MUSIC:This class will focus on mostly piano studies and composing. There will bean emphasis on classical, jazz, pop, rock, and styles. Students will playinstruments and music games. All instruments and music will be provided.In addition, music clinics will be held by guest artists, which will include performances and hands on practice for a variety of instruments.
All ages. July 7th-August 8th from 9-12
SCIENCE:In this two-week science investigation we will explore rocketry: rockets inthe air and rockets of the sea. Each participant will make and designhis/her own rocket to launch. We will create instruments to calculatealtitude and estimate how high our rocket will fly. We will investigatevarious kinds of homemade rockets that can be made at home. In week two we will explore rockets of the sea: otherwise known as squid. We willdissect a squid and explore the nature of these fascinating creatures andwhy they deserve the name rockets of the sea!This class is for 5th-9th grade. July 21st-August 1st from 9-12
OUTDOOR GAMES:
Outdoor sports is sure to be a fun, healthy, and invigorating experience for all. There will be a diverse array of activities such as soccer, kick-ball,dodge ball, capture the flag and more. Everyone will be able to participate.All ages. July 7th-August 8th from 9-12 and 1-2
SUMMER HOOPS:
Practice makes perfect…or at least better! Basic skills will be developedfor dribbling, passing, shooting, rebounding, and play making. The fun part is putting these drills in practice through drills, games, andscrimmages. All levels will be accepted. Be a player!
All ages. July 7th- 25th from 1-2.
WOODSHOP:
This is a beginner class designed to teach young craftspeople how to use basic hand tools. Each student will build wood projects to take home, likeclocks, and benches. This class is similar to MCCPS Shop 1 class. Classesare $60.00 per day for Woodshop, (this includes money for the wood).This class is for 4th-5th graders. Offered on Monday’s only July 7th-August 8th from 9-12.
WOODSHOP-WOOD LATHE
This class is designed for young craftspeople that may have had theexperience working with wood; however, experience is not needed!Students will work on wood lathes, building plates, bowls, pens, keychain, and more.Classes are $60.00 per day for Woodshop, (this includes money for
wood). Offered on Tuesday’s only, July 7th- August 8th from 9-12.
2D ART:
Do you like to sketch or paint? Students will use photographic referenceto complete a sketch that they will later paint. Students will choose thestyle and subject they wish to paint. They will transfer the sketch ontocanvas board. Using acrylic paints as their medium each student will starta painting as they are coached on techniques and methods.
All ages. July 7th- August 8th from 9-12 and 1-2.
3D ART:
This class will consist of studying and making sculptures. We will look at
difference moments of sculpture and focus on form, design, andcomposition. The different projects created will be the start a portfolio.All ages. July 7th- August 8th from 1-2.
COLONIAL HISTORY:
A living history experience of 18th century Marblehead…learning aboutevents, lifestyles of its colonial inhabitants by active participation in period events and touring local historical sites. Places include GloversRegiments, Agnes Surrage's Well and Fountain Inn, Peabody EssexMuseum, M'hd Museum/Historical Society, House of Even Gablesand more. Students will be given the opportunity to dress in Colonialtimes and learn nautical skills like knots, and fancy rope work, fishing and
more. Note that some weekend activities will be included at Fort SewallEncampment. Small travel expenses may occur which will appear in the permission slips.Grades 6th-9th. July 7th - August 8th from 9-12.
