballpoint pen. We had one hour to answer all the 50 questions. The questions were not that hard but manageable!

GRADE 10 SPECIAL ASSEMBLY
S tudents from Grades 6 to DP 2 along with our teachers, Coordinators, Vice Principal, Principal and Management Representative were ushered to the
auditorium for the usual weekly assembly program. It all started with Mr. Duke Getonto welcoming us and giving a brief about the events on the agenda. Mardav Gala from DP 2 explained to us about the importance of the upcoming ‘Dandiya Dhamal’ a CAS event to be organized by the DP students.
GRADE 6 held signboards on ESSENTIAL AGREEMENTS as a part of SERVICE as ACTION activity. Ms Meera Rangarjan, Service as Action In- charge explained to the audience about the goal of this task: To make the students understand the concept and use of signboards
To unify the students to work collectively on a single task
To create awareness among the students of other grades
This activity originated from English Literature & Language. While studying the fairy tale, “The Selfish Giant” by Oscar Wilde, the students understood the concept of signboard writing. Having got a clear picture about the importance of writing signboards, they were asked to Design signboards on “Essential Agreements”. Each student before embarking on their selected signboard had to clearly identify an essential agreement which is important for the school community. Then, they went ahead to create their signboards. They proudly held their signboards when their seniors headed to the auditorium for the weekly assembly.

MYP Soon, the prime event began with Grade 10 Aaryan Pandit’s’ outstanding
anchoring from the RBKIA TV Studio. Their theme was focused on Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam’s
well- known quote: “You have to dream before your dreams can come true”.
The welcome dance for Dr. Kalam was choreographed very well. Grade 10Aditya Aiyer transformed himself into
Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. Soon a talk show ‘Koffe with Kalam’ was aired; both Aaryan and ‘Dr Kalam’ discussed a
whole lot of things. The video on Dr. Kalam’s early school days was an eye-opener! Importance of religious
tolerance, caring for others, planting saplings, community & service and team work were certain key words
that, we as students, carried home today. We sang Happy Birthday for Dr. Kalam whose birthday falls on 15
October! Later, after the talk show he was escorted back to the audience. Aaryan and thanked all who put in
their best for this program and signed out.
Mr. Duke called upon our Management Representative, Dr Arundhati Hoskeri and our
Vice Principal Ms. Sagareeka Bhatia to give away the certificates to students who won prizes

2. College Life Workshops by: Dr. Allen Richardson and Jonathan Squire for DP 1 and DP n the Secondary Library.
Today, we were visited by the representatives from the esteemed Cedar Crest College, Pennsylvania. We got
a chance to interact with the faculty of the Cedar Crest College and we had an informative workshop. We
were enthralled by the experiments demonstrated by the Cedar Crest faculty members; learnt a lot about the
threats to the environment, primarily to the marine life; for which we were made to do an experiment too. It
was based on oil spills and we established it using baby oil and water with food coloring. We added a
particular polymer to it which absorbed all the oil and it was riveting! Also, we learnt about oil spills and how
the seas are having higher pH levels than usual. We were demonstrated a perfect experiment, this was more
interactive than the previous ones because we were made to volunteer and do the experiment as an entire
class. It was a remarkable experience and we look forward for such sessions in the future!

WE ARE COMMUNICATORS
O n the 09 Oct 2015, Jahnavi Pandit and I had TRINITY COMMUNICATION EXAMINATION. This is based on
how openly we can communicate with the examiner using formal language in spontaneity! During the
examination, we build different skills. I appeared for Grade 3 communication exam. This time we had to
summarize an article from the newspaper and had to design a chart based on that too! Next, we had to
persuade the examiner, as our friend to go on to a holiday with you!
I thank Ms. Meenaa Sampat, for having guided me throughout the preparation for this task. After
participation, I learnt that coming up with ideas on the spot and to convince the examiner and summarizing
about a particular thing was the focus! I personally enjoyed a lot and this is a very helpful exam it builds one’s
confidence.

Literacy Week Debate - Books or Movie Versions of the Books
L ast week, as a part of the Literacy week celebration, the students of IBDP took part
in a lively and hotly contested debate. The topic of the debate was "What has better impact– A book
or a film based on the same book" The students were divided into two groups of six. The two teams were
made up of "students who prefer books" and the other one was "students who prefer movies over books".
During the debate, each student was given 90 seconds to put forward the desired points according to the
allotted team. The judges for the debate were Ms. Meera and Dr. Arundhati Hoskeri. After the completion of
the debate, the judges were of the opinion that the points put forward by the team which prefers books was
very well organized and framed which convinced them to a certain extent. The audience was also allowed in
the end to give their opinion to show which team they support with a valid reason. Overall, everyone enjoyed

Improving Learning in IB: Business Management activity in DP
L ast week, the DP -2 business students took part in an activity known as
'Flipped Classroom'. We were divided into two groups: girls and boys. The boys taught us chapter
4.7 which is International Marketing and the girls taught chapter 4.8 which is E-commerce. The sections of
the chapter were divided among the members of the team. We covered the various concepts of the chapter
using examples from our daily lives. After both the groups were done with the presentations, each group
prepared a task for the other group based on their topic. After the other group completed with their task
they submitted it for correction. Ms Kinnari provided us with a task based on both the chapters. This activity
was a lot of fun and I learnt a lot from it. It was a new experience teaching the class and preparing a task for
them. This improved our communication skills.

us with the university admission process. We had an interactive session wherein she told us what needs to be
done from our side to build up a strong profile for our university applications. Since we were a small lot, she
discussed with each of us what our statement of purpose (SOP) should include and how it could be developed
further. She pointed out the difference between UK, US and Canada application requirements and also what the
SOP’s should include for specific countries. She told us how we can connect our strengths with the courses we
want to choose. This was a very informative session as she enlightened us about the pertinent points we should
