FIRST READING Acts 10:44-48

While Peter was still speaking, the Holy Spirit fell upon all who heard the word. Thecircumcised believers who had come with Peter were astounded that the gift of the HolySpirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles, for they heard them speaking in tongues andextolling God. Then Peter said, “Can anyone withhold the water for baptizing these peoplewho have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?” So he ordered them to be baptized in thename of Jesus Christ. Then they invited him to stay for several days.

SECOND READING 1 John 5:1-6

Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves theparent loves the child. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God andobey his commandments. For the love of God is this, that we obey his commandments. And hiscommandments are not burdensome, for whatever is born of God conquers the world. And this is thevictory that conquers the world, our faith. Who is it that conquers the world but the one who believesthat Jesus is the Son of God? This is the one who came by water and blood, Jesus Christ, not withthe water only but with the water and the blood. And the Spirit is the one that testifies, for the Spiritis the truth.

All who are able, stand as the Gospel Book is carried in procession.

*HYMN #700 “O love that casts out fears” Moseley

THE HOLY GOSPEL John 15:9-17

Congregational Response: Glory to you, Lord Christ

Jesus said to his disciples, “As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you; abide in my love. If youkeep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandmentsand abide in his love. I have said these things to you so that my joy may be in you, and that your joymay be complete. This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. No onehas greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do whatI command you. I do not call you servants any longer, because the servant does not know what themaster is doing; but I have called you friends, because I have made known to you everything that Ihave heard from my Father. You did not choose me but I chose you. And I appointed you to go andbear fruit, fruit that will last, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask him in my name. I amgiving you these commands so that you may love one another.”

Congregational Response: Praise to you, Lord Christ

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light,

true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation

he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Maryand became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose againin accordance with the Scriptures;he ascended into heavenand is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father, who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead,

and the life of the world to come. Amen.

THE GREAT THANKSGIVING Eucharistic Prayer 1 from Enriching our Worship I

The Lord be with you.And also with you.Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord.Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.It is right to give God thanks and praise.

It is truly right, and good and joyful, to give you thanks, all-holy God, source of life andfountain of mercy.

You have filled us and all creation with your blessing and fed us with your constant love; youhave redeemed us in Jesus Christ and knit us into one body. Through your Spirit youreplenish us and call us to fullness of life.

Therefore, joining with Angels and Archangels and with the faithful of every generation, welift our voices with all creation as we sing (say):

SANCTUS (*all singing) “Sanctus and Benedictus” Craig Philips (b. 1961)

Blessed are you, gracious God, creator of the universe and giver of life. You formed us inyour own image and called us to dwell in your infinite love. You gave the world into our

care that we might be your faithful stewards and show forth your bountiful grace. But wefailed to honor your image in one another and in ourselves; we would not see your goodnessin the world around us; and so we violated your creation, abused one another, and rejectedyour love. Yet you never ceased to care for us, and prepared the way of salvation for allpeople. Through Abraham and Sarah you called us into covenant with you. You delivered usfrom slavery, sustained us in the wilderness, and raised up prophets to renew your promise ofsalvation.

Then, in the fullness of time, you sent your eternal Word, made mortal flesh in Jesus. Borninto the human family, and dwelling among us, he revealed your glory. Giving himself freelyto death on the cross, he triumphed over evil, opening the way of freedom and life.

On the night before he died for us, Our Savior Jesus Christ took bread, and when he hadgiven thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his friends, and said: “Take, eat: This is myBody which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.”

As supper was ending, Jesus took the cup of wine, and when he had given thanks, he gave itto them, and said: “Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which ispoured out for you and for all for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this forthe remembrance of me.”

Therefore we proclaim the mystery of faith:Christ has died.Christ is risen.Christ will come again.

Remembering his death and resurrection, we now present to you from your creation thisbread and this wine. By your Holy Spirit may they be for us the Body and Blood of ourSavior Jesus Christ. Grant that we who share these gifts may be filled with the Holy Spiritand live as Christ’s Body in the world. Bring us into the everlasting heritage of yourdaughters and sons, that with Blessed Andrew and Matthew all your saints, past, present, andyet to come, we may praise your Name for ever.

Through Christ and with Christ and in Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, to you be honor, glory, and praise, for ever and ever.
