Minutes of WASPaLM New Bureau Meeting

Quebec City, Canada June 10, 2013

(1) Dr. Lai Meng Looi called the meeting to order and the agenda was reviewed. The agenda had been accepted and Dr. Lai Meng Looi welcomed everyone. There was discussion regarding the reorganizing the Secretariats and the Committees. The goal was to do away with the Secretariats. There was no mention in the bylaws about the Secretariats and / or their mode of representation or activities. Instead the bylaws mention Committees of the Association and Committees of the Bureau.

Committee Action Item #4: Update the one page brochure to be handed to potential sponsors. Action Item #5: Dr. Travers will try and find the template of the WASPaLM brochure Action Item #6: Dr. Butany to create draft of new brochure, if necessary. Timeline: 2 months Action Item #7: Guidelines to be drawn up for World Congresses - Dr. Roberto Ruiz-Arenas Action Item #8: Adminstrator to be set up for WASPaLM Action Item #9: Set up the terms of reference of all Committees – Dr Looi & Committee Chairs

(3) Other matters: 2017 World Congress: Dr. Lia Partakusuma said that the Indonesian Society of Clinical Pathologists was interested in hosting the WASPaLM World Congress 2017. The National Congress generally has about 600 people attending. The language of the Congress is bilingual. Dr. Michael Oellerich has attended a previous meeting - it is well organized and well run. Time of year: Usually October.

Dr. Musami Murakami pointed out that the last World Congress held in Japan was in 1983 - the 12th World Congress. The Japanese Corporate Sponsors would be happy to have a World Congress in Japan. Possible location: Kyoto. Timing: October / November There has a letter of interest filed by the Romanian Society of Pathologists but there has been no follow up on this. This matter will be discussed at the next Bureau Skype meeting after more detailed proposals are received. Action #11: Dr. Travers and Dr. Butany need to write the guidelines for the World Congress The next Skype meeting of the Bureau will likely be held on 7th July 2013 at 2:00 pm CET.
