PARISH LEADERSHIP
Have you ever thought about serving on a parish
committee? Of being actively involved in the workings
of the parish? Our committees need dedicated
volunteers to carry on our work. Won’t you please
consider signing up to serve on one of our committees?
No experience necessary – we just appreciate your input
and advice!
Tom Sprader, was elected by a majority vote to serve a
second two-year term as parish
Trustee Secretary.

“The Spirit itself bears witness with our spirit
that we are children of God, and if children then
heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ…”
- Romans 8:16-17
If we are heirs to the kingdom of God, shouldn’t we
work to build up His kingdom? Shouldn’t we be good
stewards of our inheritance, using our time in prayer,
our talent in charitable works and our treasure to care
for the Church that God has left to us? Our Church is
a treasured heirloom from God. Do we treat it that
way?

PICK UP YOUR HARVEST FEST
RAFFLE TICKETS
Our annual parish picnic, Harvest Fest, is August
19th. Please mark your calendars now so that you
will be able to join us. The picnic is an important
way to celebrate our parish community.
Each year we are grateful for the generous response
of donations, time and interest. Last year was very
successful, everyone had a great time!
Please note : Due to state regulations regarding
raffles, we are required to track all tickets for the
raffle. To make this requirement easier to manage,
we have made the following changes:
• Tickets are $5.00 each, or 6 tickets for $25.00.
This greatly reduces the number of tickets we
have to track.
• Each envelope is numbered and contains 6
tickets. This is the same dollar commitment we
have put in the envelopes in prior years ($25
for 30 tickets), but fewer tickets to fill out and
track.
• Please take any envelope/s from the basket and
print your name on the tracking sheet by the
tickets with the corresponding number on your
envelope. For example, if you take envelope #4,
then next to #4 on the tracking sheet you
would print your name.
• Very Important: If you are unable to sell your
tickets, please return any unsold tickets to the
parish.
When filling out your tickets, please only have one
name on the ticket—if you use an address label that
shows both husband and wife, please cross one name
off.
We need your help! Each year we have a shortage of
volunteers. Please consider getting involved in one of
the areas of the picnic. It is a great way to spend time
with your family and meet new parishioners as well!
Only two hours of your time will make a big difference
in the success of our picnic.
GARDEN CLUB
GARDENING SEASON HAS
BEGUN!
We are a lively bunch of
parishioners that would love to have
more gardeners come and join in
while we care for the Memorial
Garden and the original Cottage Garden at
church. Come when you can, but we typically meet at
9:00 am Tuesday mornings and bring our own favorite
tools. We weed and beautify the two areas. If there are
any questions call Bev DalSanto at 434-2426.

on the link below the Lifetouch picture to schedule
your photography session. We have many openings the

session, please call Lori in the parish office at 865-7844.

email from our parish and have access to all the videos
on their website. To sign up, just give your email
address or cell phone number to Lori to be added to
the site. You can email Lori at
[email protected] or call her at 865-7844.
There are also cards in the Gathering Space that you
can complete and return to Lori. Finally, you can sign
up yourself by texting JoinEngage to 84576.
CEMETERY INFORMATION
HONORING OUR
VETERANS
We will be honoring our
Veterans with the
placement of flags on their
gravesites for a 2—week period beginning May 23rd. A
group of parish members who are also Veterans will be
placing the flags, so we are doing it “Flintville
style”. We feel confident that we have identified the
graves of every Veteran buried in our cemetery, but
should you be aware of one we missed please contact
the parish office. All flags will be placed in line with
the monuments to facilitate grass cutting during those
2 weeks.
MISSIONARY COOPERATION 2018
June 9—10
My name is Fr. Maurice Mmegbuadimma. People
usually ask me here, “how do you pronounce your last
name?” My response is usually, “never mind.” Call me
by my first name. We may need a speech therapist to
assist us in pronouncing that last name. It is a full
sentence. It literally means, “cheating is not good.” As
a concept it means “justice.” I have been a parochial
vicar at St. Peter the Fisherman Parish since 2014. My
home diocese is Ahiara in Nigeria.
The Missionary cooperation program of the Diocese of
Green Bay is an awesome tool of evangelization. It is
one way of heeding the call from “Macedonia” (Acts
16:9) to assist our brothers and sisters in parts of the
world needing help. My diocese is still very young and
located in rural South East part of Nigeria. The
location of the diocese necessarily demands ministries
to assist the local population. One of those necessary
ministries is hospital ministry. The government
hospital in the diocese is relatively functional and
barely provides basic medical services. To assist in
bridging this gap of poor medical service to the
population, my diocese started a construction of a
medical facility to help the rural poor of the diocese.
This facility is meant to care for pregnant women and
children and assist in tropical health challenges like
malaria treatment and prevention. The construction is
on-going by the generosity of people like you. We are
grateful for your care and generosity. Thanks.

8 Tips for a Healthy Heart
Follow these tips to ward off heart disease
Think of your heart as a metronome. It keeps the beat
to your body’s daily functions, pushing blood near and
far to nourish every cell and fiber. As a powerhouse
organ, you’ll want to keep your heart in tip-top shape,
especially because diabetes can up your risk for heart
disease.
1. Exercise more. You don’t have to run five miles
daily to get a good workout. Just taking more steps,
if you’re counting, can have a benefit. “It’s
important to build some regular activity into your
life.”
2. Sit less. Many of us spend our days in a seated
position—whether at work, driving, watching TV, or
using a computer. “A recent paper basically said
that … if you’re sedentary more than 10 hours a day
that correlates with risk for vascular disease.” You
may have to get creative to reduce your sitting time.
Maybe going for a stroll around the office every 60
or 90 minutes is an option. Or ask your employer to
consider standing desks, treadmill desks, or pedal
work stations.
3. Eat well. The Mediterranean diet, the Therapeutic
Lifestyle Changes diet, and the DASH diet all have
benefits for people with diabetes or to prevent heart
disease.
4. Slash sugar. Small changes can have big benefits:
Cut out sugar-sweetened beverages, foods with added
sugars, processed carbohydrates (white bread, white
rice, and white potatoes, for instance), and curb your
alcohol intake. Alcohol is fermented sugar, and
when your body breaks it down, it becomes sugar.
5. Set goals. Losing weight and maintaining weight
require different behaviors, but both are important.
When losing weight, don’t get fixated on an ideal
number. You can make significant gains in health
and the treatment of diabetes, and other risk factors
related to diabetes, with very modest weight loss.
6. Manage stress. Exercise, meditation, relaxation,
music, and art help with stress management and
heart health. Stress releases hormones in our body,
and many of these hormones raise our blood sugar
and make it harder for our diabetes to get under
good control.
7. Sleep better. Much like stress, poor sleep can raise
stress hormones. Six to eight hours is probably the
ideal amount of sleep for most adults. One thing
that can make getting a good night sleep difficult for
people with diabetes is sleep apnea, a condition
many people don’t even realize they have. Symptoms
include loud snoring, spells where you stop breathing
at night, and excessive sleepiness during the day.
Talk with your doctor if you experience any of these.
It could be affecting your glucose control and upping
your risk for hypertension and heart disease.
Know your numbers. Keep track of your health stats
using a chart or log. Check your blood pressure and
blood glucose regularly, and be aware of your most
current blood test results, including A1C and
cholesterol. Source: Diabetes Forecast and American Heart Association.
Take care of your Beautiful Heart,
Carol Mueller, Parish Nurse
