Minister for Health David Davis today released data showing a significant increase in the number of doctors employed at Goulburn Valley Health since the Coalition came to office. “Since June 2010, the number of doctors employed at Goulburn Valley Health has grown to over 150 in June 2014, an increase of 30 doctors,” Mr Davis said. “The Victorian Coalition Government’s massive $238.3 million investment in Victoria’s health workforce has helped create more doctors since 2010.” Mr Davis said the Coalition Government’s People in Health initiative educates and trains Victoria’s future doctors, nurses and health professionals. “This initiative has had an enormous impact in expanding and building a sustainable health workforce in Victoria, enabling it to meet the challenges or our ageing and growing population,” Mr Davis said. “We are proud to have delivered a record number of doctors in Victoria’s health workforce, ensuring our health services are well placed to deliver the highest quality care to patients, now and into the future.” Mr Davis said the People in Health initiative is significantly enhancing the careers of the next generation of doctors ensuring they continue to receive the best education and training. “We are building stronger partnerships across Government, the health and education sector and professional bodies, investing in additional student placements and enabling health professionals to develop their careers and be at the forefront of best practice,” Mr Davis said. ‘We are also targeting areas that require greatest support and funding more workforce development opportunities in rural and regional settings, as well as in the growth areas of Melbourne.” In 2014/15, the Napthine Government is spending a record amount of $14.9 billion on health and hospital funding. .
