Elections. You’ve got tolove them. For thenewspaper it

means additional revenuesandplenty of editorial fod-der. For voters it’s decisiontime even though the choic-es are often among the lesserof evils. For candidates, it’stime to spin andput theirbest foot forward. If theydon’t have a best foot, thentheymakeoneup.Take theYins andYangs

running for city council.Wehave to give credit to thethreewomen– theYins –whohaveprettymuch stuckto a commitment to carryout the duties of the position.Onehas flat out said shewillnotmake anypromises. Thatis in keepingwith theChi-nese symbol that refers tolight or the sunnyplace.TheYangs, on the other

hand, are from the shade ordark side.On their flier, Ce-sar Parada,ArmandoLopezand JesusKataura proclaim

they are the protectors of thelocal economy.Howcan thisbe? All threewere in supportof theCWAboycott ofNo-gales aimed to spite the lateMayor IgnacioBarrazawhowas targeted for recall by thecluster fudge knownasCiti-zens forBetterNogalesGov-ernment –nothing butunionpatsies.CWA leader LindaHat-

field, who led the charge forthe boycott, could give a rat’srear about our local econo-my. She’s after dues andpo-

litical power to strong-armcity government. Now,CWAsweetheart Jose LuisMacha-do is our interimcity attor-ney. (See his smiling face atwww.cwa7000.org.)The trio ofYangs claim to

be “independent voices,” yeton the other side of theirmailer they get an endorse-ment fromOscarRosas, president of theNogales Po-liceOfficersAssociationonbehalf ofCWAand the fire-fighters’ union. Can’t have it bothways,

guys. Either you are “inde-pendent” or you are unioncontrolled. But don’tworry ifyou can’t tell the difference, the voters inNogales can.Having said all that, I

would like to personally in-vite everyone to a candidates’forum, to beheld atOasisCinemaOct. 23 from6-8p.m. It’s your chance to be apart of local political history. And if that doesn’t entice youto go to the forum, therewillbewine and cheese availablefrom7-8p.m.
