This year the Complex celebrated St. Simon Complex Day cum Harvest Festival at the hall of SRS Datuk Simon Fung on Thursday, the 28th of May.

The yearly celebration began with a Eucharistic Celebration at 8:30 am followed by the Harvest Festival Celebration at 10:30 am. Archbishop John Wong officiated the Harvest Festival Celebration.

Sharifah Chin of 2 Love was crowned the 2015 MN Unduk Ngadau after beating 11 other contestants. Congratulations Sharifah.

A big thank you to our MN Dance team for the graceful and entertaining dance. Not forgetting the MN Gong team for beating the gongs in such a rhythmic fashion. Your perform-ances reflected your full commitment and long hours of prac-tice.

Wearing of traditional costumes among teachers and students and the presence of parents made the celebration more meaningful and enjoyable.

Guests, teachers and staff had the opportunity to catch up with each other as they sampled some appetizing traditional food during lunch.

On  Monday,  the  29th  of  June  2015,  the  Prefectorial  Board  joined  force with the Student Council to organise the annual Teachers’ Day celebration during assembly.  Since it was Ramadan, to respect all our Muslim teach‐ers  and  students, we decided  to have a  simple  and yet meaningful  cere‐mony  for  our  beloved  teachers  whom  we  wanted  to  show  our  sincere gratitude and honour to.

The celebration started with the teachers’ grand entrance. The singing of the  National  Anthem,  State  Anthem,  recitation  of  the  Morning Prayer,  Ikrar Negara  and  School  Vision  and Mission  took  place  as  usual. The teachers recited the Teachers’ Oath led by our Principal, Mr. Alexan‐der Funk.

On behalf of all the students, the Head Prefect and Student Council Presi‐dent  took  turned  to  deliver  speeches  expressing  our  appreciation  to  all teachers.    Each  teacher  was  given  a  gift  prepared  by  the  Art  Club  and Christian Fellowship.

The ceremony ended with a finale song “In This Monet” and the singing of the School Rally.  The teachers paraded back while being looked on by the students.

The whole ceremony started at 7:15 am and ended at 8:05 am.

On behalf of all the students, I would like to extend our sincere gratitude to all the teachers who have made endless sacrifices to educate us.  Thank you and Happy Teacher’s Day!  Education is the key to success in life, and teachers make a lasting impact

in the lives of their students.

art from the traditional per-formances of Hari Raya songs, prizes were given for the best dressed couple in traditional Hari Raya attire.

It has always been the school’s stance that any festival or cele-bration of a particular ethnic group in the school will be cele-brated in the spirit of togetherness.

On August 14, 2015, our school celebrated Hari Raya. The event enabled the school community to have a better under-standing of each other’s religious beliefs, traditions and cus-toms apart from allowing the practice of “asking for forgive-ness” and the strengthening of ties amongst the teachers, staff and students of the school.

As often done, the celebration began with teachers proceeding to the stage followed with a Hari Raya song dedicated to all guests and students. Then, the other items such as Hari Raya Quizzes, singing performances and games took place accord-ingly. Wearing samping and “taste and tell Malay cookies” were the two favorite competitions that day.

Duit Raya were given to Amzu Aqilla of 2 Grace for winning the Best Dressed Male and to Michelle Ting of 5 Truth for winning the Best Dressed Female.

A week before the celebration, students had worked together to decorate their classrooms for competition. They worked so hard that one could feel the Hari Raya mood upon entering their classrooms. The Best Decorated class-room was Form 3 Hope.

An Open House invites from each classroom marked the grand finale of the celebration. Everyone did enjoy a wide array of delicious festive food, cakes and drinks.

We wanted so badly to win first place but this was the year St. Francis Convent beat us as they were awarded first  place  and we,  second place. With  strong  resolu‐tion,  we  are  now  more  determined  to  compete  and win first place in next year’s Institut Sinaran “YB, We Have Something to Tell You” Essay and Public Speak‐ing Competition.   If you have a specific local environmental concern and would  like  us  to  consider  using  it  as  our  topic  of choice  for  next  year’s  Institut  Sinaran  “Environment Day”, please let Teacher Normala know.  TeacherTrainer Normala A. Hasbollah

This year, Maktab Nasional decided to have MN Got Talent instead of MN Talentime following the trend of the world. The main purpose was to give opportunity to all stu-dents to participate in the competition regardless of whether they are talented musically or in other areas. However, they have to go through an audition before they be granted an entry into the competition.

The 2015 MN Got Talent was held at Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka at Likas on August 22, 2015. The guest of honour was Encik Mohd Yunus Hamid.

The team of judges were Mr. Appy Tots, Mr. Jay Roy W. Anggang and Ms. Cindy Gadalon. The organisers wish to thank them for their constructive criticisms and advice in sharing some useful tips to all the participants.

The winners were as followed: Most Promising Performance : Labande Acustica Best Dress : Serafina Chong Jury’s Choice : Kimberly Lim Most Entertaining Performance : Alpha Omega Champions Among Champions : Alpha Omega

All the awards were 50% votes from the audience and another 50% came from the judges except for the Jury’s Choice which 100% from the judges.

Congratulations to all winners! To those who did not manage to receive any award, do continue polishing your talents and see you again next year.
