Marking One Year at First Baptist
At the age of eighty, Moses heard God’s voice calling him from a burning bush to a new assign-ment that changed his destiny (Exodus 3:1-5). One minute he was just an obscure desert shepherd. The next moment he was the leader of an immense congregation about to be set free from 400 years of slavery. That’s how God works. In unlikely events and circumstances, he interrupts our lives and calls us to new places. When I was in Richmond, I had a burning bush experience. After months of prayer and discernment, God called me to FBC of Clayton. I was about to turn 55, the number on a Speed Limit sign! Yet God spoke clearly to me and to Linda. God said, “I have a new job for you.” There is joy in obedience. As I marked my one year anniversary in the pulpit here on Memorial Day Weekend, I thought back on all the changes over the past year. I have a new ministry assign-ment, a new church staff, a new home, and new friends. I have spent the past year getting to know each of you and getting to know our church. When the coronavirus pandemic began, even my old Sonata started coughing and spewing. After experiencing engine failure, I had to trade in my old car for a new one. Somehow that felt illustrative of what God has been doing in my life this past year on a broader scale. God has been changing out the “old” and replacing it with the “new”. As we move towards the summer, I look forward to all the new things that God has in store for us as a church family. Pentecost celebrates the fresh movement of the Holy Spirit among us. There’s no need for worry or anxiety. God is faithful. We can trust the leading of the Holy Spirit to guide us to a brighter future. During this time of interruption, let’s take God’s hand and walk together patiently to see what God will teach us. And He who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new…” (Rev. 21:5).
Peace and Blessings,
Hello Church Family!
As many of you know, Graduate Sunday is coming up on June 7th. Our graduates this year are Connor Woodard, Brendan Outlaw, Abby Pleasant, Jennifer Sieredzki and Rebecca Jenkins. Due to the current situation with the pandemic, our graduates will have an in-home luncheon provided by our youth instead of a fellowship hall luncheon. Every year we typically set up gift tables for you all to drop off a gift to our graduates. Since we cannot do that this year, we ask that you either drop your gift off by the church office or send it directly to their address listed below. Unfortunately, these are the only graduates addresses I have so please drop Jennifer’s gift by the church office. Thanks! – Jill
Brendan Outlaw: 724 Lightfoot Drive, Clayton, NC 27520
Connor Woodard: 2310 Steel Bridge Road, Clayton, NC 27520
Abby Pleasant: 349 Broadmoor Way, Clayton, NC 27520
Rebecca Jenkins 8731 US 70 BUS HWY W, Clayton, NC 27520
