Dear Parents and Carers The children have settled in their second week of term 1 and we are looking forward to a busy term. In week 5 you will be invited to have a conversation with your child’s teacher so teachers can plan to meet your child’s needs. Invitations will be sent in the next few weeks. Farewell to Ms Povolo Ms Povolo has successfully gained a teaching position at a primary school near her home. Her last day at Meadow Heights Primary School is Friday the 14th of February. We wish to congratulate Ms. Povolo

on her new appointment and thank her for the valuable contribution she has made at Meadow Heights Primary School. Ms Beth McMullin will be familiar to most of our children and we she will be replacing Ms Povolo. School Council Elections All government schools in Victoria have a school council. MHPS school council has parent, community and staff rep-resentatives. Elections will be held this term and if you would like to nominate please ask our office staff for a nomi-nation form. Parents on school councils provide important viewpoints and have valuable skills that can help shape the direction of the school. School council members are able to directly influence the quality of education that the school provides for its students. Coronavirus Update The following information has been provided by the Department: As you may be aware, the situation regarding the emerging outbreak of novel coronavirus has continued to evolve. Over the weekend, the Commonwealth’s Chief Medical Officer and Victoria’s Chief Health Officer recommended a stronger precautionary approach to managing coronavirus for travellers returned from mainland China (not including Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan) from 1 February 2020. This recommendation is that parents/guardians/carers should ensure that any children returning from mainland China (not including Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan) who were in mainland China on or after 1 February 2020 is isolated at home and should not attend school until 14 days after they were last in mainland China. This recommen-dation does not apply retrospectively. It applies only to students who were in mainland China on or after 1 February 2020. The existing advice remains that parents/guardians/carers of students should ensure that any student is isolated at home and should not attend school for 14 days: • following exposure to any confirmed novel coronavirus case; or • after leaving Hubei Province. If you think your children are showing relevant symptoms, please call the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) to discuss further actions on 1300 651 160. DHHS has developed fact sheets in English and Simplified Chinese which include the latest information and advice. Additional advice and information on the steps to take can be found on the coronavirus web page which also includes advice on: • continuity of learning for students who are not attending school • international students and families hosting • international travel • maintaining good health hygiene at school • health promotion posters and materials • information, resources and contacts related to coronavirus. Thank you for your cooperation. Warm regards Mrs Margaret Leach School Principal

Our School Captains for 2020 were introduced to the school at Monday afternoon’s assembly.

Thu Ho and Ahmed Karhani will be hosting our assemblies and taking on a host of leadership and student voice activities this year.

We hope they enjoy their new role at MHPS.

We also met Ms Amy Backas. Ms Backas is currently filling the position of Assistant Principal since the departure of Mr Duyal. Ms Backas spoke at assembly and is keen to learn the names of all of our students. We hope Ms Backas enjoys her new role at MHPS this year!

We would like to announce that the Auditions for the Meadow Heights Glee Club & Band 2020 will be help in the coming weeks:

TUESDAY 18th FEBRUARY – WEEK 4 – FOR GRADE 6 FRIDAY 21st FEBRUARY – WEEK 4 – FOR GRADE 5 TUESDAY 25th FEBRUARY – WEEK 5 – FOR GRADE 4

Students don’t need to sign up, they just need to come to room 24 at lunch time on the above dates and wait their turn.

ALL STUDENTS NEED TO MAKE SURE TO HAVE A SONG OR DANCE READY TO PERFORM AT THE AUDITION If students know how to play a musical instrument they need to bring their instrument along and have a musi-cal piece ready to perform at auditions. If students are keen in learning to play a musical instrument and really want to be part of the MHPS band, then they will still have an interview with the Glee Club teachers. We look forward to auditions and seeing the amazing talent our MHPS students have. Mrs Silvia Menelaou & Mr Daniel Knox MHPS Glee Club & Band Teachers
