My memo to you this month is certainly bittersweet because I have accepted a new position as director of volunteer services with Lutheran Life Villages. As Dave Mustaine once said, “Moving on is a simple thing, what it leaves behind is hard.” Moving forward is simply about being true to oneself and fulfilling your life’s calling. For some, change is hard. But who promised us that life would always be easy? My passion has always been and will continue to be serving the older adult. As I think back, here are just some of the positive things we’ve experienced together. To begin, there is the joint venture between Fort Wayne Orthopedics and The Rehabilitation Hospital that provides access to two warm water pools. Members can enjoy warm aquatic exercises each week, which is a major benefit to those who suffer from arthritic pain. I cannot tell you how often I have received a phone call or had a member stop in to share a personal story about how much he or she appreciates having the pools available as an exercise option. I think about the consistency of programming we provide at Dupont, Lutheran and St. Joseph hospitals in order to meet the needs of members across the city and in the various counties we serve. Next, I think about how we have had more physician participation than ever before in our lecture and learn series. Your feedback enabled us to secure more physicians from various specialties and provide programming regarding your health needs. As a result, we have had more member participation during those lectures and learns than ever before. I also think about the fellowship we have enjoyed each time we see each other — all the fun we had guessing where we were headed on the “mystery trip” last year, the movies on Wacky Wednesdays and the day we had brunch at Brookside, when members dressed in their Sunday best and even wore hats. These are just some of the fond memories I have. Looking back, you realize that a very special person passed briefly through your life. That very special person just happens to be you. Goodbyes are not the end. They simply mean I’ll miss you until we meet again. I wish you all the very best and I know you will welcome the new advisor with open arms. Just promise to keep yourself happy, healthy and active and continue to tell others about the wonderful programs we offer in “our circle!” All my best! Melissa

As always, I hope this news-letter finds you doing what-ever keeps you happy, healthy and active. My memo to you this month is certainly bittersweet because I have accepted a new position asdirector of volunteer serviceswith Lutheran Life Villages.

As Dave Mustaine once said, “Moving on is a simple thing, what it leaves behind is hard.” Moving forward is simply about being true to oneself and fulfilling your life’s calling. For some, change is hard. But who promised us that life would always be easy?My passion has always been and will continue to be serving the older adult. As I think back, here are just some of the positive things we’ve experienced together. Members can enjoy warm aquatic exercises each week, which is a major benefit to those who suffer from arthritic pain. I cannot tell you how often I have received a phone call or had a member stop in to share a personal story about how much he or she appreciates having the pools available as an exercise option.
