General information For members & Club by-laws

The spirit and image of our golf club is projected by our members showing respect, courtesy and consideration to fellow golfers and Wairakei staff at all times. These factors should extend also to dress and conduct both on the course and in the clubhouse.

Members who nominate new members and juniors are responsible for their conduct on the course and in the clubhouse. The committee reserves the right to rescind a membership if gross negligence of these rules occurs.

standard of DressMembers must adhere to the following dress standard:A neat and tidy standard of dress at all times. No denim or track pants. No jandals or boots. No t-shirts or singlets.

Check inMembers must always report to the Pro Shop prior to teeing off for all social play. This ensures the staff are aware of all people on the golf course at any given time. Players must always start on the 1st tee unless they have permission from the Pro Shop to start on the 10th tee.

entrance GatesThe closing time of the gates differs seasonally. During the winter months it is approximately 5pm and during daylight saving this is approximately 7pm but please check with the Pro Shop before teeing off.

Clubhouse/sprig bar Due to Health Department regulations, members nor the public are permitted behind the counter area of the bar or the café at any time. The Clubhouse, Sprig Bar and all other buildings are smokefree, smoking will not be permitted inside at any time.

Practice areasMembers can use the driving range, chipping area and putting green at any time the course is open. Excessive practice will not be tolerated and the management reserve the right to remove members who abuse this privilege . If you wish to use the covered bays you must check with the Pro Shop.

restricted areasThe cart shed, greenkeepers sheds, all private lodges and the helipad are strictly off limits to members and the public.

member ConcernsWhen a member has a concern with anything that occurs on the grounds of the course, they must advise a member of the committee who will then decide on the correct course of action. If the matter needs to be raised with the operations manager, then the committee will do so. It is not acceptable for members to take concerns directly to the manager or course staff.

mobile PhonesPlease keep your mobile phones turned off or on silent ring whilst on the golf course.

emergenciesIn case of emergencies, the toilets between the 3rd fairway and 6th green and the 13th and 16th green, each have an emergency button which, when activated, will set off an alarm in the Pro Shop.

subscriptionsPlease pay your subscriptions by the due date, this being the 20th March. Failure to do this may lead to cancellation of your membership. Members are reminded that written notice must be given to the Manager before 20th March should a member wish to resign his membership.

Course etiquette and slow Play bunkers - Please rake all bunkers to remove indentations after your shot and leave the rakes pointing towards the green with the handles out.

Green Care - Do not walk on your opponents line on the putting green and repair any pitch marks before leaving the green.

Golf Carts - Please observe the 90 degree rule and not drive on the fairways when it is deemed ‘Cart paths only’

Trundlers - Bridges are now in place over the water hazard surrounding the 4th green, so please use them rather than pushing trundlers through the water which damages the liners.Always park your trundle adjacent to the green and next tee, never in front of the green.

7th, 16th & 17th Tees - Please take extra care when teeing off. Wait until you can see the group in front of you are out of range.

The following are a few suggestions to overcome slow play.be on time. Make sure you tee off at the time given to you by the Pro Shop. There are nine minute intervals between each tee time and a clock on the range, should you be unsure of the correct time.

Delays in locating a lost ball. If, after a reasonable period of time, it is apparent you are holding up play, call the next group through.

on the putting green. Study the line of your putt immediately and whenever possible, putt out. Marking the ball is sometimes necessary, but not always.

if you have lost ground. Two players putt out and move to the next tee and tee off.

always mark your card while waiting your turn on the tee.

General behaviour. Loss of temper, verbal abuse of officials or players, deliberately distracting opponents, throwing of clubs and shouting are not acceptable and will not be tolerated.

local rules as set by Wairakei Golf & sanctuaryTo be read in conjunction with the rules of golf. Penalty for breach of Local Rules in Strokeplay = 2 shots and in Matchplay, loss of hole.Local rules as made by Wairakei Golf and Sanctuary are printed on the back of the score cards and, as printed from time to time, on the front middle of the score cards.

Distance measuring Devices (DmD)For play on this course, a player may obtain distance information by using a device that measures distance only. However, if during a stipulated round, a player uses a DMD that is designed to gauge or measure other conditions that might affect his play (e.g. gradient, wind speed, temperature etc), the player is in breach of Rule 14-3, for which the penalty is disqualification, regardless of whether any such additional functions are actually used.

Deer Prints in bunkersRelief from animal hoof or footprints in bunkers is not one of the permitted local rules of golf, therefore there is no relief.

15cm Clean and PlacePlacing is permitted only on instruction from the Pro Shop.

handicappingThe purpose of the NZ Handicap system is to make the game of golf more enjoyable by enabling players of differing abilities to compete on an equitable basis.

Two basic premises underlie the Handicap system, namely that each player will try to make the best score at every hole in every

round, regardless of where the round is played, and that the player will post every acceptable round for peer review. The player and the players Handicap Committee have joint responsibility for adhering to these premises. Failing to adhere to the basic premises is a form of handicap manipulation.

Every player must be responsible for returning all acceptable scores. This includes scores made in match play, in multi ball or in team competitions.

Tournaments or competitions marked with a ( T ) will be used as Tournament scores for handicapping purposes.

Tui Club DaysA limited number of tee times are available on Wednesdays and Sundays, or in the case of Public holidays, Mondays for the Tui Club. To avoid disappointment, please book in advance by ringing the Pro Shop for a tee time or by booking on line. The pre booked club tee times must be filled before any additional times in close proximity and subject to availability may be available.

Members guests may play in Tui time but please advise the Pro Shop in case more tee bookings are required.

The club day haggle is $8 which includes highest daily scores, nearest the pin and twos. Tui club results will be published in the Taupo Times each week and on the board in the Pro Shop. To enter the haggle, please pay at the Pro Shop before you tee off in Tui time.

no gimmes are allowed. anyone giving gimmes may be disqualified from the competition along with their marker.

The competition of the day, nearest to the pin holes and general information will be displayed on the board in the Pro Shop. Please take time to read this.

    Competition Formats

strokeplayThe score on each hole is recorded to give you a gross score.

ParThe player uses the stroke value of each hole, as in stableford. After recording the score and taking into account the stroke allocation, this will give you the Nett result against Par. Any Nett score over Par is a loss or (-), a Nett score equal to Par is a half or (0) and a Nett score under Par is a win or (+).

bisque ParThis is played against Par, but with the allowable strokes (your course handicap) taken wherever the player wishes, not at holes set down on your score card. Strokes taken must be decided when marking your card, hole by hole and before you tee off again. For example, if a player has a 6 on a par 4, he may take 2 strokes for a half (equal to par) or (0), 3 strokes for a win (under par) or (+) or no strokes for a loss or (-).

Once you have used all your handicap strokes, you play the remaining holes using your gross score for each hole.

When marking your card, please use one column for your score, the next column for the strokes taken and the next column to record +, 0 or –

nettRecord your gross score and deduct your handicap. This will give you your Nett score.

handicap matchplay.Nett competition. Separate competition for Men and Ladies. Ballot draw. Lowest handicapper plays off zero.
