POTE’S NOTES Nobles and Ladies:

The year is coming to an end and Pam and I are so grate-

ful to have been part of this year at Moila. We want to

thank each and every one of you for being part of this

Great Organization. By the time this article reaches you

we will have taken in 22 new Nobles for the year, which is

what Imperial asked of us. I want to thank Ill. Sir Dave

Ingersoll, the Ritual Cast, and the Wrecking Crew for all

of the hard work involved in making this all come togeth-

er. Now we have to work on Retention, and Reinstate-

ment which will keep us strong for the future. A big Thank You goes to Noble Charles

Baskins who helps us in so many ways “behind the scenes” with membership and is truly

appreciated. Please continue talking to people and promote what we do. It’s a great way

to get new members and possibly help someone that needs our Hospitals.

I feel compelled to inform you about a very difficult decision that the Board had to make

this month. As we are working on budgets for next year, the difficult decision was made

that we could no longer afford to fund the Needles Ladies. This was a $5400.00 yearly

expense we simply can no longer justify, but it was voted on to let them keep the sewing

machines and supplies so they could continue working together and doing what they love.

If anyone has questions please ask a Board Member or the Administrator and they will

give you the facts behind this.

If you drive by the Temple you can see that the flagpole has been lowered and is now

more manageable. LOH Commander John Hammer helped acquire bids and the services

of a local sign company to complete this task. It has been repainted and a new finial was

installed as well, and we are in the process of getting the lighting operational. Thank you

John for helping us with this.

The Sportsman Event has come and gone and there were a lot of happy faces that day.

Thank you to Ill. Sir Dave Brown for chairing this event and Ill. Sir Mark Crawford and No-

ble Paul Jewett for everything they did to make this successful. Lots of planning is going

on to make this even better for next year so stay tuned, Get your tickets early and get

them out to the public- they literally will sell themselves.

The Trunk or Treat was another successful event and I would like to thank the units and

guests that made this a fun evening for the little and BIG kids. The Gold Wings cooked hot

dogs and a big thanks goes out to them for all they did.

Thank you Nobles for the trust you had in me and the Divan for this year. Next year is

looking to be another great year and Moila is blessed to have such a dedicated group of

people to lead us into the future.

Yours in the Faith, Ill. Mark Young “Making Dreams Come True Since 1922”

FROM YOUR CHIEF RABBAN Dear Nobles and Ladies:

I can't believe how fast this year has gone by. We are nearing the end of the parade schedule with three left in November at Chillicothe, Gallatin and Cameron, and one in December in Smithville. I want to thank all of the unit members who have paraded this year and hope we can get more going for next year.

We had a great turnout for the Trunk or Treat Halloween function. Thanks to all who participated with your trunks and treats. Also a big thank you to the Gold Wings group for cooking hot dogs for this event. Prepare for next year as we will do this again.

We just finished our Fall Ceremonial and took in 5 new nobles. It went very well and I want to thank everyone who helped out. I would like to start on membership now for next year and get your new members in the works at the lodges for the Spring Ceremonial.

Please remember the Ladies luncheon on Dec 7th and the Children's Christmas Party on Dec. 14th.

I would like to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving and a Merry Christmas.

Yours in the faith, Ill. Sir Dan Baker

2019 PARADE LIST

From Your High Priest and Prophet Nobles All,

Since my last note to you, Moila Shriners have come together to have two great events. The first one was the Trunk or Treat event. There was great participation of units, masonic lodges, and Divan members. We even had participation from the St. Joseph Police Department. The kids enjoyed all types of themes from each Trunk. By my count we had over 90 kids stop. There were free hot dogs, chips, and drinks. The second event was the Fall Ceremonial. Again, there was great participation of units, clubs, and the Divan putting up and taking down of the props. It is a great feeling being part of and helping with the ceremonial event. I heard nothing but good comments about the event. Thanks to all of those who participated in making these two events great! Lady Karen and I had the opportunity on November 9th to attend the Potentate’s Ball at Sesostris Shrine in Lincoln, NE. We were well received and enjoyed a great time with our counterparts from three different Shrine Temples. This event for Illustrious Sir Richard Eggerling and his Lady Nancy was attended by Ladies of the Nile from California and Canada.

Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star "I think now that I'm older, I find a lot of symbolism in that song/rhyme. I'm a constant believer that there are greater, unexplainable powers responsible for the things that we do, and the things that are done to us, in life. 'Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star' speaks volumes to that. Stars aren't always visible, and even at nighttime, when they are, people don't always take the time to notice them. It 's a lot like when good and bad things happen to us in life. We don't always take the time to notice, but really exciting or really detrimental situa-tions show us that things always happen for a reason: Just like the stars, you need to take the time to notice them." FROM THE RECORDER Greetings from the Recorder: I recently had the opportunity to attend the Shriners International Membership Seminar in Tampa, Florida. As with most fraternal organizations, membership in Shriners International continues to go down. Our membership at Moila mirrors what is happening at the International level. The Membership Campaign for 2019-2020 is “Just One”. The premise is that if each Shriner gets just one candidate, we can change the downward trend of our Membership. It seems simple, but we need every Noble to be part of the solution. WILL YOU HELP??? Since you have to be a Mason before you can become a Shriner, I think the first step is to get back to our Lodges and support their activities. How long has it been since you attended Lodge? How about a resolution for 2020? Go to Lodge!! WILL YOU???? Wylene and I wish you and your family a blessed Holiday Season and a Happy New Year. Yours in the Faith, Ill. Ken Dunlap

FROM THE ORIENTAL GUIDE Greetings Nobles, It’s hard to believe that it is already November and 2019 is rapidly coming to an end with 2020 just around the corner. I have to say this has been a whirlwind of a year for me. As your Oriental Guide I have experienced and learned so much about our great fra-ternity. I have had the opportunity to meet so many fantastic brothers and their ladies from across our great nation and some of na-tional ambassadors. I recently had the opportunity to attend the Isis Shriners Potentate’s Ball which was a truly great time. Their Po-tentate, Illustrious Sir Russ Ingle, is a long time and very good friend of mine, whom I had the opportunity to serve with while in the U.S. Air Force stationed in Minot N.D. It has truly been an incredible experience and I would like to thank you for allowing me this opportunity. We have had a very good year at Moila as we have brought in several new Nobles and several more restored to good standing. I would like to thank Illustrious Sir Dave Ingersoll and the ritual team for the great job with both of our ceremonials this year. And a big shout out and thank you to the Wrecking Crew for all their hard work in helping bring it all together. I would personally like to thank everyone for all their hard work and dedication to keeping our mission alive--helping our children have a better life through the amaz-ing care they receive at our hospitals. We have seen the return of one of my favorite childhood memories--that of our annual fireworks display! We have also changed some of our annual events and updated them to hopefully renew some interest and increase the participation of our members. We have, with the help of Commander Hammer and the Legion of Honor, restored our flagpole and are once again proudly flying our nation’s colors for all to see. Speaking of the Legion of Honor, I would like to extend a huge thank you to all of our nation’s veterans for all of their dedication and sacrifices they have made over the years, and wish each and everyone one of you a Happy Veteran’s Day. May God continue to watch over and protect our brave servicemen and women and bring them home safely. Lady Heather and her committee have been working very hard to put together a good and fun program for the Ladies Christmas Luncheon on December 7th. Lady Heather is asking everyone to please bring a toy for the children’s toy drive for the St. Louis Hos-pital. For each toy donated you will receive a ticket for the raffle that will be held at the luncheon. This is open to all Shrine Ladies and their guests. Please contact the Temple office and speak with Brenda or Shari or call Lady Heather at 816-390-6707 to purchase your tickets. I would like to remind everyone that on Wednesday, December 11th we will hold our annual election of officers and encourage everyone to come and cast their ballot, be sure to bring your current dues card and your fez to be admitted to the meeting. In closing, I would like to thank each and every one who helped make this year a success, and to those helped who me on my journey as your Oriental Guide, I appreciate all of your assistance, advice and patience. I look forward to continuing to work with you in any capacity that the membership may need me. Once again, it has been my great pleasure and privilege to serve you all this past year and thank you all for the trust you have placed in me. May God bless you and your loved ones with a Happy Thanksgiving, a Merry Christmas and a Happy and prosperous New Year. God Bless our Great Fraternity and God Bless the United States of America! Yours in the faith, Douglas D. Plowman

Ole Tymers News Greetings All, Where has this year gone? Seems like it has flown by, now knocking on "Old Man Winter's" door! Has not been a lot of activity since the first of Sept. We had three cars participate in the Edgerton Parade, while the Southside & Weston Parade turned out to be rain-outs. We did participate in the Moila Trunk or Treat. Leland Daise & Lady Sue displayed their 1941 Buick coupe with a 30/40's dress-up attire. You guys looked GREAT!! We had a good turn-out of little tick & treater's.

We continue to have a good turn-out @ our monthly breakfast @ LePeeps. Always the last Monday of the month, unless falling on a holiday. Our Ladies are looking forward to the annual Moila Ladies Christmas Luncheon, on Dec. 7th. Our annual Unit Christmas Dinner will be held Dec. 13th. @ the Benton Club. We will be participating in the annual Children's Christmas Party, Dec. 14th.

Our Unit Officers, for next year are: Director Bob Nichols (last year), Secretary/Treasurer: Kim Evans, & Historian, Jerry Thornton. Bob will contin-ue to cover reporter.

Fellows & Ladies, we have lost three parade cars, this year! We really need to try & recruit some of our fellow Shriners & Ladies, to join our Unit. Members only have to have a 1994 or older vehicle. There are a lot of people with old cars, out there. We just need to talk up our Unit, to them!!

Due to the Festival of Trees being cancelled, the fund raising for the Children's Hospital Toy Drive, has lost a lot of ground. Our Unit is making a

donation to the Toy Drive. Our Unit challenges all other Units to do the same!!

As far as our members: Jerry Thornton has had surgery & continues to recuperate, but is doing well. Several of our Ladies have had health issues, this year. Sue Long, Dee Frye, Lola Hansen, Donna Imlay (& Terry too.), & Margie Pohl. Please keep all these folks in your thoughts and prayers!!

We hope all, have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy & Healthy New Years!!

Yours in the Faith, Bob Nichols

LEGION OF HONOR Happy Holidays from the Moila Legion of Honor. Our December meeting will be on December 7, 2019 at the Scottish Rite of St. Joseph. We will have a Christmas party, with happy hour beginning at 5:00 p.m., followed by a turkey and ham dinner. All nobles and their ladies are invited. Please respond to John Hammer at 351-6329 by December 5th with reservations. I would like to wish all Shriners a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Meetings for the first half of 2020 will be scheduled as follows: January 23rd Installation of New Officers February 27th Meeting March 28th Dinner April 23rd Meeting May 28th Meeting June 25th Meeting In 2020, ladies will be welcome at all meetings. Our 2020 Officers will be: Floyd McElwain, Commander, Ryan Gerster, 1st Vice and Russell Hollowell, 2nd Vice.

From the Assistant Rabban I hope this article finds each and every one of you happy, healthy and enjoying life. The clocks have changed and we have jumped into a winter season it feels almost immediately. There have been many events over the past month that I hope you have enjoyed or have participated in. Let’s begin with the great Sportsman’s Event and a packed ballroom. The door prizes were given away and everyone had a great time. If you missed it put, it on your calendar for next year. We also had a new event in October with the Trunk or Treat. This is a great opportunity to connect with the community and have a little fun. I would like to congratulate the new members who joined at the Ceremonial on November 1st. We have brought over 20 new members into Moila this year. Please make these new members and their ladies feel welcome to the events they attend, and if you were a first line signer, please invite them to a meeting and get them involved with a club or unit. The time change and the weather getting cooler remind me that we are quickly closing out the year of 2019. What a year! There have been some really high points and some not so high points, but Holly and I have made some fantastic friends this year and we really look forward to watching Moila grow in the future. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to reach out to a member of the Divan or the office staff and we will be happy to assist. Happy Holidays! Yours in the faith, Dan Smothers, Assistant Rabban “Elevated to a higher Dignity and Honor”

Shriners Hospitals for Children establishes new genomics institute to advance precision medicine in partnership with Genome Medical

Shriners Hospitals and leading telegenomics provider team up to return actionable genetic findings for pediatric patients

Wednesday, October 30, 2019 Shriners Hospitals for Children is teaming up with Genome Medical to ensure that pediatric patients and families receiving next generation DNA sequencing through the new Genomics Institute at Shriners Hospitals will have access to the highest standard of genetic services through Genome Medical's nationwide network of clinical genetic specialists. Together, Shriners Hospitals for Children and Genome Medical will be taking pediatric genetic research to a personalized, patient-centric level that will lead to more individualized treatment options and improved outcomes.

The Shriners Hospitals for Children health care system will offer genetic sequencing to patients at its 22 hospitals and outpatient locations in North America and from its international network of outreach clinics. For some patients, the sequencing will reveal genetic variations in the most medical-ly actionable genes. These patients and their caregivers will be connected to Genome Medical to receive support and clinical guidance from its team of genetic counselors and medical geneticists, who specialize in pediatric conditions. This may include virtual genetic counseling, arranging confirmatory genetic testing for the patient, referrals to appropriate medical specialists for follow-on care and coordinating genetic testing of family members when recommended.

"Through sophisticated, next generation sequencing of DNA samples from our patient population, Shriners Hospitals hopes to gain the understand-ing needed to create more targeted, efficient and personalized treatments and therapies," said Marc Lalande, Ph.D., vice president of research programs for Shriners Hospitals for Children. "We are proud to be at the forefront of this next major step toward bringing new hope and healing to children and families the world over."

This genetics-based approach to medical care – precision medicine – is more than a hope, or a dream. It is becoming a reality, and one day will even be the standard. With the establishment of its Genomics Institute in Tampa, Florida, Shriners Hospitals for Children has taken a major step toward this goal of understanding the specific – and individual – genetic causes of various conditions and disabilities, such as cerebral palsy, cleft lip and palate, clubfoot, scoliosis and osteogenesis imperfecta.

Finding answers and improving care

Shriners Hospitals for Children performs and supports clinical and bench research in its network of hospitals and laboratories to understand the complex conditions it treats, to evaluate the efficacy of its clinical practices, and to enable the discovery of new and improved treatments for chil-dren all over the world.

With the introduction of the Shriners Hospitals for Children Genomics Institute, the organization is enhancing its capabilities and commitment to personalize pediatric care. It hopes to help patients through the discovery of new genetic causes for the diseases and conditions with which they are coping to create more targeted, efficient and personalized (tailored) therapies.

Genome Medical is dedicated to accelerating the integration of genomic-based medicine into health care for patients all across the United States. For both individuals and organizations like Shriners Hospitals for Children, Genome Medical's clinical team navigates the rapidly expanding field of genetics and utilizes test results to understand the risk for disease, accelerate disease diagnosis, make informed treatment decisions and lower the cost of care.

The Moila Shriners are proud to announce that the 2019 Walk for Love netted $2085.00 for Shriners Hospitals for Children. $2010.00 of that was kept at Moila in the Moila Transportation Fund and $75.00 was forwarded to the Shriners Hospital for Children in St. Louis. Thank you to this year’s

Walk for Love Chairman, Noble Kim Evans.

With $1815.00 in 2016, $2705.00 in 2017, $3165.01 in 2018 and $2085.00 this year, the Walk for Love has now contributed $ 9770.01 to Shriners Hospitals for Children and the Moila Transporta-

tion Fund. Thank you for your support of this very worthy activity and we hope to see you at the 2020 Walk for Love.

Greetings from the Treasurer

As I sit and write this today it is snowing outside--I guess winter is finally here? As much as I don’t like the cold as much

as I used to, I always look forward to the Holiday season. Spending time with family and friends is one of the most im-

portant things this time of year. It’s always nice to sit back and think about what we have accomplished over the last year

and what we plan to do next year.

Merry Christmas! And Happy New Year. H2, Treasurer

EL KADIR PRESIDENT’S CORNER

As the calendar turns to November, it’s hard to believe the holidays are just about on us. It looks like it will be an active fall

season.

The main event of course is the Jewels Bazaar and Luncheon. It is always a great event. We will need volunteers to help

out; so come on in.

November also means we salute our

Veterans on November 11. If you know a Veteran, a simple THANK YOU goes a long way.

Bingo continues to do good. Thanks to all those who help out. Come out to your Club when you can. It’s a great place to

slow down and enjoy a night out.
