School FundingSince FY 09 State Support of Public

Education has declined by 860 Million Dollars.

Per Pupil Spending Level as the Minimum Guarantee by Law—$6119 per pupil spending---- State currently paying $5734.

EFAB— recommendation $8672

What does this mean?2/3 of all school districts are currently

deficit spending. Drawing upon their ‘reserves’

US Government Sequestration--- Starting in August will impact Low

Income/Free-Reduced Lunch and IDEA Funds.

Compounding problem? 50% of IL Students are now classified as ‘Low Income’

Since FY 2009◦6,400 + School Positions have been eliminated

across the state.◦Leads to an increase in class size.◦Illinois Pension Crisis◦Illinois Spending/Revenue Crisis

ISBE proposes to increase funding for Elementary and Secondary Education by $874 Million.

That would take us back to FY 2009 Levels. Will that happen? What do you think?

CORE Is Math/ELACORE is technology driven…..tests on

Computers.At the same time GED Test ‘outsourced’ There will be a new GED Test coming in 2014. The current version

of the GED Test will expire at the end of 2013. If a person has started, but not successfully completed all portions of the GED test by the end of 2013, the scores will become invalid and the person will need to retake all sections of the new test (online). Per the State of Illinois, the GED testing fee will increase to $130 (was $10 to $35 to $50 to $130) with the new test in 2014.
