A Mother’s Day Filled With Love - From Fr. Craig On this Mother’s Day, I want to extend my prayers and best wishes to all mothers for a day filled with love. A mother’s love for her children and family plays an indispensable role in our lives. Today is a day to offer our gratitude for the love our mothers give us from the time of our birth through all the years of our lives. A mother can never be thanked or appreciated enough for all she does. I love my own mother, Alda Jean Lusk, dearly. During my tenure in Marshall, many of you have befriended her with prayers, cards and visits, and for this I am most grateful. Since I cannot be with my mother for face-to-face visits right now, I have found creative ways over the past few weeks to let her know how much I love and care for her. This has included “socially distant” visits outside her nursing home window, speaking to her over the phone, and sending her notes. I know that many of you find yourselves in similar situations with elderly parents in nursing homes, and family members in distant places that you long to see.

On this Mother’s Day, I encourage you to find ways to express love and appreciation for maternal and spiritual mothers in your life. My mom was married to my dear dad, Wayne, for over fifty-two years, and I have always been enormously proud of her. My mother is more that ‘just mom;’ I consider her a friend too. The following poem says it all:

Mother...

You filled my days with rainbow lights, fairy tales and sweet dream nights. A kiss to wipe away my tears, gingerbread to ease my fears.

You gave the gift of life to me, and then in love, you set me free. I thank you for your tender care, or deep warm hugs and being there.

I hope that when you think of me, A part of you, you will always see.
