His Worship the Mayor,(Alde r man F.B. Roberts) , and Aldermen Goddard , Solomon,Delve , Ryan ,

Pawley, Bugler, Dunn, NeWnham, Dunshea , and Fleming •

An Apology was received and accepted from Alderman Stocks . \

Each member of the Council having received a copy of the Minutes of the previous Meeting, Alderman Pawley move d that the Minutes be taken as read, and confirmed , and signed. Seconded by Alderman Solomon. Ald . Bugler mentioned that his objection to the 1linutes of the Meeting held on the 1st i nst ., had not been recorded , when the Town Clerk sugge sted to place the words "Proposed to Move'! in lieu of "Moved", before the notices of motion placed on the Business Paper for that date by Alderman Dunshea , and himself, and further the report of the Deputation arranged by the Gle be Council on the 15th inst., would be more correctly stated as follows;-

"On Tuesday the 15th March, the Mayor , (Alderman F.B. Roberts} , and Alderman Bugler, at tended Parliament House·, to represent Council at a Deputation to the Hon. w. Davies,- Minister~ for Educati on , to support the Glebe Council in its efforts to have the services of married teachers {who' have husbands in good positi ons ), dispensed with. ·

There was a large attendance of different Councils represented ; The Glebe Representatives outlining the case first, and in turn most of t he other· Representatives spoke. The Minister gave a very attentive hear ing , and said that the Deputation had his support in every respect, and he further i nformed the Deputation that he had the necessary Legislation ready , but owing to the l ack of finance he could not proceed with same. The Minister said that this Deputation would strengthen his hand~with Cabinet, and as sooh as finances would al low it, he would endeavour to induce Cabinet to meet the re ~uest of the Deputation . The matter of finance is a.bi g considera tion, as all married teachers are permanent , and would have to be compensated. This is the only sec tion of the Public Servi ce where married women are made permanent. ~

When it was suggested to the Minister that in future where a teacher is married~ in the service, the Act should be altered so that it would not be necessary to make the appointment permanent. This , he assured the Deputation ,he would do immediately after the Easter Holidays .

Another ~uesti on was asked of the Ministe-r , i.e ., "Would he release Bondsmen for teachers whom his Department could not place in positions" , and he assured the Deputation that this had already been granted.

The Minister thanked the Deputation for their help in the matter , and said he was very grateful to the Glebe, and other Councils , for taking the matter up. 11 ·

His 1fforship the Mayor said he would have the information furnished embodied in the Minutes , and with these al tera ti ons, the motion was declared "Carried" •

.Alderman Delve referred in feeling terms to the death of William H. Crago Es~ •• J.P., of Bathurst, an elder Brother of F.A. Crago of the Firm of F. Crago & Sons , who are held in such high esteem for their many generous , patriotic, and charitable acts, and moved that a le tter be sent to F.A. Crago E s~ •• and family, expressing this Council 's deepest sympathy in their sad bereavement. Seconded by Alderman Go ddard, and carried unamimously by the members of the Council rising in silence •
