Last Day of Term
Dear Parents
As we come to the end of a very busy Term 3, I write to you to highlight some of
the fantastic events which have taken place here at Network School. We started
the term off with our Under 15 Girls Basketball team competing in the Yangon
Schools Under 19 Basketball Championship at MISY. Network girls reached the
final and won a hard fought victory over MISY to be crowned champions. Net-
work students then brought home trophies for winning second place for the Boys
& Girls Swimming competition hosted by Yangon International School.
In February the Dragon Dancers visited our 7 Mile Campus, in celebration of Chi-
nese New Year and gave our students a fantastic performance. We then rounded
up this term with our Upper Primary and Secondary students going on Camps
ranging from Shwe Pyi to Siem Reap & Angkor Wat in Cambodia.
Friday 18 March was an historical moment for Network International School with
our Year 11 students (photograph below) taking their and Network’s very first
Cambridge IGCSE examinations and we wish them all the best for their forth com-
ing exams.
On behalf of Teacher Carole, all the Network staff and myself I wish you all a very
Happy Water Festival Holiday and look forward to Term 4 when our Year 11s will
continue to sit their iGCSE Examinations and all other year groups will complete
their end of year examinations.
Yours sincerely

SCHOOL CAMPS
During week commencing 7 March 2016 our Year 5 to 11s attended camp. A fantastic time was
had by all. Here are some of the fantastic photographs which each year group took whilst away.
Year 5
(Trip to Shwe Pyi)
Year 6
(Trip to Pathein)
Parasols, Halua and Much, Much More
It was with mixed feelings of excitement and trepidation that the Year six students boarded the bus. It was the
trip of the year- which took 5 hours - and we were going to Pathein on school camp. We were supposed to be
learning about industries and how they ran, but we also learnt about how to become more independent and to
experience living away from home.
Led by our fearless teachers, we visited many spectacular places, some of the highlights were: going to the
parasol factory and watching how they handmade them; looking around at the local market at the wonderful
stores and watching how people boiled and stirred ingredients to make a sweet tasting halua. We also mar-
veled at people who could shape ordinary clay into fantastic pots and talked to a family that weave their own
mats for a living. For a special treat the night before we left, we had a bonfire and sang around it while roasting
marshmallows (which were delicious).
Over all I think we had a great time!

Year 7
(Trip to Mandalay)
Year 8
(Trip to Bagan)
Bagan, with over 2000 pagodas from
the 11th and
12th
centuries, is a hot and
dusty place, so we really liked having
a hotel with a nice big pool!
Many pagodas have been destroyed
or damaged by earthquakes but we
did visit lots!
Fortunately we did other things: we
had a great boat trip out to a sandy
island where we played games and
messed about on the beach;
we had a horse and cart trip; we
went to a village where they get the
sap from the toddy palm to make
drinks – but nobody got drunk!
The Year Sevens had a very successful trip to Mandalay, here is an article writ-
ten by some of the students to tell you what we all got up to!
We went to Mandalay Palace to research about the palaces built by King Ming-
dong. We also went to U Bein Bridge to see sunset. We went to Sagaing Hill, Ku
Tho Daw pagoda, Payar Gyi, Old Monastery and Emerald pagoda. We went to
May Myo December restaurant, Pwe Kaut Waterfall and Pait Chin Myawn
Cave, Gold/ Silver smith and also visit Mandalay Kan Daw Gyi.
On the camp to Mandalay, we went to U Bein Bridge and watched the sunset,
you can’t believe how beautiful it was. We went to a restaurant and we all
bought some drinks and ate some chips. We sat there and watched the sunset.
Watching the sunset at the bridge made it a beautiful and wonderful day.
The day we enjoyed the most was the last day of the camp because we had
lots of fun when we visited an amusement park. Some of the students swam
and some played games. In the swimming pool, there were water slides that
were very high. Tr.AMT went on the water slide and it was so funny. Some of
us play games like darts, throwing basketball and other games.
It was a very successful journey to Mandalay. We had lots of fun and it was
educational, we now know more about Mandalay history. It was an amazing
trip and it helped us develop our social skills with friends and also teachers.

Year 9
(Trip to Inlay)
Year 10 & 11
(Trip to Cambodia)
What do you get if you mix 26 students, 7 teachers, a few mountains and
a lake? Year 9 camp!
Starting off in Pindaya we saw a cave of 8000 Buddhas, a traditional pa-
per making factory and most importantly (for some) our lovely hotel
where we could rest our weary heads. Not before a whole load of team
games though!
We needed all the rest we could get in order to complete our trek to a
monastery 6000ft up where we spent the night toasting marshmallows
and playing games. Upon returning back to the hotel we were in need of
a long shower and a good night’s sleep (again, not before more team
games). The highlight of the camp for many was the relaxed boat trip
around Inle Lake visiting workshops and learning about Shan culture -
even if many of us did fall asleep on the boat!
Students voted for their peers in a series of award categories including
best behaved girl (Lucy and Apple), best behaved boy (Toe) and funniest
moment (we won’t embarrass anyone here).
All in all, year 9 camp to Shan state was a huge success and the teachers
and students had a great (although tiring) time. Thank you to everyone
who made it possible.
Year 9 students and teachers
“Teacher Judy’s top climbers”
Cambodia! Cambodia! Cambodia!
Years 10 & 11 ventured past Myanmar’s borders for their annual
school trip. From tireless temple hopping to haggling in down-
town markets we eagerly embraced the opportunity from a little
pre-IGCSE trip. With exams drawing near, this was a much
needed street-reliever!

THE DRAGON DANCE
In celebration of Chinese New Year our students watched a fabulous performance of The Dragon
Dance.
GREAT BRITISH DAY
The British Ambassador’s Residence hosted the GREAT British Day. Network school hosted the
Sporting Event and over 3,000 visitors came to have a great fun day out.
NETWORK NEW PRIMARY SCHOOL BUILDING
The new build at Bahan Campus is taking shape ready for our students from Foundation to Year 6 to
take up residence from the start of the new academic year. The Network swimming pool is com-
plete and students have recently started swimming lessons as part of their Physical Education cur-
riculum. The school will be writing to parents towards the end of the academic year about timings of
the school day together with drop-off and pick-up arrangements for parents.

On Saturday 5th
March Network International School
were invited to compete in the 2016 YIS Swim Meet
Invitational. Network fielded two teams of swimmers
to compete; these being the U11 and U15 girls as well
as the U11 and U15 boys. In total there were five
schools competing; these were Network International
School, Yangon International School, Myanmar Inter-
national School, British School Yangon and the Inter-
national School of Myanmar.
The competition as a whole was very well organised
and it was a delight to see so many students enjoying
the event. The students from Network school swam to
a good level throughout the day, cheered on by teach-
ers and parents this created a very supportive and
motivational atmosphere for the Network students
Due to the high level of team effort both the boys and
girls team placed second, with numerous students
placing in 1st, 2nd
and 3rd
place across many disci-
plines. Congratulations to all the Network students
who participated and a special thank you to the par-
ents who were tremendously supportive throughout
the whole day.

BOOK WEEK
In the book week there were a great deal of cool activities that we all (when we say all, we mean Upper
Primary) thoroughly enjoyed! For example the reading challenge; we were put into groups (Years 5 & 6 mixed
together), and we have been recording all of the books we have read on a thermometer – at the moment, it’s
really close between our groups – Kate’s is on 7 and mine (Julian) is on 6! We better get reading! On Thursday
17th
of March we had to dress up as one of our favorite characters from our favorite book. We had a parade
and tomorrow the winners will be revealed during assembly. Teacher Bori also read us a book which is called
The Lost Thing (by Shaun Tan), it was a graphic novel – which means there are many pictures which also tell
the story. We have created our own book cover for this book, we will also find out the winner of this
competition soon. During the week, there was an activity where we had to stop and read if we heard a whistle
or a bell. This was the best book week we ever had in the history of Upper Primary.

Sandawara School
The Power Saving School
Filled with excitement, the primary class representatives left the Network Campus - on February the 17th
- to
go to Sandawara School – founded by a British family. We were donating stationary that the school had
bought with the fundraising money.
Now this was a pretty special school because it saved electricity by using: solar panels and collecting water. It
was also very generous, bearing in mind that it went up from kindergarten to the seventh grade and was free
of charge for all the students. The school’s academic program was surprisingly very good; for the school was
based in a rural community. It had: English, math, library time, a music program run by Guitarme and ICT les-
sons that consisted a lot of sharing considering there were only six computers for a couple of hundred stu-
dents.
Our school was greatly impressed at the school and we hope to help it more in the future.
