II) OPERATION & MAINTAINANCE CELL :-

1. Under JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) assisted AmritsarSewerage Project amounting to Rs. 600.60 Cr., the work for the constructionof Interceptor/Trunk and lateral sewer in South & North Zone is in progress.In South zone area against the scope of work for laying lateral sewer 121.70Km., Trunk sewer 20.78 Km., Cast in Situ 6.18 Km. and house connection17500 nos. Approx. 85.32 Km. lateral sewer, 23.27 Km. Trunk sewer,6.25Km. Cast in Situ sewer has been laid and 2515 nos. houses are connectedwith the sewer. Similarly in North zone area against the scope of work forlaying lateral sewer 270.02 Km., Trunk sewer 22.52 Km., Cast in situ 16.65Km. and house connection 27500 nos. Approx. 99.59 Km. lateral sewer,18.85 Km. Trunk sewer, 4.71 Km. Cast in situ sewer has been laid and 2860nos. houses are connected with the sewer. The remaining work shall becompleted upto 31/03/2016.

2. Under JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) assisted AmritsarSewerage Project, the work for the construction of 2 No.s STPs & MPS of 95MLD each (Sewage Treatment Plant, Main Pumping Station) at BasarkeBhaini near Khapper Kheri in South zone amounting to Rs. 80.30 Cr. and atWadala Bhittewad near Village Gausabad in North amounting to Rs. 84.70 Cr.has been allotted and the work is in progress. In the South Zone, Boundarywall in progress, Layout Plan approved Hydraulic and Process Calculationapproved, PCC & RCC of Aeration Tank completed. RCC walls of AerationTank and MPS is in progress. PCC & RCC foundation of MPS is completed.PCC of Primary & Secondary clarifier laid. RCC of PST foundationcompleted. PCC & RCC of Secondary Clarifier in progress. Staff quarter A1& A2, A3 in progress. PCC of digester is completed & steel Reinforcement isin progress and in the North Zone, 95% Boundary Wall completed, LayoutPlan, Hydraulic and Process Calculation approved, PCC & RCC of AerationTank & MPS completed. RCC for walls for aeration tank & MPS in progress.PCC & RCC of Primary clarifier completed. PCC & RCC of SecondaryClarifier is completed. Staff quarter A1 & A2 in progress & PCC of sludgedigester in progress. At present in South zone Approx. Rs. 7.45 Cr. has beenincurred and in North zone Approx. Rs. 7.85 Cr. incurred. The work for theconstruction of STPs & MPS shall be completed upto 31/03/2016.

3. Rehabilitation of existing Water Scheme in walled city area at Amritsar(Under JNNURM) with a Project cost of Rs. 12.98 Cr. has been approved bythe GoI. As per the scope of work 65.12 Km. of Water Supply line (G.I./D.I.pipe lines) is to be laid, 9 No’s. OHSRs (Over Head Service Reservoir) are to

be repaired, 39 Nos. Chlorinator & Flow Meter including 17500 nos. houseconnections. At present 64.30 Km. Water Supply line G.I./D.I. pipe lines laidand 16500 nos. house connected with the water supply line and the remainingworks shall be completed upto 31/03/2016.

4. Rehabilitation of existing Sewerage system in walled city area atAmritsar (Under JNNURM) with a Project cost of Rs. 9.98 Cr. has beenapproved by the GoI. As per the scope of work 17.52 Km. lateral sewer,0.42Km. RCC Pipe Sewer and 5844 nos. house connections are to be made. Atpresent 11.25 Km. lateral sewer, 0.42 Km. RCC pipe sewer laid and 4000nos. house connected with the sewerage and the remaining work shall becompleted upto 31/03/2016.

5. A project amounting to Rs. 202.34 Cr. in South-East zone of AmritsarSewerage Project with a scope for providing Water Supply, Sewerage,Sewage Treatment Plants, Roads, Street Light, O&M for 10 years has beenapproved and the funding agency of this project is JNNURM/GoP/ULBs. Thework has been allotted to the agency for Rs. 183.59 Cr. and the work is inprogress. The scope of work includes 47 Km. Water Supply line, 4 Nos.T/wells, 4 Nos. OHSRs, 7500 nos. house connection, 107.30 Km. Lateralsewer,17.50 Km. main sewer,20000 nos. house connection,1 No. MPS (90MLD), 1 No. IPS (15 MLD),1 No. STPs (27.50 MLD), 173970 Sq.mtr CC.road, 218750 Sq. mtr metalled road and 3520 nos. street light points withO&M for 10 years. Survey work is in Progress.

6. To transform service delivery of potable water supply system based onSurface Water in Amritsar City, the Govt. of Punjab requested the WorldBank for providing Non-Lending Technical Assistance (NLTA). The WorldBank awarded this feasibility study to consultancy agency M/s. RoyalHaskoning DHV Company Pvt. Ltd. The Consulting agency finalized thefeasibility report with an estimated cost Rs.1358 Cr. which is submitted to theGovt. of Punjab of its final decision and approval.

III) Health Department

Under the Swachh Bharat Mission a meeting of the officers of Municipal

Corporation, Amritsar was held under the Chairmanship of Hon'ble Local Bodies,

Medical Education & Research Minister Punjab on 27-8-2015 at Maharaja Ranjit Singh

Panorma in which instructions were issued to the officers of Municipal Corporation,

Amritsar to ensure cleanliness of the areas under their control.

A meeting with the Chief Sanitary Inspector & Sanitary Inspectors was also

held under the chairmanship of Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Amritsar in

which survey of identified individual household latrine beneficiaries & verification done

by them was reviewed. It was found that in total 975 applications of individual household

latrines beneficiaries were surveyed by the area Sanitary Inspectors out of which 905

application were verified.

A meeting with the Bank Managers of Amritsar city under Swachh Bharat

Mission was also held on 31-8-15 under the Chairmanship of Commissioner,

M.C.Amritsar in which they were requested to maintain cleanliness around the

surroundings of the banks & they will place dust bins for throwing garbage near their

banks.

A meeting with the Sanitary Inspectors of Municipal Corporation, Amritsar

under Swachh Bharat Mission was also held under the Chairmanship of Commissioner,

M.C. Amritsar in which it was explained by the Sanitary Inspectors that 3299

applications of individual household latrine beneficiaries were surveyed & 3299

applications were verified.

A rally under Swachh Bharat Mission was also organised on 11-8-15 in

which students & teachers of Shahzada Nand Girls High school situated at Chowk

Pragdass near Golden Temple, Amritsar participated. The rally marched past from Guru

Ram dass niwas sarai to Chowk Lachmansar. Banners & posters of Swachh Bharat

Mission were displayed by the students of the school. Smt.Veena Piplani principal &

Staff Members of the school also participated in this rally.

A road show on 10-8-15 by the students of D.A.V Public school situated at

Lawrence road was also organized under the Swachh Bharat Mission. This road show

was passed through from Novelty Chowk towards Ganpati tower situated at Jammun wali

road in which student & teachers of the school participated . The shopkeepers &

passersby were made aware to maintain cleanliness around their surroundings. Pamphlets

were also distributed to the shopkeepers & passersby & slogans were raised to maintain

India neat & clean.

IV) MTP DEPARTMENT :-

The Land department of Municipal Corporation, Amritsar has constituted two teams

under the supervision of inspectors for the removal of temporary encroachments from foot paths

and roads. Other than dealing with the complaints received in the department, these teams

remove temporary encroachments in the different parts of the city. Removal of encroachments is

an ongoing process and is being under taken on daily basis.

Also, shopkeepers in the markets are being regularly requested through public address

systems to keep their merchandise/goods within their shops/ premises and not to display them on

roads/footpaths. Recently shopkeepers of Putlighar market were warned through public address

system for removing encroachments from in front of their shops. Also anti encroachments drive

was carried out in Putlighar bazaar and area around Golden Temple and O/s Shaheedan Sahib

Gurudwara with the help of traffic police.
