Meadowlily Secondary Plan & EA Public Information and Visioning Session
February 10, 20102
welcome!Thank you for your interest in planning for the future of the Meadowlily Area! We hope this evening’s Visioning Session
provides you with an opportunity to share and express your opinions and to learn something new. Tonight’s program
will be structured as follows:
6:00-7:00 Interactive display and questions
Please take some time to review the panels on display and provide your feedback. City staff and consultant team
members will be available to answer your questions.
7:00-7:30 Welcoming remarks and presentation
Members of our project team will present welcoming remarks, a brief overview of the Meadowlily Secondary Plan and
Environmental Assessment process, and some initial thoughts on visioning the future of the Meadowlily area.
7:30-8:30 Small group discussions
The core component of the evening is a series of facilitated small group discussions. After the presentation, please
make your way to one of the tables. If there is more than one representative from your group, please go to different
tables in order to ensure a diversity of viewpoints at each table. Project Team members will guide participants through
each of the four themes we would like to discuss this evening.
8:30-9:00 Reporting back
Once all the groups have had an opportunity to discuss each of the four themes, a reporter will be assigned from each
table to share with the larger audience the key themes, ideas and recommendations that emerged from your discus-
sion.
why are we here tonight? The City of London is undertaking a secondary plan and environmental assessment process to guide all future
decisions affecting the long-term use, preservation and enjoyment of the Meadowlily area. You are here because we
need your help!
This evening’s discussion is the first in a series of public events designed to collect your input into the secondary
planning process. The purpose of tonight’s session is to get your help in crafting a vision for how Meadowlily should
evolve over time. Specifically, we would like to hear your thoughts on the following themes:
> a liveable community
> an attractive place
> a sustainable community
> a unique identity

Meadowlily Secondary Plan Boundary
study purposeThe City of London is embarking on a planning process to determine Meadowlily’s long-term function - both to the
adjacent community and within our broader City region. The study process begins with an inventory of the study area’s
key attributes (including both natural and built features), and a determination of the challenges and opportunities
associated with alternative future land uses within the area. This analysis then leads to the creation of a preferred land
use plan. At the study’s conclusion, the assessment and preferred land use plan will form a City Council-adopted
Secondary Plan - a policy document that will form part of our City’s Official Plan. Policies contained within this plan will
provide detailed direction on appropriate, sustainable development and land use patterns in Meadowlily; protect the
area’s important natural resources for the enjoyment of future generations; and prioritize community service and public
infrastructure improvements.
study areaThe study area for this planning process is shown below. Generally, the subject area is bounded by the Thames River
to the north, Commissioners Road to the south, Highbury Avenue to the west and the eastern boundary of the City-
Wide Sports Park to the east. The study area is approximately 95 hectares in size, with 65 hectares of land currently
designated as “Open Space”, the majority of which is being held in public ownership (either by the City or the Upper-
Thames River Conservation Authority). There is also approximately 30 hectares currently within the “Urban Reserve,
Community Growth (URCG)” designation. “Urban Reserve” declares Council’s intent to support urban development
in this area at some point in the future, though subject to the completion of component studies to identify, amongst
others, important natural heritage features.

how do we use these workbooks? These workbooks are divided into two main parts. The first section (what you are reading now) is for you to take home
with you. It provides an overview of the study process, study area, study timeline, and opportunities for consultation.
The second section of the workbook (the last page) is a place for you to record and share your ideas with the project
team and fellow community members. This section is divided into four visioning themes, and includes a series of ques-
tions. Please answer these questions in any format you wish - or simply use this space to offer any thoughts or com-
ments you have. You will have the option of sharing your feedback in small group discussions, or you may leave your
comments with any member of our project team here this evening.
Your comments will be used to help formulate the vision for the southwest area. They will also be summarized and
posted on the project website at: http://www.london.ca/meadowlily

Theme 1 - A LIVEABLE COMMUNITY
What elements need to be present for Meadowlily to become a “complete” community? What are the qualities that you
value most in a neighbourhood? Does it need a mix of land uses & housing types? What kind of places do you like to go
for shopping and dining? What would you like to see in your neighbourhood? Are there uses that are not part of a live-
able community? What kind of community facilities and open spaces do you value?
Theme 2 - AN ATTRACTIVE PLACE
What kinds of streets do you like living and walking on? What happens on those streets? What kinds of parks and
public squares do you enjoy?

What features make Meadowlily unique? What could be its signature? How can existing features like
the Thames River, Meadowlily bridge and/or neighbouring communities help form a unique identify?
