Seeds, Lino Print by Aunty Kath Withers, 2012, is about
regeneration and growth through turbulence and trial,
and making the time to sow and grow something new.
Our Service
The MLHD Counselling Service is staffed by
experienced psychologists, social workers and
counsellors.
Individual counselling sessions are available by
appointment only and usually last for one hour.
Counselling is provided free of charge and is
confidential.
Some problems are complex and we may need to
speak with others involved in your care. We will
consult you about this. Similarly, sometimes we
may need to request assistance from other
services to help make you safer.

For Priority Populations
Do I need counselling?
There are situations that are really hard to deal
with and can leave us feeling overwhelmed and
unsupported.
You may feel like you are losing your confidence
and you may feel that you are not important or
worthless. You may feel highly distressed,
helpless or vulnerable.
For some, there may be new and worrying
symptoms or it may be a worsening of symptoms
that have been around for a while.
Counselling with a skilled and trained
professional can help you work through issues
that are negatively impacting your life.
MLHD understands that psychological wellbeing
is an important part of good health and we can
help with counselling for specific problems.

Who do we see?
Our service focuses on offering counselling for
those with specific counselling needs.
We provide counselling for those dealing with
experiences of domestic violence, past or present.
We provide counselling for those with
psychological difficulties associated with
complex and ongoing health care conditions.
You can also phone and refer yourself for
counselling if you are linked with the NSW
Health SafeStart program for new parents; have
an eating disorder or if you are experiencing
psychological difficulties as a result of
interpersonal trauma.
We are not able to provide counselling for
perpetrators of sexual and/or domestic violence;
relationships and couples counselling; risk
management for clients at risk of suicide or non-
suicidal self-injury; court reports.
Our service is confidential,
free of charge & professional.
Referral
You can refer yourself by calling one of the
numbers on the back of this brochure.
Your GP or another agency may also make a
referral but a Mental Health Shared Care plan is
not required.
If someone else refers you, you will always be
contacted to discuss your needs and to provide
your consent for referral
We will ask if you identify as Aboriginal and the
Aboriginal Health Unit are available for support
if needed.
If language is a barrier, then we can engage an
interpreter so that you can access counselling.
A safe and private space
We believe that in order to get the most from a
counselling intervention you need to feel
comfortable, safe and supported by the service.
Confidentiality
Information about you is confidential and will
not be given to anyone unless you have given
permission or if there are exceptional
circumstances such as issues of safety or if it is
required by law.
