It’s a RED-LETTER day for our February Valentine’s Month meeting, so put on some red, and come have so much fun that your cheeks turn red, too! Come hear an entrancing Roundtable by Certified Hypnotherapist Heddy Keith. Then event signups, the meeting, followed by lively, fun music by one of our favorites, Best of Everything, with dancing for EVERYONE, so ask someone just sitting alone to dance.

Hypnosis is something we’ve all heard about, sometimes with correct information about how it has helped people lose weight, reduce stress, relieve emotional problems, minimize pain, increase self-confidence, remove phobias, stop smoking, and break other habits. So come learn from Heddy Keith, Certified Hypnotherapist with the National Guild of Hypnotists, how

hypnosis works and how it could possibly help you or someone you know. Hear her tell about the myths and misgivings that people have about hypnosis. You may be surprised at what you hear she can do to help people. Questions? ron Sonntag, 414-788-4907, or [email protected]. Dinner will be served from 5 pm, so eat while listening.

When we go to our General Membership Meetings on the first Wednesday of the month,

we look forward to a variety of things. Some come early for the Roundtable talks, some for ‘I don’t have to cook’ and enjoy the good food that WG’s always has, some for signing up for special upcoming events, and yes, some just come for the socializing. For me, I enjoy all the above, but focus on the meeting since the agenda for the meeting is my responsibility. And with that being said, I am particularly concerned with the timeliness of the meeting itself so there’s time after for the sign-up tables and then the music and dancing. So it’s key that

the meeting starts promptly at 7:00 pm, not 7:05 or 7:10. We all like socializing, but when we call for people to take seats to start the meeting - please be kind and do that and quiet down till the meeting is over.

Believe me, our Directors are special people, and they do a lot of work to bring YOU all the events they do. So be courteous when they talk and when our Event Leaders are speaking. So I’m asking for your cooperation, so we can start our meetings right at 7 pm.

Judy Daniel Happy Valentine’s Day!

During our long Wisconsin winter, provide a remedy for cabin fever to your friends, family and acquaintances. Request a guest card for them so they can enjoy the

roundtable, meeting, and dance without having to pay the usual $5 fee. You’ll be giving a gift of fun activities and

friendship to those you love. Make a difference in someone’s life by giving the gift that keeps on giving all year long. Become an ambassador and spread the word about our unique Vagabond Ski & Social Club.

Yes, Vagabonds love to travel, so we offer many wonderful trips. In February, we have the trip to Ixtapa, Mexico. Check for openings with Sue Cummings at 414-

421-6248.Then much later, in the latter part of November, there’ll be a Bob Spindell trip to India, which Bob says will be “for three weeks, with the trip covering the most exciting and interesting aspects of India. More details to come.” If interested, give Bob a call at 414-276-6331 to be placed on the trip info list.

In between those trips is the spectacular Mediterranean Cruise that is likely the most luxurious cruise we’ve ever had. Those going will feel like royalty and be pampered possibly like no other travel experience. It takes place June 19 to 26. Space is very limited, because people from around the world will also be trying to get on this trip of a lifetime. The good news is that East Town Travel is holding spaces for us for a little while yet before it has to release them to Oceania, the luxury cruise line taking us on this tremendous trip. Here are some of the fabulous places we’re going to, starting in Rome, Italy, one of the most beautiful and famous cities in the world. Then, from Rome we go to the high and awesome Italian sea cliffs of Amalfi & Positano for a private tour, then to the incredibly beautiful island of Sardinia where you’ll see beauty not seen before, then to the Spanish island of Palma de Mallorca (where tennis phenom Rafael Nadal lives), and then to Barcelona in Spain, that some say is absolutely gorgeous and well worth seeing. We’re in port there from 8 am to 10 pm, so

we’ll have plenty of time to see this wonder of the earth. Then on to Marseilles and Antibes on the shoreline in France, and concluding in the fabulous city of Monte Carlo in Monaco.

It’s all on the Oceania Cruise Line, one of the very best in the world and number one in food among all cruise lines. Imagine the service with only 1,250 passengers and 800 crew. We’ll all be in spacious, 282 sq ft. state rooms with a veranda for sitting out on looking at the blue water or just relaxing. Also included is all food in all restaurants aboard (including the 7 gourmet ones), all tips, all soft drinks, a $300 per stateroom on-board credit to spend how you like, all airfare, all bus transfers, a cocktail reception, a panoramic tour of Rome, the private tour of Amalfi & Positano, three complimentary shore excursions, unlimited Internet, nightly entertainment, dancing to an 8-piece orchestra, a casino, a putting green, paddle tennis, and more – plus Vagabonds will receive a complementary pre-trip dinner here prior to the trip. The ship will be in a different port every day, with no “days at sea” and a ship that goes right to the docks in ports instead of sitting out in the deep and shuttling people in and out. Time is of the essence, though, if you’d like to join us and the other Vagabonds already signed up. To save time, just call or email ron Sonntag at 414-788-4907 or [email protected], and I’ll let you know if there’s still space available and send you the form to hold a spot for you.

This is a really special trip that is a one-of-a-kind. Call or email me, the Event Leader, now.

Vagabond race Team Captain: al LemkeThe MMSC race season got started with 2 Giant Slalom races on January 3rd at Alpine Valley. The Combined Vagabond team of men and women finished 3rd in the first race and got going in the second race to finish 1st out of 4 teams. Our women’s team, composed of the 2 fastest women each race, finished in 3rd place both races and were led each time by Jennifer Wampole and Leslie Jamieson. Our men’s team, composed of our 4 fastest racers each race, won both races. Dennis Novak, Al Lemke, Mike Kidd, and Norman Schlimbach, were our top 4. Other Vagabond racers that finished in first place for their class were Karen Lemke and Nancy Kidd. We also started our Wednesday night practices at Little Switzerland on January 6.

Vagabond members ought to consider joining us as guests at the Holy Hill

races on Saturday, February 6th just to get a chance to ski there and observe all that goes on at the ski race scene. For around $35 and a short drive, you can ski from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm, including lunch at the log cabin lodge half way up the hill. Just sign up and pay at the building located northwest of where the chairs load. You do not have to sign up to race. Just ski, enjoy the view, and have a good time at the best ski hill around. If you are interested please contact me in case of any updates.

Our ski team continues to have a growing younger base. The young are the future of our club. Turns out that skiing and ski racing combine people

of different ages quite well. Keep spreading the word to ALL about the wonderful opportunity to practice and race with the Vagabond Race Team as well as to participate in the many other activities our club offers. We welcomed Trixie Bluvstein, Dennis Novak, and Nick Leonard in joining our team this year. More races will have happened by the time you read this, but results can be viewed any time at www.mmscsr.com.

It is not too late to get involved. For more information on any of this, please contact me, al Lemke, at 414-688-2938 or [email protected].

Cross Country Skiing Cross country skiing is now combined with the Sunday hikes. This works well

when snow conditions are good and is suitable in most of the parks where we hike. Glacier Hills and the lake front are the exceptions. When in doubt of snow conditions, just have your skis handy as then you have the option to hike or ski. Skiers will always dine at the same restaurant as the hikers. You can’t go wrong either way. Check the hiking schedule under “Sporting activities” in

the Life for the dates, times, and locations. Happy skiing or hiking.

Daytime Ski Opportunity In between ski trips, how about joining your fellow Vagabond skiers at Alpine Ski Resort in Elkhorn? On Tuesday, February 9, lift tickets are $27. Not sure where this resort is? No problem. Those
