Experience Summary:A long, varied history of finding inventive and sophisticated graphic arts solutions to difficult communication problems for the Navy, Army and other Government agencies. Twenty years of active service in the Navy, with over nine directly supporting the Intelligence Community. Four and a half years of that in the Chief of Naval Operations’ Intelligence Plot at the Pentagon supporting daily intelligence briefings to the CNO, Joint Staff and other executive level customers. While with Xtreme Concepts Systems, was responsible for the preparation and integration of multimedia briefing presentations and analysis for Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), Advanced Technical Office (ATO) concept briefings to the Director of DARPA. Additionally provided high quality and innovative digital graphic design products for seminars and trade shows that consistently exceeded production expectations. As a Graphic Artist with JB Management Inc. From 2006 to 2013, produced a extensive array of graphics products for the Army’s 1st Information Operations Command (Land) and the U.S. Army Cyber Command. Currently designing display graphics and printed educational materials for the National Museum of the United States Navy under contract from Quantell, Inc.

March 2014 to Present:Graphic Artist, Quantell, Inc., Grantsville, MDGraphic Artist assigned under contract to the National Museum of the United States Navy, Washington Navy Yard, Washington, D.C. Designed and Illustrated print and display materials for museum exhibits and educational programs. Projects included a WWII rationing guide and cookbook activity booklet for the Navy Museum Education Center, and exhibit display panels for the U.S. Navy Chaplain Service and the U.S. Navy Hydrofoils exhibit sponsored by the International Hydrofoil Society.

December 2006 to October 2013:Senior Graphic Artist, JB Management, Inc., Arlington, VAGraphic Artist assigned under contract to the Army’s 1st Information Operations Command (Land), Fort Belvoir, VA. As the only graphic artist in the command, provided graphic design support to all elements of 1st IO CMD in support of briefings, publications, web design, events and ceremonies, and special projects. Created logos for several operational segments of the command including six forward-deployed Regional Computer Emergency Response Teams, the Army Computer Emergency Response Team (ACERT, later ACOIC), Mission Support Teams, and the Army Cyber OPFOR unit among others. Created posters, displays and literature for tradeshows and Hacker Conventions to support 1st IO CMD public relations and recruitment efforts. Designed graphics for 1st IO CMD website and newsletter. Performed illustration and layout work for various other command logo printed products. Graphic design services were extended by the customer to create a command crest for the Marine Corps Information Operations Center, Quantico Marine Corps Base, VA. Beginning in 2009, graphic design services were extended by the customer to the U.S. Army Cyber Command (ARCYBER). Among the many projects for ARCYBER were the creation of the official ARCYBER Seal and Coat of Arms (accepted and registered by the Army’s Institute of Heraldry), several logos, and many other command branding elements. In the three years as the de facto graphic artist for ARCYBER, designed numerous posters, booklets, pamphlets and other printed and display products for their Public Affairs Office and Command Historian. These included booklets and pamphlets for high-level conferences, and programs and posters for command events and ceremonies. Products were produced for varied events such as Changes of Command, 9/11 memorial ceremonies, Easter egg hunts, golf tournaments, and the Army Cyber Ball. Additional projects included design of several hallway displays and the Commanding General’s and Command Sergeant Major’s coins.

Wrote and edited copy for length and consistency for print products including programs, pamphlets and flyers. Wrote copy for Award Certificates and detailed symbolism and heraldic descriptions of created logo and seal designs for submission to The Institute of Heraldry (TIOH), design adoption proposals and command historical reference documentation. Acted as command photographer for coverage of training exercises, ceremonies and social events, including children’s photos with Santa at holiday parties.

In addition to contracted work for the customers, was called upon for graphic arts support to the corporate headquarters with packaging design of marketed software and concept designs for corporate marketing functions.

June 2006 to November 2006:Consulting Visual Communications Specialist / Graphic Designer, Xtreme Concepts Systems, Arlington, VACreated over 40 logo designs for a restructured DARPA function. Provided graphic design support including museum kiosk designs, and other graphic designs and PowerPoint presentations for Xtreme Concept contract proposals. Involved in producing conceptual designs and graphics for the Army Biometric proposal.

Repaired and maintained strategic weapons system components aboard Ohio Class ballistic missile submarines as crewmember and at a shore refit facility. Completed six Strategic Deterrent Patrols, including one two-shot Operational Test Launch.
