Each member of the Council having received a copy of the minutes of the meeting held on 23rd October, 1945, it was resolved that the Minutes as circulated be taken as read and confirmed a nd signed as a true record of the Ordinary Meeting held on 23rd October, 1945.

SYMPATHY:

Feel ing references having been made bv the Mayor and Aldermen it was resolved by the Members rising in silence that letters of sympa thy be forwarded - to the Wife and family of the late Vincent P.Laurence of Laurence and Company, Newtown, to the relatives of the late Mr.Cross, Dentist, of Enmore Road, and to Mr.Pearson of 91 Burren Street on the loss of his Vfife.

REPORTS:

The Engineer submi t ted a report of works progress during t he past two weeks and it was resolved t hat the Engineer' s r eport be received and adopted.

The Chief Health Inspector submitted his report in accordance with Folios 48 and 49 of the Inspector's Report Book and it was resolved that the Chief Health Inspector's report be received and considered seriatim. Upon paragraph No.4. being submitted it was moved by Al derman Pawley seconded by Alderman Brannan: "THAT the paragraph be received and the Council call in the services of a consulting Engineer to inspect the generator tubes in the Council's Incinerator plant." Carried. After further consideration the Chief Health Inspector's report

• with the addition of the foregoing motion was adopted •

The Building Inspector submit ted an application for permission to partly enclose verandah in fibro at 2? Charles Street. Resolved: "THAT the application be approved".

His orship the Mayor (Alderman Mr. s .. Fleming) submitted a verbal report from the Newtown . Patriotic and War Fund which had unanimously decided that the second ambulance in the National!

Emer gency Services sho ld be donated to the nti-T.B. Association. Alderman Pawley reported that the lady workers of the Newtown-Enmore Services who had also raised funds to purchase this ambulance had all decided in the same way and it was resolved: "THAT the Council endorse the donation of this ambulance to the Anti-T.B.Association, and His Worship the Mayor and the Town Clerk be authorised to arrange a public presentation of the ambulance at the earliest possible date".

QUESTTONS WITHOUT NOTICE:

Alderman Portus asked if street name plate could be erected at Ferndale and Camden Streets •

Alderman Bugler drew attention to the very satisfactory street name plates used 1in the Blue Mountains, which appeared to have the lettering burnt into the wood with black and orange paint­ing. The Mayor said he would have investigations made into the idea of using similar signs in this Municipality.

U~lER RE P~~ J~derman Bugler asked if any reports had yet been received on the petrol consumption of the ~ED 1 ·uTOR LO~ , motor lorries. The Engineer replied that two had been checked and the third one had not yet

been done.

Alderman Elvy drew a t tention to the doors being broken on the air raid shelter in Pernell Street Rand the objectionable practices going on in the shelter. The Mayor promised to give the matter attention.

Al derman 'Jright, M.L.C. asked if the Mayor had done anything in connection with alleviating the trouble from the metal top dressing on the roads. The Mayor replied he had discussed the matter with the Engineer.
